Summary

AI does not conquer last province of a country

Description

In my current game, about 60 years in, the AI has not been conquering the last provinces of the countries they declare war on, instead making peace with them after only demanding reparations or other unimpactful terms. This process repeats itself as the truce expires, and goes on for however long the small, single-province country exists.

I remember this being a bug in an earlier version about a year ago too, so I really hope it's fixed soon.

Steps to reproduce

Start a game and watch all the countries that normally would be absorbed by their neighbors become and indefinitely remain OPMs.

Game Version

1.36.0.0

OS

Windows

Bug Type

  • AI (non-player characters)

Hello there! Thank you for the report. It unfortunately wasn't clear what the issue was. Could you please provide more information and if possible a way to reproduce the issue?

I accidentally submitted it early and didn't have permission to edit or reply, what I meant to write under "Steps to reproduce" was "Start a game and watch all the countries that normally would be absorbed by their neighbors become and indefinitely remain OPMs."
This has happened in my current game with Morocco; I teamed up with Portugal to gobble them up, until Morocco was just one province in the middle of Portugal's area that I wasn't able to get them in one of the wars. I figured they could take it later, but now they've declared three wars on the one-province Morocco, occupied this one province, and made peace with gold and reparations - never annexing their last province. You can see this in the save I uploaded.

I remember this being a bug for several months when Leviathan was released, as well.

Reactions:
The present is a design choice and not a bug. If you have any questions about it, don't hesitate to ask about it on the main forum for the game. Issue cannot be reproduced, AI conquering provinces as designed.

…how exactly is the AI intentionally designed to attack a country, take all their provinces except for one (despite that one being one of their provinces of vital interest), and then declare wars on this one-province country repeatedly and never demand this last province?

I've triple check your issue, and it cannot be reproduced on our side. Like I mentioned above, countries were conquering everything normally without leaving one province which works as design.
