Introduction
Welcome, to my very first AAR Project. I have been a long-time lurker that has loved reading AAR projects but never being able to find a story interesting enough from my own campaigns that were interesting enough to share. But with how off the rails this story got, I decided I would begin posting it, and editing it down to make an interesting narrative out of it. Hoping that if the converter is nice to me I can continue it into Europa Universalis. Hopefully, the story will be interesting enough for all of you.

Major Disclaimer
I am in no way an expert on the Zoroastrian Faith and am open to criticism on how I interpret and understand the doctrine of Zoroastrianism. I am happy to learn more upon this fascinating faith I have just recently learned about. Please educate me more about its history and doctrine in the replies, if minor discrepancies exist, please excuse it due to alternate history.
Edit-Also let me know about my writing style, what works and what does not, it is my first AAR after all

Zoroastrian Poland sounds very interesting...

Pre History
Very little if anything, is known about the period before the ascension of King Joseph the 2nd. It is theorized that the Slavic People had come from the Carpathian Mountains and migrated throughout Eastern Europe. But an old folk story better describes what happened. Once 3 brothers were united under one roof. One day they decided to go on a hunt in a competition to decide who would become head of the house. The first brother would roam far to the East and hunt down a bear and would return to the house believing that he had found the best prey. Another brother would roam far to the South and would hunt down a lion and would return to the house believing that he had hunted the best animal. The final brother would head west and hunt down an eagle and believing that his animal was best would return to the house believing his animal was the best. Within the cabin, all three could not decide upon whose animal was best in their anger, would denounce the others and return to the lands where they had to hunt their animals and live there, despising the others. Our story will begin with the descendant of the brother who hunted the eagle and who would eventually end up in the land now known as Poland.

The Slavic Kings
The Origins of House Piast
The House of Piast was descended from the brother who went west. He found people within this area of land where he had hunted his eagle. He is blessed and strong and would be accepted by the people and named their king. Upon the great founder's death, he would be buried under a hill and return when the people he had led were in danger.

King Jozef the 1st 891-905
portrait-of-polish-king-leszek-czarny-1241-1288-poland-ABJXRB.jpg
"He started as a minor tribal leader on the edge of the kingdom of Sorbia, but through his strength, he took the Kingdom through rite of conquest.-Book of the Kings of Poland
For a long time, the Piast Dynasty was content to be able to rule over the small amounts of land within their tribal area. The father of King Jozef was content to be able to lead over his minor amounts of land, but King Jozef was different than his father, for he had a greater ambition. He unliked his father was exceptionally impatient, and was a man trained for war with a large appetite. He could best be described as the image of the perfect Polish soldier. He would lead the Piast Dynasty in conquering the lands of the Kings of Sorbia, casting the Kings off their thrones and sitting upon them while consuming large amounts of wine. With his new strength of arms, he would conquer other nearby tribal lords, but as long as they submitted, he allowed those tribal lords to continue to govern the people themselves. According to one legend, he would clash in a duel of honor against the founder of the Rurik dynasty, Helgi the Seer, in a duel that was considered a draw at the time. The two would become fast friends at the after-party of the duel. They would decide to marry two members of their family that would never have a chance to inherit their kingdoms. They would betroth Fevoronia Rurikid, the 3rd daughter of Helgi the Seer, and on the Piast side, they would betroth the grandson of Jozef. While Jozef the 1st was a great warrior, he did have one blind spot, which was on the issue of succession. His will was poorly worded such that the court would be divided into factions supporting the first son and second son. The case of succession could only be decided by war.

