In your game folder localisation folder you will see a file:
province_names

It can be opened as a spreadsheet to find specific information.

Be careful with it. You might want to first make a backup and then work with the backup.

PROV14126;Nettiling;Nettiling;Nettiling;;Nettiling;;;;;;;;;x
is the last entry meaning over 14K provinces.

I don't know if this is what you asked for, but if you hover the mouse over a province you'll see the province name and its #

hrm. at least in SF.

Thanks for the immediate answers. I had the problem, that some provinces in the game (i.e. Swietochlowice) have other province names than in the province folders, so it was a little bit difficult to find them in the folders... But i found a tool for editing HoI3, the HoI3 Editor. Using this tool it was very easy to modify the provinces because they where listened by their in-game names.

I updated from Semper Fi to Their Finest Hour and my save game has some provinces that are greyed out. I can not move into those provinces as it says the infrastructure is too low. I can not build in them either and they don't even have 1 infrastructure. Would editing the save game with that province's number fix things and what would I fix please?

If you're trying to find provinces in-game, use 'tdbg' in the command menu (accessed by ~ on they keyboard in-game)

I was having a similar problem. In HOI III, I'm at war with britain and am relatively close to winning (79%) How do i declare a wargoal to obtain all of India as my own province?

India has no aquirable region sadly.

when in game type in tbdg in the command console

The wiki has some alternative commands to open the console (varies by keyboard, evidently), but the one that works for me is ` (key just above the Tab key, but not using shift, which makes a ~):
  • "~"
  • "Shift + 3"
  • "ALT + 21" on the numeric keypad.
  • "ALT Gr + 0" on the numeric keypad.

New problem. The file province_names.csv gives the number for the province, but when I got to the history\provinces\soviet there's no province of that number. For instance, Kotikovo number 7008 -- the numbers jump from 7006 to 7018

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the wiki... I don't think anyone maintains it.

New question, some of the file names are like (making this one up): 2287 - PROV2287. If I can figure out the name of that province, can I I put it into the file name and the mod/game still work?

Seems to have worked; PROV11358 = Vilyuisk. So I have one file name fixed so far!
