15 voters now! And I'll allow all the way through the 5th of February to get 5 more (or extra to that.) I want to see at least 20 voters so let us see some last minute voices. I can tell you that some races are tight and others are pretty much runaways (in fact, one that seemed a runaway is now a very tight race!) Every single vote matters and the more we have the better and more accurate the results. With five days left (including this one) I believe we can hit that mark. So come on AARland, let's get those votes in and support so many of the great writAARs and AARs that we all love. Vote, vote, vote and let's get to at least 20! :)

[To add - I have been tabulating as we go, so if anyone decides to change their vote, which is perfectly fine, please let me know either in this thread or via PM. I thank you.]

- Comedy AAR of the Year:

1. Born to Breed by @Peter Ebbesen
2. Avon Las Observes by @Midnite Duke
3. Ged's Existential Nightmare by @TheButterflyComposer
4. Imperial Cheese by @TheButterflyComposer
5.
6.

This one is fairly straight forward. It's an award for comedy. This can be done in many ways. I will leave it to you to decide what is funny and what is not and if it is well done.

- Gameplay AAR of the Year:

1. Stellaris Wars: A Nemesis Ironman Saga II - Rebellion: The Imperium at War by @Arithmetician
2. Avon Las Observes by @Midnite Duke
3.
4.
5.
6.

Another fairly straight forward category. This is to award the straight gameplay AAR. There can be some crossover here, so feel free to consider it however you wish.

- Historybook AAR of the Year:

1. Wings of Faith. Wings of Fury by @Superstorm
2. Annutio Vobis by @slothinator
3. Superior Arguments by @eoncommander
4. Relight the Flames by @Tommy4ever
5. HaMaadimi Imperium by @CBR JGWRR
6. Sons of Israel by @Cora Giantkiller

This one could get complicated, but really this is the next step from gameplay. Instead of "I did this" it is now, "They did this". Classic history book reads as if a good history book. A survey or more in depth book, it is not one that reads as historical fiction. Though again...tastes and all.

- Narrative AAR of the Year:

1. Wars of the Roses by @coz1
2. Crowns of the Levant by @Werther
3. The Last Heroes by @Macavity116
4. Shattered Glass by @Von Acturus
5. Songs of the Saiban by @Chilango2
6.

This is for the fully narrative work that reads as if a novel or short story of historical fiction. Some works have different sections and if it uses such, it is available for here.

- Megacampaign AAR of the Year:

1. In the Shadow of the Ancients by @Tommy4ever
2. The Russian Path by @Gamov_Andrew
3. Moving past Miracle - Settling the Void (Gothic Megacampaign, part 3) by @alscon
4.
5.
6.

This category is for the megacampaign as the title suggests. There are some that have lasted years and some that are done within a year. What is eligible here is the portion that was written within the time constraints listed in the above post. If there are multiple works for the same megacampaign written within the eligible period, please note this in your vote.

- Multiplayer/Interactive AAR of the Year:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

This is a combined category because there are not as many of these written like the others, but they are still very much a part of our culture here. Multiplayer is just that, an AAR written by two or more people from a game played by two or more people. Interactive is one that calls the reader in to assist making decisions either in the game or the work itself.

- Graphics/AARtist of the Year:
1. @JerseyGiants88
2. @Werther
3. @ibicko
4. @Wraith11B
5. @Peter Ebbesen
6. @Arithmetician

This is for the writAAR that puts in special effort in presentation for their graphics. Could be pictures, videos, screenshot usage and manipulation or anything other that adds visually to the written word offered. Ideally this would be for one writAAR and one work, but some of us do have more than one. I've been liberal in the tabulation here so I'll leave it to you how you vote.

- Character of the Year:

1. Sverker in Born to Breed by Peter Ebbesen
2. Viola in Born to Breed by Peter Ebbesen
3.
4.
5.
6.

This is for a specific and singular character within an AAR. Please do not vote for "the characters in" but rather a specific character in an AAR. Many times there are multiples, but please do try and single it down.

