I know that most of you despises Karlinges and I admit that border gore isn't a nice thing...however, my intention is, if not to cancel, at least to reduce it. My AAR is based on Louis IV, one of the last of Karlings.
I tried my best in order to give to traits life and create a personality. I also love the little Louis because he has a difficult job ahead and, being a diligent person, I love jobs.
Also I made a fast "three scenes" presentation, in order to present the characters so I am sorry if it seems very "drafty".

“Mother…” Louis looked at his mother, who gave him a sweet smile: he looked so much as his father, with his curly red hair and the thoughtful sight “How can I become a good king like my father?”

“Oh, sweet Luis,...your father was a good and just person, but most important he was someone who had a strong faith in God.”

“Then why he got betrayed…? It was like with Jesus Christ?” Louis looked sad “Jesus didn’t love him?”

The woman hugged the son and then sat with him on a bench, in the garden

“Jesus got betrayed, my love. Jesus was a good person, but not everyone is…”
“So we must punish bad people!” raised up Louis “and we must punish all those who rebel and can hurt again Jesus, as...as...those black moors in Guascony!”

Eadgifu chuckled benevolently and caressed his son’s hair “But most important, my love, you must always behave with kindness and humility, and do to others as they do to you”

“I’ll be a good christian, I promise, mother!” smiled the child

The day after, it was the first meeting with the council. He first had the demands of become a councilor examined. Everything went well...until they bumped in Hugues Capet.

Louis was scared by that bald and aggressive man, who always bragged how he was older than him and always gave him lectures about government.

So he was eager to allow him in the council.

Only, there seemed to not be any place for him. He got removed by Eadgifu, who stated clearly “In this council we not measure words but facts” and so he was replaced by the meeker Raymond.

Louis got scared when Hugues said, with anger “I will not loose my calm...but God will judge you all. Remember what you did to me…”. Then stormed out in a rage.

This memories haunted Louis when he got crowned. For a moment rage wrinkled his brows and fear made his face pale...but it was just a moment. He started to say an old verse from the Holy Bible about wrath and fear...and he calmed down. He turned around and the nobles shouted “LONG LIVE THE KING!”

I've marked this thread to watch, particularly since by coincidence I've also got a Karling AAR up right now. Louis is... an interesting choice and it's an interesting start date. Look forward to seeing how it plays out!

Ah, a Karling AAR - excellent! Make that house great again!

Interesting start.

Is a Karling-Capet feud coming soon?

Interesting start.

Is a Karling-Capet feud coming soon?

Thankies ^^

I already played the next part (as well as for the other two on EUIV and CKII). I can't assure that I'll publish them soon because I have my dissertation (In Italy, at the end of both our three year and our bachelor degree, we have to write and present an essay to a group of teachers) on Tuesday, so I may reserve more time to it than to the rest ^^'

However I can tell you that things took me by surprise. I won't spoiler more ;)

Hi! After my dissertation (96/110, a fair grade), here I'm back ^^ I am happy for who spent some time reading my nugae and I hope this second chapter will be liked as well

“Louis?” asked Richeut while her husband was reading the letters. The woman was an ivory skinned dark lady, not beautiful but attentive and decisive, something that Louis found well-balancing her tendency to be paranoid and avid.

“I came here for help you” she sat and looked at Louis so diligently that him couldn’t help but lend her a letter. “Here, you can tell me what you think…” he whispered in a gentle way.

After few moments, Richeut dropped the scroll and sighted at it in awe. Her silence was so perceivable that Louis couldn’t ignore it.
“Richeut!” he looked at her surprised “What on earth..”
“A Scottish noble came to your city! Without forewarning! Now he did think that we are louts and that’s why he acted this way!” she stood up shaking “now we MUST tell it to the king, so we can also excuse about our loutness…”
“But he’s my mother’s husband, he knows that I’m...if anything, a courteous person.”

“He may...but what about the noble? What if your mother fails to give the king a boy and the noble rises and…”
“As for it, m’lady…” Hugues Capet came in the throne room “When are we going to rejoice for our king’s heir? I’m glad to offer the solution for it”

“What do you want, Count Capet?” she snarled against him

“Simply holding a suggestion.” he threw the parchment on the table and Louis grabbed it

“A strongly recommended suggestion, indeed. Me and the other powerful vassals, who signed the parchment, desires your approbation for the gavelkind succession.”
“What is your interest in it?” whispered with disdain Richeut “You want to kill me or our...son?”

“Or even the king” Hugues grinned “But don’t worry m’lady...I would never kill him. I simply desire to relieve our liege lowering his troubles for the future. With the gavelkind succession, our vassals would become more in the future, that’s true, but this will empower us more, incentivizing the burocracy and the empower of faitful vassals, which are the same who signed the scroll”.

“No”

Hugues looked astonished “What did you say, m’liege?”

“No.” Louis looked at him “if I desire to be king, I’d have to listen to you, this way. And at my death, my reign will be shattered and in the hands of the first adventurer who’d shake the spear more”.

“Is this your last world?”

“Yes”

“Then war it is”

Hugues turned around and exited, boldly.

Richeut ran at Louis side, hugging him scared. Louis whispered “I just...needed to do it”.

The war proved Hugues right, however. The disorganization of the French vassals and Hugues superiority in levies made the whole war not much more than a train.

Louis was also unable to focus: another letter from his stepfather implied that another french noble was unworthy of his role, insulting the Scots as zoophiles and incestuous. Naturally the words were a bit ruder and the king itself provided to erase the most insults.

Richeut trembled hearing him. What would he do if…

But she had no time to worry.

On the day of the behading of the Holy Martyr John the Baptizer, Louis came to her and whispered “Goodbye my wife. I’ll fight the damned danes and no one would laugh at me!”.

When he went out the room, Richeut kneed and prayed “Holy virgin Ursula, blessed by thousand companions, and holy virgin Mary, our lady of the heaven...Grant victory and a heir to Louis and I’ll give to one a church and to the other one, the name of my sons...if I have one...”

Well, the Capets are dealt with, at least...

Well, Hugues is still alive and won. Louis is damn angry. I can't blame him ^^'

Thank heaven now I downloaded all the DLCs so I may hope in a pestilence...

I still want to get familiar with the tide of DLCs so the next chapter will take longer.
Just as long as the pest doesn't kill your characters. ;)

Great work on the Capet/Karling stuff! Looking forward to seeing more:_
