Hello to all of you! I'm Jolanta, QA Lead for Victoria 3, and today I'm going to talk about an unavoidable reality of launching a complex new game: bugs.

Ever since our (very exciting!) launch 48 hours ago, we have been hard at work cataloging and addressing some of the issues you've discovered, big and small. What follows is a list of some issues that you can anticipate will be fixed in upcoming patches, the first of which you can expect sometime next week. Where applicable I have also added information about short-term workarounds you can employ until the bug has been patched.

We are also planning to share a roadmap with you next week, so you can take a sneak peek into upcoming game updates. Stay tuned!

Known Bugs:

  1. In some user configurations, the Paradox Launcher might fail to parse the settings file properly, making it impossible to change the language and other settings through the launcher.
Most common solution: Uninstall all instances of the Paradox Launcher and run the game again.
More information can be found in this dedicated post: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/launcher-issues-troubleshooting.1550846/
On Windows 10 OS it can be done via “Add or Remove Programs” utility.
    KI_1.png
  2. Game map is black when starting the game.
Workaround: Ensure you don't have a controller plugged in while starting or playing the game. The controller may freely rotate the camera in a direction where no graphics exist.
  3. If the player participates in multiple wars at the same time, generals might prematurely abandon fronts and return to their HQs once one of the wars ends.
Workaround: Check up on your Generals after you sign a peace treaty in one war while still involved in another.
  4. The game could crash if the player hovers the mouse cursor over Sell Orders after having a different country join their market.
Workaround: After a country joins your market, run the game for at least a week of in-game time before digging into data in the Market panel.
  5. Out-of-sync errors when attempting to hotjoin a multiplayer game already in progress.
Workaround: Try again! If this happens to you repeatedly, have the host save and rehost the game, ensuring everyone who wants to play is present in the lobby before starting the session.
  6. Travel time can be bypassed by issuing additional orders targeting the same Front.
Workaround: Wait until the General has arrived at the Front before changing the order. Establish a house rule not to do this in multiplayer until fixed (soon!).
  7. Revolutions create empty country entries in several map lists (Markets, Global GDP, Cultures Overview and more).
As long as you don't try to interact with these entries they won't cause anything but cosmetic harm.
    KI_2.png
  8. It might be possible to use the Investment Pool to construct any privately-owned building regardless of Economic System law.
We are aware of this issue, it will be fixed soon!
  9. Some biomes don't emit ambient sound.
The cause of this issue has been found and your soundscape will soon be more impressive!
  10. Successful secessions may retain their "civil war" status and name after the war, becoming untargetable for further Diplomatic Plays.
We have this on our radars!
  11. Troops with low Morale may join battles despite there being plenty of troops with high Morale.
Workaround: In particularly difficult wars you could set your Front to full defense until your troops have regained Morale, before switching back to Advance.
  12. American Civil War can be easily avoided, and if it triggers, the Union may contain slave states and vice versa.
While civil wars and state selection for revolutionary countries are dynamically determined based on political support and radicalism, and may take different forms in different playthroughs, this particular outcome is not intended and will be addressed.
  13. Debt Enslavement and Slave Trade is too rapid.
A number of economic and setup-related factors conspire to make it so more Pops are enslaved and moved around the world than intended. This will be addressed shortly.
  14. Players starting as Peru could become Puppeted without any say shortly after game start.
Workaround: Until we can make sure that Peruvian independence is respected, you can run the game as another country for a few years and then switch over to Peru from the game menu.
  15. When a revolution starts in a Subject country, the Overlord country gets the option to switch sides and play as the revolution.
Workaround: If you accidentally do this, you can manually switch the country you're playing as from the game menu.
  16. Newborn Rulers and Heirs may clip through their clothes. Japanese Shogunate Heirs do not wear clothes at all.
Presence of unintentional Adamites in Victoria 3 is not intended, they will leave the game soon.
  17. Expedition Leaders may remain busy after the Expedition ends.
Workarounds: send the commander on another expedition. And if you do several expeditions, sending the same commander on them whenever possible reduces the risk of this happening.
  18. Sometimes, expeditions may fail immediately in Africa.
Workaround: to prevent this from happening, when you get the event “An Insolvent Business” during an expedition, don’t select the first option.
  19. Budget balance chart goes out of bounds after large shifts in Budget calculation
Workaround: We will look into this. In the meantime these chart spikes will correct over time.

To sum up, these known issues are in progress and we are constantly scouting our communities for issues you raise. We are doing our best to fix them in the shortest amount of time so you can enjoy your playthroughs without any concerns.

If you notice anything else and have some spare time to spend submitting the issue you found in the game, please use our forum bug reporting page where you could easily file it using the link here.

This is not a complete list of known issues! If a bug you're experiencing isn't listed here, we may still be aware and working on it, especially if you have already submitted it on the bug reporting page.

Thank you for having time to read through and making our game better!

/Jolanta

Any update on the issue of Macs crashing when trying to start a game after selecting a country? It is a game-breaking bug, that entirely prevents play, so I need to know whether to wait it out or get a refund while I can and try again in a few months.

I believe there's a bug in my games, where the societal resistance to political change is close to non-existant, which by midgame allows the player to turn literally any country into a utopia law-wise, which in turn makes AI barely competitive against the player. Will this be addressed?

I've played it for over 30 hours since its release, and although there are some parts I'm not used to and some bugs, it's a great PC game.

It's not a bug, but if the development team has time, I'd like to see Eastern name order implemented. For those who play in european languages, it may not feel like it, but when we play in a Japanese or Chinese localization and see an East Asian character whose first name and last name are reversed, it feels strange for somebody.