King Jozef the 2nd "The Dragon" 905-943
Boleslav the Brave.jpg

"He brought us from being a minor backwater kingdom into one of the preeminent powers within the Slavic world. The most shocking part was that he was never meant to take the throne.....Book of the Kings of Poland

The war for the throne of Poland would begin as soon as the body of Jozef the 1st body was cold. The nobles of the court had split over who should succeed him. The lords in the kingdom's west would support the 1st born son Miloz, while the lords in the east would end up supporting Jozef the 2nd. The war would be swift, Jozef the 2nd; while not as skilled as his brother with the blade, he had something more substantial: his silver tongue. He was able to acquire support from the most vital house within the Realm besides the Piast, the house of Wislan warriors of the east. These battle-hardened warriors had trained their swords, engaging in border skirmishes against the Kievan-Rus Empire. The civil war was quickly finished within a year. But Josef the 2nd would perform something shocking at the end of the civil war; he would not murder his brother's bloodline, instead granting them an estate to rule despite their continual threat to his throne. He would then seek to further expand the Realm into the north toward the Baltics and south into the land of Bohemia. He would nearly double the Realm's size during his reign through a mixture of diplomacy and his ability to wield the house of Wislan. Whatever would not bend the knee through diplomacy would face his greatest warriors through steel and blood. Another significant development concerning his heir and his wife would drastically change the region forever.

One question why "Jozef"? "Jozef" is the name of semitic origin i.e jewish, sonit was brought to Poland by christianity :)
It was just the name generated by the game. Perhaps we could say the Old Kings were debating converting to Judaism, due to the power of the Khazaria at the start of the game. I was still worshipping Perun at this time.

In the meantime, time to start typing up the turning point and the beginning of where the timeline went wild.

Jozeph was a great king, but he didn't think much about succession. Let's hope that that doesn't become a recurring problem...

What happened with Russia? Did you ever ally?

When will Poland convert to Zoroastrianism? Near the AAR's beginning? In the middle?

The Era of Conversion 948-1000
Zoraster.jpg
This period was and is one of the most defining moments of Eastern Europe and the realms of both Poland and Kievan Rus. This period would be dominated by 2 figures representing the changes of the period.

The Bearer of the Word Aram
sanjan_paziresh.jpg

Historians question how a Persian Priest of Zoroastrianism would end up in this area of the world during this period. The Jaharaghdid Dynasty was making its glorious rise against the Islamic Invaders in Persia. Perhaps the Shah at the time had the spare money to send out missionaries, or perhaps the legends are true. According to popular mythology, Aram would have a vision from Ahura Mazda; within it, he sees visions of a land of large grasslands and men wearing strange clothes; he then sees a vision of a map indicating where he must head. The final words that he hears from the word of Ahura Mazda are while it might be a long and difficult road, someday the Jaharaghdid dynasty will fall. We must bring others who shall be able to bring more Asha into the world, and through them, Druj shall be weakened. So Aram would heed the word of Ahura Mazda, taking his Gathas and traveling to the land known as Poland. His arrival was a shock to the court, his strange clothes and his very strange accent; while his words of faith struck many as hollow, he only had to inspire one man, one whose soul would be moved and change the destiny of Eastern Europe forever.

Tsar Josef the Great and Terrible 948-998
Terrible Tsar.jpg

Tsar Josef was a man who would have changed history due to his birth alone. He was in line to inherit the throne of Poland from his Piast family, and due to his mother inheriting the throne from Helgi, the Seer was blessed with the blood of the Dragon and the Blood of the Seer in his veins. He would inherit the throne of Poland and the throne of Kievan-Rus and Poland when his mother and father died. Historians whisper that when both his mother and father died in their beds from poisoning that he was the one who did it. Those whispers would be silenced at the time, but some would still believe in the modern day that he was the one who performed it due to what his rule would entail.
2022_10_28_2.png

Rough Historical Estimations of the land he inherited( :( I don't have a screenshot from when he first inherited)

