Required

Summary

Picking passengers on one stop takes HOURS!

Steps to reproduce

Just create tam/bus lines on streets in medium density residential buildings. Problem occurred in have used lines (about 15 stops on route, below 10 km). Buses are not overfilled (they are mainly near empty). Buses are not in traffic jam.

Expected Result

As in real, Bus arrive on stop, passengers exchange quickly and bus depart.

Actual Result

Bus arrive on stop passengers and.... wait in picking state near one hour or more making a buss jam on platform. Same situation is for trams. No private cars cause that situation. At rush hours I have sometimes even 6 buses from one line waiting on the same stop.

  • Microsoft Store (Xbox)

Hello there!
After loading the attached save file I've noticed that there are a lot of passengers waiting on bus stations. Furthermore I didn't notice that there is a buss jam (If I may ask which Line is the most jammed for further investigation?).
If I may suggest increasing the amount of buses/trams on your lines (this should fix the issue potentially)

In savegame there is not active situation, but more and more buses/trams not solve traffic (passenger jams). Just they sequential arrive/depart form stop. Its very randomly situation to spot it, but i noticed one thing. Bus waiting and depart after some overdued passengers running into bus, after just jump in to the bus - bus depart. So, probably is a problem with matching passengers to buses- buses are waiting until lat passenger in table get inside a vehicle - even that passenger stuck on crossing before bus arrive on stop. IF i Spot that situation I do some video record to post here. Stay tuned!

I'm not sure this is a bug. At least in the cases I've had, it seems to be by design.

In C:S 1, busses could easily end up driving in stacks, like if there was a traffic jam, and busses on a line ended driving very close to each other. A mod fixed that (the one where you could adjust bus types etc., don't remember the mod's name). The mod made sure that if this happened, the busses would take longer time to continue, to spread out more on the line.

In every case I've had busses in C:S 2 pausing for a long time at a bus stop, it was because of the same issue. A lot of busses on the same line driving too close together.
So to me, it seems, that the devs implemented the same feature, as the C:S 1 mod.

One of my love affairs in both Cities: Skylines games, was/is to solve traffic. I've spend many hours in both games, to watch traffic behaviors, and solve the traffic accordingly. So I feel confident this is by design, at least in my own C:S 2 city.
If you click a bus line and you see that in between two stops, you have 3 or more busses, the first will exit the next bus stop quickly, and one or more of the rest will pause for a while.

I've had this happen with both buses and trams, but usually for the first several minutes after creating a new line.

From what I understand, the depot sends out every vehicle requested for the line at the same time, and they'll all either start bunching up at the first few stops or stop for a very long time at those first stops, and then moving on when each vehicle will be evenly spaced along the line. However, I've also seen it happen occasionally where they'll just randomly stop in place for an excessive period of time.

Yes, I think about it before posting, but buses have space to each other, just arrive and stop. Situation that you mentioned, I observe and is intentional behavior on stop near depots. Is it OK but game can be better handle demand for buses not just spawn whole army just in one time.

And will be ok when bus can be overfilled or something unusual -but in my report - bus just stay and wait - nothing interfering this situation.

I played almost 2 game days on your map, and watched that particular bus stop from your screenshot the whole time, while changing the overview between the two lines going there.

I saw exactly the behavior I was expecting. When busses are too close, they wait. Usually for a couple of game minutes. I saw one bus waiting for 20 minutes, because 3 busses were fairly close to each other. There was only one bus waiting for 40 game minutes, and at a time, where it was less important to make space. But that was the onlykind of odd behavior on your map.
It was a purple bus, and it was holding back another purple bus (line 3 I think), amd two blue (line 1)..
An easy fix is to place a separate bis stop 50 meters further back, and have the blue line 1 stop there instead. If this doesn't solve at least the congestion of busses piling up, try to remove the offending bus stop, place a new at the same spot, and reconnect the purple line.

I am having similar issues with people "boarding" any vehicle and causing extreme traffic jams. I was redirected here because I guess my post was considered a duplicate.

I've observed a recurring issue affecting both trains and trams that leads to significant disruptions. Often, these trains and trams are boarding passengers individually, even when there are thousands waiting. This slow process not only delays the passengers but also causes a backlog for subsequent services in the schedule.

I am sadly having this issue on my map, dunno if city size has to do with it. This city is 340K population, resulting in a 142MB savefile.

You'll be able to catch my one subway line backing up like this. I think some lag has developed in vehicle boarding.

I have the same issue, it is very annoying for tram, because one tram block the tram for other line:

It is constanly looking like this, and so the tram on the red line are just stuck there, and almost never get to the line they need to deserve:

And when they finally manage to get there, they just disapears and let the people inside go by foot:

This is where I wonder too if it might be necessary to have "strategic tracks" connecting the tram depot to different lines to allow for bypassing such situations. That said I also am believing the massive number of agents in the pedestrians may cause this issue too.

Easy fix for my problem, which is mostly with trams, would be allowing to reduce tram/bus numbers per line. I'm not sure why there's a forced minimum that we can't change. If I want to have only one tram on a 20km line, let me have it.
