at maximum speed, the days go slowly by about 2 or 3 times than other players (streamers). In stellaris, for example, I'm fine with the speed of the day counter

I'm not sure I trust those temperature readings. Can you check with different apps please? CPU-Z, GPU-Z, and Speccy might help with that.

If you still see temps over 80c, that is your problem. What actual fps are you seeing in the game?

The settings.txt you attached here does not match the one in your screenshot.

Please update that nVidia driver:
AND unload GeForce Experience before starting the game.

Also, keep in mind that the speed of the CPU doesn't tell the whole story.

I recently moved from an i7 quad core (ivy bridge generation) to a more recent i5 (6 cores, raptor lake generation). And, even though the (turbo) speed of both CPU's is the same (4.2 GHz), the new raptor lake system feels at least twice as fast as my old ivy bridge system. Measured using hoi4.

Your i7 is of the Haswell generation (a 4th generation intel Core CPU), which is the immediate successor of the ivy bridge core my old system uses.

You can take a rather safe bet that the streamers, to which you compare the performance of your system, don't use an almost 10 year old CPU. Over the past 10 years, Intel has improved the efficiency of their CPU's remarkably. As is evident on my Raptor Lake i5 system.

As a side note: I noticed you use 24 GB of main RAM. I used to have that too in my old Ivy Bridge i7 system. Since memory modules of 12 GB don't exist, I assume you're using a 2 x 4 + 2 x 8 setup. Which is what I had as well. And, with that 10 year old CPU, that memory setup had a few issues. Which on my system resulted in a rather unstable download speed over the ethernet connection.

I removed the 2 x 4 memory modules from my system (so it dropped down to 16 GB). The download problems vanished without a trace. And, as another side effect, the CPU cores ran at a much lower temperature ever since.

And since your CPU is very similar to mine, my problems could also be present in your system. I would certainly give it a try to remove the 2 x 4 memory modules from your system and see how it behaves with only 16 GB installed.

The streamers probably have a much better CPU. And eu4 day tick speed is very difficult to compare, because there is no standardized benchmark and the tick speed can fluctuate a lot depending on the situation. Big AI wars for example cause a noticeable slowdown. If you use autonomous sieging, try to deactivate it, because it can cause extreme slowdowns in some situations(this is a bug which might get fixed in the next version).

Thank you very much for your answer.
Updated settings.txt, updated driver.
Added Speccy1,2
60fps pause
have no GEFexperience

It's nice and funny how similar our computer configurations are ;)
I've also been thinking about removing the 2x4 ram for a couple of years. I took them out now
Launched the game after restarting the computer with a new video card driver, but nothing changed

The fact is that the problem does not depend on the stage of the game. In 1444 the days pass comparatively slowly

I had a look at your video and noticed that you had a relatively low FPS (10-15 ) while the game is running. While this is partially a result of eu4 prioritizing the day ticks over the graphics on speed 5, you could try if it helps to lower the graphics settings and using FPS enhancing mods like "aFPS and shader boost" or "fast universalis".
I also noticed that your RAM only runs at 800 MHz which is the lowest possible speed for DDR3. This could slow down eu4 as well.
Overall your speed feels comparable to my laptop which has an i5-6500t. While it can only turbo to 3.1 GHz, it is 2 generations newer, so its single core speed is not that much slower than yours. But my RAM runs on 1867 MHz which is more than twice as fast as yours. So I would say your speed is within the realms of what can be expected from your system. Maybe somebody else has suggestions for some more little improvements

Thanks. Lowered the graphics settings, added both mods. Looks like nothing has changed, added a video. Your arguments are very convincing, but it’s hard for me to understand how my system can easily cope with Stellaris (or eu4 with such a day counter) with the heavy mozilla firefox browser simultaneously turned on (dozens of tabs, YouTube included). All this without any glitches or freezes. I can also play RDR2 at medium-high settings at 40-50+fps