It was during the 3rd year after his ascension would he hear of the man known as Aram; some historical records claim that he was going to be brought to court as a royal jester, and others claim that the Tsar had visions and was seeking someone who can interpret them, either way through a twist of fate Aram would be brought to court. They would converse long and hard in the court, debating this and that, both feeling out the other when the Tsar would invite Aram into his court and offer food, title, and position to Aram. A couple of months later, he would announce to the court, through much pomp and splendor, his conversion to the Zoroastrian faith. He would demand that all those loyal to him must convert and renew their vows to him. Those who would not convert would be deemed traitors and be fully purged. The lords of the east, largely in the Russian region of his kingdom, would bend the knee, convert to Zoroastrian and become staunch loyalists to the crown. But the lords of Poland would refuse their kingdom, and the focal point of this rebellion would be the house Wislan, swords of the kingdom of Poland. The tension in the kingdom over this unexpected conversion would continue to simmer until 954, with the attempted assassination of Tsar Josef. This assassination attempt would fail, but upon the discovery of the conspirators, the house of Wislan was among the plotters. The Tsar's attempt at imprisonment would fail, leading the swords of the kingdom and other major Dukes of the Kingdom of Poland to raise their banners in a civil war. The Russian Dukes would largely stay loyalist during this period, while the Dukes of Poland would attempt to overthrow the Tsar. The war was exceptionally long and bloody, but war would finally conclude with the battle of Sandiomez. Tsar Josef would lead the battle personally, being flanked by his new agents, the immortals. The battle would be exceptionally even until the Tsar sent out his immortals, who turned the battle to the side of the loyalists. Leading to the capture of House Wislan, Swords of the Crown, and the other traitor lords. The Tsar, unlike his predecessor, was brutal in his revenge; the heirs to the rebel lords would be forcibly taken to the capital and be educated in the religion of Zoroastrianism. The rebel lords would either bend the knee or face execution by burning. Most of the lords chose to bend their knees out of fear for their children's safety. But the lord of House Wislan fled to the Kingdom of Estonia, not caring what happened to his heir.

The Tsar would grow ever more paranoid and would task his Immortals with being the new swords of the kings, as well as becoming the blades in the night, killing the lords who would still refuse to convert. Their commander, Aram, would support the king through thin and high water. The king would also marry during this period of conversion. He would marry a princess of the Kingdom of Denmark to acquire a powerful alliance against the many discontent lords of the realm. Though she and her family would convert to Islam during this time of conversion, which would effectively end their relationship. The worst part was that she converted 2 of his 3 sons to Islam, and he, through all his pleading, could not convert them back. This would lead to issues of succession during the end of his reign.

In a drastic move, he would order the immortals to kill his wife and his two non-Zoroastrian sons. His wife would die due to an accident off of a balcony, and a mob of Zoroastrian Zealots would butcher his non-Zoroastrian sons. The only reason modern historians know that the King himself orchestrated these murders was due to a diary found in a hidden room within the Imperial Palace which was discovered in only recent times. In 998 Tsar Josef, the Great and Terrible died in his royal chambers, yelling at his lazy heir to shape up, in which his heart would fail him. His son would give his body the rites of sky burial, thus ending the age of Conversion. With the Ascension of Tsar Jaroslaw, exceptionally superstitious and nervous, with issues over theology and the massive amounts of land that are governed under his rule, will be he be able to hold the realm together?

For my fun, here is a religious map mode, pre-conversion and after the reign of Tsar Josef the Great

Oh Mazdayan so no marrying daughters or sisters? xd Honestly I think it's for the better. Denmark converting to Islam is also something unprecedented
Tbh I do have the tenet to have divine marriage but with how many bloody vassals I have the monarchy will prob never use it. I need somehow to keep some of the more powerful vassals loyal XD. The realm is to damn big to govern. Also I was shocked about its conversion to. It actually even comes into play later. I will likely do a state of the world update soon.

Jarloslaw the Inept 1000-1014
Drunk Monarch.jpg

His father always overshadowed Jarloslaw. He was not the warrior, diplomat, or reformer his father was. He did not even have to fight for the throne like his predecessors due to the zealots who killed his siblings. However, he did have to rule during a time of confusion. While the conversion of the realm under his father was quick and efficient, it led to major morale debates over if it was within the ideals of Ahura Mazda, the forceful conversion of others, and the killing in the name of the Ahura Mazda, was not within the ideals of following the path of Asha, but instead stunk of Druj. There would be major debates within the new fire temples established at the temple. There would also be increasing tensions between the Russian Nobles of the Realm and the Polish nobles of the realm. The Russian Nobles believed that supporting the Tsardom during the civil war should lead to them receiving greater privileges than the successors to the rebel Polish lords. While the Russian Nobles could not push against Tsar Jozef due to his competence and ruthlessness, it did not apply to his weak son. Many of the 2nd sons of noble lords were gathering under the banner of Yaroslava Pinesky and had begun to look for a way to push the realm to fight Finland, even if the Tsar did not have any desire to. The Catholic Kingdom of East Francia, under their King Meinhard, would begin to mobilize their troops at the border and gather the Knights Templar to their banner. The only thing keeping the realm together was the political marriages for himself and his sons and daughters arranged by his father. While all of these issues facing the realm were starting to appear, the Tsar would be found throwing lavish parties and consuming enormous amounts of ale.