- Newcomer of the Year:

1. @Werther
2. @Von Acturus
3. @Side
4. @Quinzal
5. @RustyHunter
6. @Koweth

This is what it says it is, but some clarification. It does not necessarily mean someone that just joined the forum, but rather is a newcomer around these parts of AARland. If you joined 20 years ago but just wrote your first AAR within the last year, that is eligible. It is about joining into what we do here.

- Writer of the Year:

1. @Macavity116
2. @Tommy4ever
3. @Werther
4. @Midnite Duke
5. @Arithmetician
6. @Superstorm

Here is the place to vote for a person and not an AAR. Those that have one and those that have five...all are eligible. You are voting for the writAAR you think did the most impressive or favorite writing throughout this past year.

- AAR of the Year

1. The Last Heroes by @Macavity116
2. Wars of the Roses by @coz1
3. Crowns of the Levant by @Werther
4. Wings of Faith. Wings of Fury by @Superstorm
5. Shattered Glass by @Von Acturus
6. Ged's Existential Nightmare by @TheButterflyComposer

And finally, here we vote for all works together. It's the Best Picture category. We've awarded our actors and cinematographers, art designers and costume...now the big one. The one where history competes with gameplay, interactive with narrative...all down the line. This is for what you consider the very best or most favorite work regardless of game or style that you've read this past year. Pretty simple, right? ;)

Seeing how many votes I got from @jak7139 (thank you kindly!) I got curious and counted AARs I've done that had updates in 2022. I got to...9. Nine AARs. Eight of them started in 2022. Heh. :p

It might be my most active year. :D I count 38 AARs done by me since CK1, 36 of them from 2015 onwards. So that's over a fifth of my entire production, in one calendar year. :D

As I've had very little time in the last month to dedicate to the forum, be it reading, writing, commenting, or participating in awAARds, it's a small miracle I managed to get this done. I'd like to of course thank all those who voted, in particular those who voted for my work despite my lack of regularity in the past year. I haven't been able to properly catch up on many of the AARs listed below and hope to do so at some point. These awAARds are a reminder of just how much great work is out there. If only I could find the time to read it... Thanks @coz1 for organising the YAYA's and a great 2023 on and off the forum everyone!

Vic 3 has probably helped a lot with that. 6 AARs in that game alone.

Excellent! With 2 more voters, we are up to 17 and a promise of 2 others after that. If we can get at least to 20, we can avoid the dreaded extension and see our winners sooner. Still a lot of tight races so every single vote counts right now! There is really only one runaway contest (and that's just because there are so few votes in the category.)

Feel free to encourage others to vote in your own AARs (without any campaigning, of course.) 4 more days to vote including this one. Vote, vote, vote!

@Midnite Duke you've made my morning. I don't think I've ever had multiple characters nominated for Character of the Year before. :D

I've got no idea if we are allowed to nominate a whole AAR series rather than a single entry. Maybe @coz1 can shed some light on the matter.

I tend to count any vote for a whole or part of a megacampaign series as one as long as the section(s) mentioned was within the eligible dates.

That said, a megacampaign is different than different parts of a series all within the same game (as example, my Wessex series while 4 different books would not have counted as a megacampaign as it was all within CK2.)

And with 2 more votes, we are at 19! Surely we can get past that 20 voter threshold by end of Sunday. Keep it coming, AARland. Vote, vote, vote! :)

Alright, as the AAR Fan of the Week for this week, I suppose that I am sort of obligated to do this, despite not being too terribly versed on all the titles going on right now. I am also declining to cast a vote for Multiplayer AAR and New Person due to lack of familiarity.

Well, folks - we've done it! With two more voters, we have hit 21!

In fact, I went back and checked the records and with 21 voters we have equaled the first year (for the AARs of 2017) in numbers. :)

Can we break that record? I think we can. Just under 48 hours left (as I won't officially cut off voting until Monday morning my time) so still plenty of time. There remain some very tight races and I cannot even try to count the number of AARs listed between the categories. It is a lot!

So submit those final ballots and get ready for two weeks of reveals. While time remains...vote, vote, vote!
