Interest in a Holiday-Time Cocktail Hour

With COVID dragging on and the dark winter approaching, I was wondering if folks would be interested in a virtual Holiday get-together on a site like zoom, which allows for quick/easy voice and video chat. I was thinking on a Saturday or Sunday close to the holidays at 2:00pm/14:00 EST which would make it afternoon for the US and evening for Europe. Folks would be encouraged to bring a beverage of their choosing, whether a martini or a hot chocolate and to enjoy some company for two hours or so?

Thoughts?

I was just talking about this with several people. Sounds like a swell idea if it can be made to work?

Yeah, the idea would be to use a system that allows moderation (e.g. kicking members who aren't behaving) and password protection (and send out the passwords day-of) to prevent bombing.

Plenty to talk about this year. Lots of long runners ending. Lots of new stuff coming from unexpected places (don't think anyone was expecting VIcky 2 to roar back into life like that, and in a less dramatic sense, HOI4) and the more recent boom in ck3.

My University did a virtual freshers cocktail mixing event a few months ago that worked pretty well. So know it can be done, just that getting everyone on at the same time might be tricky. But certainly should be attempted.

I'd be interested. Though being on Pacific time, less inclined to bring an alcoholic drink.

The meeting will be invite-only, so can folks who are interested in showing up please DM me with an email? I will then set up a zoom meeting as host, unless there are strong objects to that, in which case I can look more into jitsi, which is much more secure (and personally, I think it's easier to use as a viewer, though I'm still trying to figure out host options).

Unfortunately I won't be available for the proposed cocktail hour and as most of you will have noted I have been rather absent from this part of the forums in recent months due to real life events, but I keep an eye out and will come back as soon as I get the time to do so. I hope it will be a nice moment for you all, maybe if it is a success more occasions could be planned?

As an update, I will be moving the meeting to jitsi because zoom limits free meetings to 40mintues and there doesn't appear to be a free trial option for me, which is disappointing. Regardless, you will get an email from me Saturday morning.

I am interested but with my work, it's probable I will not be free sunday evening. I will try. ;)
