As per the title. I am playing through my first game as UFP.

The big issue for me is that while the other empires expand to an extent they seem to ignore each other and minors. No wars or tension.

Also, I think there are areas of the game that needs work (beyond the bugs which I am sure will be fixed). The main ones for me are: -

More internal politics (for example holding together the planets of UFP, Cardassian issues between the civilian government and military, the various Klingon houses all seeking power)

Intel is very superficial.

It would be great to see some flavour for minors and different species. Birth of the Federation did this well with unique buildings.

Time passes a bit too quickly. The real life time for ships to warp around , the pace of research, etc. Are fine but the game clock should just tick up slower (but things still take the same amount of real life time if that makes sense).

Missions trees are a bit meh. They are a good inclusion but need a bit more impact and maybe more branching.

Otherwise the game has great art and atmosphere. There is a lot that is good and when the bugs are fixed it's playable, but the game needs some work in some key areas.

I played as the Federation last night, Cardassians declared war on me 5 years into the game, beat me and humiliated me. They then went to war with the Romulans a few years later. On Commodore level, they must have got early weapons tech, upgraded their ships as I could barely scratch them with my Miranda's with starting weapons.

Cardassians have the raider Corps Civic which gives their Hidekis 20% more damage from day one. Hidekis also have the most defense slots amongst all the corvettes.

Playing as the Klingons I have seen Multiple major wars involving everyone. I play on default settings.

Small sample size but my Federation game was very calm, except for the Cardassians beating on the Romulans, and I just expanded peacefully. My Klingon game is much more violent with a bunch of major wars.

I'm playing Romulans, and the AI been declaring war and assimilating minors as did I. No major power fighting yet but I do have a defensive alliance with the federation, (playing the long con)

Lots of pirates tho.

The Cardassians declared war on me (UFP) yesterday, and pulled the Romulans in with them against me. This was a rivalry / humiliation war. I had already signed a defense treaty with the Klingons so they sided with me. I was otherwise unprepared for war as I had neglected my military. At the start of the war the Klingons sent a big fleet followed by some troop transports that attacked and temporarily occupied Bajor (it had already been annexed by Cardassia by this point). The Cardassians / Romulans eventually pushed out the Klingons and proceeded to occupy a system with a new colony I had recently settled just before the war near the Cardassian border. The Cardassians and then the Romulans sent troop transports to the system, then pulled their troop transports out without invading my new colony (which had no defensive armies and only 1 pop). Then they pulled out, attacked Vulcan, and landed troops, occupying it. A few months later they attacked the Sol system, which I countered with every military ship I had but still lost and they took Space dock One while the remnants of my fleet emergency warped out. After that their war exhaustion was at the point where they were ready for peace, and a Cardassian-UFP neutral zone was created.

The AI seems pretty passive in the first game I have played. The Romulans declared war on the Cardassians at one point, and I know the Cardassians were in a war against some minor power as well. They do expand, but not a ton. Their economy AI doesn't seem able to keep pace with me.

Disclaimer: I am playing a game that started from the tutorial, so I do wonder if the AI is a little bit better when starting a new game.

Either way, I really hope the Infinite development team takes inspiration from the AI improvements that have been happening in Stellaris over the last several patches. The AI used to be rather pathetic in that game as well, but they have really improved it to the point it can actually build decent fleets.