Tutonic Knights.jpg

In 1008 these issues would come to a head when 18,000 German soldiers invaded the kingdom. At their head was Grandmaster Luitpole is known as the Dawnbringer to his men. When the Tsar heard the news, he laughed and quickly returned to his wine. This led to the Crown Princes of Domawuj (First Prince), Izislav (Second Prince), and Jaroslaw( Third Prince) to storm out of the capital, calling the bannermen to them, they would not lose their birthright; even if their father would not protect it. The Brothers were united in purpose and in loathing of their father. The East Francia army outnumbered the Bannermen, but they laid a cunning trap at the province of Dessau. Hoping to ambush the Germans as they were fording the Elbe river into Kievan lands. Despite the surprise, the Dawnbringer would rally his men in a charge against the Kievan-Polish armies; according to legend, the Dawnbringer would duel Jaroslaw the 3rd Prince, the Prince wielding a Great Axe and the Dawnbringer wielding a Great Sword; according to legend, the Dawnbring decapitated the head of Jaroslaw while Domawuj watched and could do nothing about it. The Dawnbringer would mount the Prince's head on a spear to weaken the resolve of the Kievan-Rus troops. The battle ended in a complete disaster, the Kievan-Rus armies shattered. With that, the armies of Kievan-Rus would have to completely abandon the Dutchy of Anhalt. The Germans and Dawnbringer would attempt to continue the conquest, but it was only due to House Powla, ordering the burning of all provisions within their dutchy was the Germans halted.
Wheat Burn.jpg

When Tsar Jarloslaw heard the news, he only asked for another barrel of wine. When the crown Princes returned and saw that the Tsar was continuing on with his indulgent ways, it took 5 guards to stop Prince Domawuj from attacking the Tsar with his sword. When the East Francia King Meginhard offered terms in 1013, Prince Domawuj wanted to cut out the eyes of the envoy. Still, the Tsar laughed and signed the terms, which were that East Francian would keep the land that they had occupied within the Dutchy of Anhalt and that Kievan-Rus would abandon all claims to it; it was also phrased in such a way that it declared the rest of Kievan Rus a shithole which was not worthy of invading. It took 5 guards to drag Prince Domawuj away from the meeting so the treaty could be signed. On that day, the Prince swore revenge upon the Christians and their false Gods and especially the Dawnbringer; he swore that even if he committed unpardonable sins, he would kill them all. He would stain his hands with large amounts of Druj to accomplish this. He would begin his plot immediately supported by his brother Izilsav.
121318-46-History-Russia-Ivan-Great-III-Medieval-Middle-Ages.jpg

In 1014, the plot would begin sooner than expected. According to legend, one of the common soldiers in the Immortals had gotten spooked and had asked a noble lord if the conspiracy against the Tsar had been discovered. However, this was one of the very few commanders who were not privy to the plot, and quickly moved to inform the Tsar, but before he could speak, he was swiftly cut down by Prince Domawuj in front of the Tsar's throne. The Immortals acting as the Tsar's guards, quickly pointed their axes at Tsar Jarloslav. As Prince began to deliver a speech that will be known across the history of the Kievan-Polish Empire.

"Oh dear Father, I am not going to kill you; you may have your ale and your parties; I am simply seizing the throne so you may continue to enjoy these comforts. You have failed as Tsar, Father, and servant of Ahura Mazda. You have allowed enemies of the faith to invade with complete disinterest, and you have caused great division within the Empire and have failed even to notice all this due to your drinking. In the name of Ahura Mazda, I unseat you from the throne." With that Tsar Jarloslav was forced off the throne, his crown forced off his head as Domawuj would receive both and take his seat upon his new throne. He was only accountable to Ahura Mazda for what he had done.

