Chapter 13
Kampen om Oslo
With the Allies invasion of Norway have commenced, the Danish Army have made a quick plan to Attack Oslo and take the air field there, so the Allies can get air supremacy in Norway. The Plan is now being set in Motion but it will take some time before the Danish Forces are ready.
The Airfield just North of Oslo is the only airfield large enough to support warplanes in Norway.
A liberation of Norway will make the Danes less isolated and give Denmark the possibility to Send forces to other fronts, so the Danes can finally contribute to the war effort. The Invasion is Risky, but Denmark have enough forces to assist with the liberation of Norway. The time have finally come, after almost 4 years of war, the first Danish offensive in the war. To liberate their brothers from German oppression. The plan is know as "operation Broders hånd" (Brothers Hand)
Operation Broders hånd.
Area of operation = Southern Norway around Oslo.
Objective = Capture the city of Oslo and take over the airfield North of Oslo, then defend the position untill Allies forces reaches the Area.
Danish Forces = 3 Danish
German Forces = Unknown.
The 11th of October 1942: The operation is being executed, The Danish surface navy will escort the Danish forces from Copenhagen to Oslo, it is unknown how well the Area is Defended. The Order was executed at 3:00
The Norwegian theatre of war, the Allies have committed a significant amount of forces to the Front.
The 12th of October 1942: Danish forces have begun the Attack on Oslo, the area is heavily fortified but the Germans are not that well organised, the Danish forces are assisted by the Danish air force and the Danish Navy. The Germans have no planes or assistance from the sea.
The Danish army is not designed for a naval invasion, let alone Such a well fortified position. The Battle ended in a failure. But it did diverted 2 German Division in order to repel the Attack.
The 15th of November 1942: Operation Broders hånd was a failure, leaving many dead Danes, but a large portion of the Army managed to retreat.
The first real battle between the Danish and German army, fought in the Capital of Norway almost 4 years after the start of the war, one of the more weird historical facts of the second world war. It ended in a major German victory.
The 9th of November 1942: The Danes makes the second attempt at liberating Norway, this time the Danish forces will land south-west and south-east of Oslo and attack from both Directions, secure the port and then take the Airfield. This is an all or northing plan, if it fails, the Danish army will lose 3 Divisions.
The Second attempt for Liberating Oslo. With a larger force at their disposal
The 12th of November 1942: The Danish forces have now successfully landed on the Coast of Southern Norway and are hastily advancing to the Norwegian Capital.
It seems that the Germans did not think the Danes would dare to invade Oslo, a very strategic port in Norway is undefended.
The 14th of November 1942: The German army made a fast redeployment to Oslo in order to Defend it, thus starting the Second battle for Oslo. The Germans had the Advantage, so the Danish forces suffered a lot of casualties.
The Danish army is running out of supplies, but the Germans have no organisation
The 18th of November 1942: Oslo have been taken by Danish Forces, but at a cost of heavy Casualties compared to the Germans, a strategic victory for the Danish army. The Danish forces though like fanatics, thanks to the industrination of the DP (I used Force attack in order to secure the city)
The Danes have payed a heavy price in order to Liberate the Norwegian capital. But it was a success, proving that the Danish army where willing to make sacrifices in order to secure their opjectives.
The 21th of November 1942: Denmark have secured all objectives of Operation Broders Hånd, now they only need to Defends until Allied forces can arrive.
The Danish army have achived its first victory. With a large Allied army in western Norway, surely the Allies will exploit the fact the Danish army is Distracting a significant portion of the German army in Norway.
The 26th of November 1942: The Danish forces have been pushed back, the Danish and Norwegian "Allies" did not attack when the Germans where attacked
The whole Operation costed 9.600 Danish soldiers, due to the fact the Allies did not push further when Denmark captured Oslo, gave the Danes and to a lesser extend the Norwegians a bitternes to the Allies. So many dead Danish soldiers, died defending Oslo and the whole city was devastated for nothing.
The Germans still control Oslo and the Norwegian front have become evoled into some trecnh Warfare.
