And there's no folder call "logs" in Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4. No settings.txt either.
That means eu4.exe never actually started, as writing those files is the first thing it does. They are still not there after running eu4.exe manually?

Our similar game Crusader Kings 2 is free to play on Steam now. Does it work or have a similar problem?

Make a new Windows user on this machine and log into it with that. Do you get the same problems then?

No, tried running eu4.exe several times, never work. That "loading circle" showed up for half a second and then disappeared.
CK2 works well somehow, never got a problem.

As for a new Windows user, no, it didn't work. Same thing happened.

Very unusual that CK2 works and EU4 does not, their requirements are almost identical. Hard to guess what it might be wrong on this machine to cause this to you!

What antivirus app do you use? Some need extra steps.

Same problem. Had exit code 3221225477. Tried all the suggested fixes, didn't help. Did fresh install, game worked. This was 2 days ago. Today tried to play again, same error message. Do I have to do fresh install every time I want to play the game? Also nice that this forum is saying my message seems like spam so can't send a message either.

n**ton 360 (i cannot post the full name somehow) for gamers.
I'm not familiar with that one in detail, but make sure eu4.exe is in all its exceptions list!

Please make your own new thread in future. Thanks.

That error can be many things, most often an antivirus app getting in the way but also missing or bad Microsoft modules.

That said, the fact it works once but not a second time is weird, regardless of where the problem is.

Once the problem occurs, run eu4.exe directly - what happens?

What AV app do you use?

I didn't see exception list of N**ton at all, so I deinstalled whole app. However it didn't work.
AV apps are often hard to uninstall completely. Use the free utilities Ccleaner and Revo Uninstaller to make sure it is 100% gone.

Also GeForce Experience (that NVIDIA one) didn't detect eu4 as a game.
Nevertheless, make sure it is not running before starting the game.

I don't see N**rton in both app, I think it's fully uninstalled now. And shut GeForce down as well.
But the game still don't work, still appear in task manager (working in background) for five seconds then it's gone.

P.S. sorry for late replying, I was out yesterday.

I don't know what is wrong on your machine to cause this to our game, I'm sorry. Does another clean reinstall fix it, at least temporarily?

Only Epic can refund your money. My experience is they are very reluctant to do so but you can try!

Are you sure the Steam version would not have the same problem though? You could buy it from them, and if it does get a refund right then.

How do I ask Epic for refund? If it works, how would I get my money if Epic did refund? To my bank account or something?
And Steam refund will always work right? I'm afraid I'll give out all my money for nothing.

P.S. would good graphics card be the problem?

I have never bought from Epic so I have no idea how their refund system works, I am sorry.

Steam will always refund if you apply less than 2 weeks after purchase, and with the "You've Played" time in the Steam client under 2 hours.

P.S. would good graphics card be the problem?
A video card will not be causing the game to fail to start, no. That is pretty much always a Windows or antivirus problem.

can confirm this ...
Have EU IV on steam for years .... and now for free on EPIC on an different PC (if an friend come to me and we like to oldskool play an strategig match over LAN ...)
And the EPIC version dont launch ....
Then install on the same PC with my steam account the steam version ..... and this version too dont launch ... (not the launcher, not the eu4.exe alone ...)
I found it was the Ramsonware protection from Win10 .... strange .... on my Main PC and an Surface Pro (both with Win10) i have no problem with EU IV .............

have done this ->
look at the Ramsonware block events ...
(was only EU4.exe + launcherv2.exe)
by both events it is an option to allow this prg .... allow it - then it works