Tsar Domawuj The Avenger 1014-1045
stanislaw-i-leszczynski-1677-1766-oil-on-canvas-polish-school.jpg

Tsar Domawuj, was a warrior, man of faith, and tyrant. According to history, good times create weak men, while bad days create strong men, many fear what Domawuj would have been if he was born during bad days. His coronation was a rushed affair, not even seeking to bring all lords of the realm, instead, be only viewed by the Immortals. The holding of his court was similar there was no pomp or circumstance, but instead, it was much more like a military camp. His greatest interest lay with the now Mercenary group known as the Second Sons; as Yaroslava Pinesky would bend the knee to the Tsar, he would offer her a deal. While he would not force the noble families of the realm to split their land to ensure the second sons a chance for an inheritance, he offered to sponsor them to take new land. He offered the crown monetary support for the Second Sons to attempt to conquer the Finish Tribes to the North; whatever land they took was theirs to hold; they would just have to swear fealty to the Imperial Crown. Yaroslava was expecting the Band to be purged and was flabbergasted and would support the Tsar in his further political endeavors due to his support.

The most important meeting however was the one the Tsar held with his brother after the coronation, which would seek to destroy an internal opposition to the royal transition. Prince Izislav would form an opposition party to the Tsars rule, enabling the nobles who opposed his rule to be monitored and assassinated. The pact would be sworn upon the Gathas and the brothers would brand the prophet's symbol upon their skin. The brothers were united in soul and purpose.

death-of-king-mark-nc-wyeth.jpg

The Immortals would carry out their duty spectacularly, leaving the sign of Ahura Mazda branded upon the tounges of the traitors. Many noble houses of the realm would become extinct during this purge, including the famous House of Wislan. The Tsar, having secured his throne after his coup, would notice the internal stability of the Kingdom of Estonia, would send envoys to the nobles within Estonia's borders offering his support against the King but would receive more than what he bargained for when the Nobles would revolt in 1020 Proclaiming him the new King of Estonia. He had little desire for the crown, only wanting to cause issues within the neighboring still accepted the throne but began to plot the executions of the nobles who had put him there, for if they could be traitors once, they could surely be traitors again. Tsar Domawuj would also face major issues within the Fire Temples, refusing to support his reign due to the intense cruelty in his reign. The Priests would declare that his rule enabled Angra Mainyu to gain in strength due to his use of schemes and cruelty. While there was never any outright revolts during his reign, it would cause issues within the faith over if using Druj could end up bringing forth Asha.

However, within his diary, the proudest achievement he would have is the establishment of his spy networks within East Franica and the Nomad State of Deshti Quichaq. Within it, he had ears in the courts to ensure that the kingdom would never be surprise attacked again. He would use it for his revenge, in 1030 the Dawnbringer would be found in bed, his face entirely mutilated, and on his tongue would be branded the symbol of Angra-Mainyu. While an envoy from the East Francia Kingdom would be sent to question Kievan-Rus if they had anything to do with it, the King would deny it. One of his final acts as Emperor would be to declare war upon the Empire of Deshti-Quichaq, to acquire the Dutchy of Yesidan to grant to the Second Sons as a second base area for conquest. He would also attempt to use the campaign as a way to make his sons able to tolerate each other's presence. The Tsar was so focused on his enemies abroad and within he never paid any attention to the issues of succession, leading to a rift within his family and court regarding who would succeed him. Tsar Domawuj believed they would be united in both soul and body like his own relationship with his brother, but by the time he realized it was far too late. In the end, Tsar Domawuj would die before the war with Deshti-Quichaq could be settled, and the issue of succession could be determined.

