Very old article by computing standards.

I went from a 8700k to a 5800x3D personally, massive improvement for me in all Paradox games and hopefully will last me another 4 years til AMD or Intel emerge with a worthwhile improvement.

It's a TPM chip designed by Microsoft. Nothing sinister about it.

All vaguely recentish x86-64 CPUs are varying degrees of insecure. The question is always "which vulnerabilities do you care about?"

If you want to get a PC that will last more than a few years, I'd recommend something like this. It should be good for the next generation of GSG's, beyond CK3 & V3 as well.

GPU probably doesn't matter as much

Years ago I accidentally plugged my new hdmi cable into my motherboard instead of my gpu, thought it was bricked since I would get 1-3 fps in games. However, with EU4 I still got 20-30. I had an intel i7-4790k at the time. i7-4790k does have a great single core performance though, so that would have helped.

Honestly, 16GB is an uncomfortable fit for Vic3 on up-to-date OSes.

32 GB (2x16 GB sticks) also has much a better price:capacity ratio than 16 GB (2x8 GB sticks), at least by current US DDR5 pricing. And you don't want to buy 1x16 GB because that loses out on dual channel memory.

If you are using Windows 4GB is hardly enough for a web browser with a few tabs and Steam these days, let alone playing games at the same time.

8 GB free RAM are definitely enough unless you use some extreme resource intensive mods(maybe M&T or voltaires nightmare)

8GB is definitely too little when you include other Paradox games, especially if you want to play Vic 3, and likely any future GSG title. Vic 3 alone can want to use more than that.

You totally misunderstood my comment. I was only talking about eu4 and only about free RAM and not total RAM. The RAM which the OS, webbrowser or any other programs are using is not included. I think it is impossible to give recommendations for the total RAM, because different people have very different usage patterns. I can easily fill the 16 GB RAM of my old laptop and eu4 startup gets slowed down considerably, because the system starts to swap. And at times I could fill 32GB before even starting a game. That's why I'll order 64 GB RAM for my new laptop. But I'm an extreme user and other people might need less.

There's nothing wrong with the chip on the CPU.

The 7800x3D will fly, I use a 5800x3D myself. The 7800x3D in general will be faster, not to mention AM5 is a more modern platform so in 2-3 years you can likely upgrade it if a better processor comes out down the road.

You shouldn't have any issues running Paradox games for a long time to come with it.

Can anyone with 5800X3D/7800X3D test (or maybe already did that) most demanding mods for Paradox games, like MEIOU and Taxes for EU4, BlackICE for Hoi3, TNO for Hoi4 or vanilla (or modded) Victoria 3 between 1900-1936?

Among these I think that Victoria 3 between 1900-1936 is the slowest (poor optimization), but MEIOU also lags like crazy (lot's of content and calculations).

I'm just curious if you can speed five these mods/games with such powerful CPU.
