Hello,

Operating systemUbuntu 22.10
CPURyzen 9 5950X
GPUNvidia GeForce 2070 SUPER
EditionSTEAM

I can start the game with no problems, but I get no sound in menu or in game. In settings, I see no sound related options as well (screenshot attached).
I have found out that forcing Proton Experimental through Steam does get me sound, but the game is not smooth and I cannot open Settings anymore (window freezes, until I click Esc a couple of times, alt-tab out and back in).

I've read that Ubuntu moved in 22.10 version from Pulse audio to Pipewire for audio. Could that affect the game?
Steam states Ubuntu as compatible..

Could you help me please?

Same problem here (though on a Debian Unstable). This is the content of the game.log file:

I'm using Pipewire 0.3.59-1. Other software I tried does not have this sound issue.

Is there any other information you need to better debug this problem?

Please not that I'm running the `pipewire-pulse` daemon, so pipewire should be fully compatible to software expecting to find a pulseaudio daemon running.

For me the sound works correctly on kubuntu 22.04. I guess I delay updating to 22.10 a little longer.
Victoria 3 uses the fmod audio library to play its sounds/music. I found this pipewire issue which describes similar problems with some other games which use fmod. The comments offer three possible solutions:
  1. set the environment variable FMOD_ALSA_DEVICE to the alsa device which pipewire emulates. If I see it correctly you would need the pipewire-alsa package for this
  2. install pipewire-pulse and create a pulseaudio executable in your path which returns true when called as "pulseaudio --check". One way to do that would be with
    Code:
    sudo ln -s /bin/true pulseaudio
  3. uninstall pipewire-alsa and install pulseaudio-alsa, so that the sound goes from fmod → ALSA → PulseAudio → Pipewire (and I guess then back to ALSA to actually send the audio to the sound card or is that not used anymore?)
Do any of them work for you?

That's a great find. Solution number 2 works for me. Thanks for your research :)