Tsar Premyslaw 1045-1078
mat-blanchys-charadesignchallenge-09-tarotemperor.jpg

A Modern Day Interpretation of the King
Tsar Premyslaw's rage was well-known across the land; during his father's reign, he would rage across the steps, warring with the nomadic tribes. His battle tactics would greatly upset his brother Alexi the Giant, leading to the split. According to legend, Alexi the Giant would receive the news first and attempt to reach Kaliz (The Capital City) to be crowned Emperor before Premyslaw could receive the news. The Lords bordering the Baltic Sea would raise their banners to support Alexi the Giant's claim. However, Alexi had made a critical error, abandoning the war with Deshti Empire before it could be won, weakening his support with the main army. When Premyslaw heard the news of his brother's supposed coronation as Tsar, he allegedly broke the war room table in wrath. He came to terms with the Deshti Empire, offering lesser terms than his father's demands, offering to take only the land occupied. His eyes turned in anger towards his brother for daring to take his birthright. He would lead his army North Toward the Baltic Lords, engaging them in the Battle of Gdansk; in this battle, he would capture his brother and burn him alive. During this period of civil war, the Muslims led by Almusman of House Seljuk would wipe away the Zoroastrian Kingdom of the Jaharaghdid Dynasty, wiping away Zoroastrianism from the Holy Land. While the war for the Empire was swift and brutal, the time of trouble during this transition of power was not over.
Marc_Fishman_High_Sparrow.jpg

The Priests of the Fire Temples were done with the monarchy's excessive bloodlust and would revolt against Tsar Premyslaw in 1050. They declared the monarchy had become followers of Angra Mainyu, decrying the purges of the nobility, the kin slaying of the monarchy, and ignoring the fall of the Holy Land to the hated Muslims. They would stir hundreds of peasants against the monarchy and more than half of the immortals against the court. They would be led by a man known as the Secret Flame, for none knew his face. The Capital City of Kaliz and the Imperial Palace were almost taken by the zealous mobs, it was only due to the intervention of the loyalist elements of the Immortals would the mob be cowed. The loyalist armies would struggle with the revolutionaries for years, always searching for the Secret Flame but never finding him. An attempt in 1055 to lure him out would fail, and he would continue to spread revolution wherever he wandered.
_60786921_yourpaintings.jpg

In 1060 even after the revolution was declared to be put down, the crown would never find the Secret Flame. However, Tsar Premyslaw attempted to make peace with the faith in 1063 when he declared two of his sons would enter the fire temple and serve Ahura Mazda directly. His final son would be tutored by the Head Priest of the Fire Temple in Kaliz. Tsar Premyslaw hoped this would weaken the Fire Temples' wrath against the monarchy. In 1078, the Tsar died from food poisoning. Only time will tell if the succession will be peaceful.

Authors Note-Maybe one day there will be a peaceful transition of power XD. After the next update, I will do an update about the world, as well as one mini-update about something the readers would like to know more about within the Empire. Let me know what yall would want to know more about. We are about caught up to where I am now so expect many more screenshots to.

Tsar Premyslaw the 2nd, The Faithful 1078-1088
Zoroastrian-Fire-Temple.jpg
Tsars Premyslaw the 2nd was raised in the Fire Temple. He was educated by the Destaur of Kalisz, who considerably brought him up to worship Ahura Mazda. However, he came to the throne at the age of 50. He did not face civil war for the crown or any significant revolts. He could do very little to influence the realm significantly. He began construction of a new beautiful fire temple, one that was guided with gold. He attempted to mend the relationship between the church and the crown, which he had little influence on. He did not increase the power of the monarch or even weaken it. He ensured that his successor would not be challenged by forcing all of his other sons into the temple to ease tensions with the church. During his reign, under the surface, there would be continual issues within the church over doctrine. Debates over the nature of Druj and Asha, the relationship between priesthood and the monarchy, and whether Aram the Word Bearer was a prophet or a simple missionary. As well as debates over whether the Gathas was a book that could never be expanded or if it was a living book wherein new chapters could be written. Tsar Premyslaw the 2nd was ignorant of these debates happening behind closed doors and would believe that the relationship between the monarchy and the church was mended on his deathbed. He would die in his bed surrounded by his family.

Domawuj was radical.

These Tsars don't seem to be planning for their successions. I'm surprised that it's been this peaceful.

Jozef was a mighty man and king, and it's interesting that he also ruled Kiev.

What's your succession? Can Poland and Kiev split?