Great structured after sales response to iron out those bugs. When thinking about the game design to improve it, it's a daunting task.

When played yesterday as a micro nation siak, i actually found the experience to play it interesting as some important things happened; war is expensive, realistic pace of expansion (i needed ports for export). The dutch intervened when i waged for second time (lost first, paid war reparations) a war against a neigbour i would like to know why they intervened (despite me having improved relations with them prior).

When they intervened i got wiped quickly of the map, as they came with enormous amount of batallions. Which is probably unrealistic as it is to much,
i had no chance to do any guerilla fighting or hold out longer by help of stockpiles or other costly defence measures. Also when playing russia i experienced how difficult it is to work with current front system, i helped ottoman empire early on against egypt, after the war ottoman empire relations stayed low (despite improving strange ai behaviour). Also unlocking potential in ural region took long (expand infrastructure options look sophisticated but miss an ancient aspect; road building). When revolts came things unclear where in sahkhalin which i colonised.

A historian needs to be consulted,
to once and for all get clarity if aroundn vic period it s realistic to leave your country with all forces to go fight somewhere else, or a percentage is only possible.
Some other things about diplo need to be looked into as ability to create spheres of influence etc. and more diplomat also assymetric options, sabotage, etc. influence or grow socialists in other country etc. but still it should not be overdone but barebly attainable or even not attainable, like playing joseon in vic2 difficult but realistic expansion options.
Problems arised in the war system with batallion allocation and front system (to chaotic). Also a point considering to improve this game is the behaviour our approach towards capitalists and farmers (both need to experience more organic self steered growth with some guidance and slight guidance of player), this is also the case with trade as trade always happened in some form between island nations (eu4). If trade happens larger show tonnage and limitation of capacity and reach of transport

To improve war system after consulting a historian eg. Mr. Richard Overy. Shape it that AI automatically defends and attacks (manual no ai actions can be offered as well)or fulfills objective, but you give high command the order what to do, gives the general staff tech some more meaning in the tech tree.

Missing is search function in tech tree (to search for technology), interest mechanic revisited, abandoning the no stockpile concept/ plan economy concept (unless eg. you turn into socialist communist country).

Gui menu changes and better market overviews are needed, its contra productive not being able to see also easily if a more profitable trade opportunity arises for export.
The trade overview with tariffs adjustment is mega confusing. Also politics and than changing laws is not that easy in getting to know what you are getting (eg. move towards socialism), especially reform government simply not that easy despite looking easy and simplified. This connection politics with research shows fundamental decoupling and altering gameplay changes need to be made. Re-introduction of westernisation.
Than an overall performance improvement for smoother mid end game ticker pace, finally there is a heap of work to flavor more all those nations and than re-balance everything. I would appreciate if like in ck3 a council exists which advises you on eg. there is no port or what to do, at least a better state overview - regional report to be asked with better statistics.

In all this is a mega daunting task..
Probably significant change to the better if prioritised around same time next year. In case super crunch this winter.

will you also fix problem with AVX? Many users have the same issue: CPU without AVX support, not able to run Vic3. It will be great to know if we can expect fix or not, so we can ask for money refund or wait

Would love to hear about this one as well. This bug effectively makes the game a useless purchase.

@Wizzington any news on a) warfare and b) the economic game loop?

a) is quite obvious by now, i think.

but b), as you may have noticed in the forum, is about the simplistic economic game loop of vic3. although we know that vic3 has a deep and complex economy system in the background (pops, pop demands, etc.), the actual economic game loop or player experience is shallow and simple: all you do is going to the trade tab, ordering new buildings, hoping that your debt limit is high enough, and then you can build almost anything (with a few penalities though)... and after a few decades my australian gdp was higher than uk's. i tried the same with sokoto where it becomes even more embarrassing. workforce is no real concern, right? it is merely a penalty, and will do okay over time anyway. lack of resources? merely a penalty. not a problem, if you grow fast enough. pop demands? nobody cares, because pops will love you if your gdp grows fast enough.

what i'm trying to say is that as an economic building game, in terms of the actual player game loop -- vic3 is too simple. there is not much to do in terms of actual economic gameplay. even hoi4 and stellaris have more to do, although we know that vic3 is under the hood more complex. not to mention all the other economy building games out there that have a much more fun and satisfying economic player game loop.

Are there any plans in fixing AI? There are already at least one mod that seems to greatly improve it (but still not fixing entirely). I mean USA unable to beat Mexico in almost every game, very weak UK etc.
Also will there be any changes to building system? Currently we are stuck to planned economy regardless of modifiers. Again, there is mod fixing that but that's not the point.

Will there be a possibility to manually draw frontlines? Currently in case of bigger wars there are small frontlines popping up here and there and almost every time AI exploits that.

All in all it's not so buggy, there wasn't CTD in 15h of game.

Hey, I just want to point out that I found a 18 GBs error.log in my logs folder. I'm sure that was unintended?

Edit: FYI, this log is a 179'424'068 lines long repetition of the following message:
Code:
[10:21:08][jomini_script_system.cpp:262]: Script system error!
Error: owns_entire_state_region trigger [ Wrong scope for trigger: state, expected country ]
  Script location: file: common/scripted_triggers; european_colonies_north_africa line: 9 file: common/achievements/standard_achievments.txt line: 402

Only the number after "line:" changes.

So Adamites are not a thing in Vic 3. So what is this option used for?

Can we actually get an acknowledgment that this is being looked into? You're purposefully ignoring MAC users' comments while responding to other requests and you did not even include this problem in the list above.
