My girlfriend and I have been trying for the past day to play Stellaris together. She has the GOG version and I'm using the Steam version. When I try to use the cross-store multiplayer setting from the launcher, I'm able to launch the game fine, but I'm unable to open the multiplayer at all without being met with a login prompt for my Paradox account. Putting my details in and pressing log in causes the button to grey out for a bit, but then I'm met with a prompt saying the login attempt timed out. When trying the normal Steam version, I do not have this issue, and being logged in on the launcher does not help.

I have tried waiting for a bit and trying again, restarting the game, restarting the PC, disabling my firewall, reinstalling the launcher, re-downloading the game, and resetting my account password, but none of these worked. Any ideas how I could fix this?

The normal Steam edition now uses the Nakama MP service, as does the GoG edition. Can you play MP with her without opting into the crossplay beta?

I'm not using the beta, I'm using the launcher cross-store multiplayer setting. I did try connecting without using said setting, though, and it didn't work either. The game never connected.

Do you both see the same game version and checksum in the MP lobby (NOT in the launcher)?

I can only guess that one or both of you are having a firewall get in the way.

Can you both please test with some third person, to see which of you two has the issue?

Hello,

I have exaclty the same problem. Do you have a solution ?
It's unlikely you do have the same problem cause, the game and its MP is different to 2 years ago. That's why we ask folks to start new threads, not re-open old ones.

Which edition do you have, and do your opponents have?
