Congratulations on your character development, @Superstorm. We usually learn about empire builders not the captain as the crash happens.
Congratulations!
Congrats, @Superstorm. Looks like another AAR to check out.
Thanks for the well wishes! I really appreciate the support. :)
Congratulations @Superstorm

Hypothetically, if someone wanted to catch up but 80 chapters looks unrealistic given the time available, is starting from the beginning necessary or can one just jump in at the start of a reign?
Thank you! I looked back and yeah, there are *a lot* of chapters hah.

I am almost certainly biased, but I think you can read from the start of a reign. With each character I try and have a self-contained story of their reign and the troubles/actions of that person. There will be mention of previous points in the history, as it’s done in the same style as a non-fiction book you’d read for studying, but usually in passing.

If I can recommend characters, I would, again with bias, suggest Havel first. It’s his reign you get the foundation of the Empire itself, lots of warfare and legends, law codes and his (in-universe) legendary expedition to Byzantium.

For a personal favourite, I would suggest Konrad I. He was the most fun I’ve had with a character: stuck between two massive empires, humiliated by one and disliked, he leads to the humiliation one, the utter destruction of the other AND he has a cute cat. He centralises the empire through administrative means and the blood of the innocent and guilty alike; in universe, Konradian' became the 'Machiavellian' of our world.

So I think it’s possible to pick and choose. I’ll admit one thing I fell behind on is the century summaries but I’m hoping to do a big ‘state of the game’ summary soon and it’s not 100% vital to understand what’s happening with regard to the Gryfita dynasty.

And yeah, feature creep is real lol. It’s ballooned and had numerous delays, but I’m so happy to see people still wanting to give it a read. ^^

I would like to nominate and point the forum's attention to @Cora Giantkiller and her Finnish AAR, The Sword of Virtanen, in the CK3 subforum. This is a character-driven narrative and she has developed several excellent characters. However, I think Ermengarda is my favorite, and she stands out because she's a Spanish character adjusting to Finland.

Also, I will point out Cora has not won this award for three years, so she is definitely overdue.

This AAR is just at the end of its first section (book) and was an easy one to jump into late. Excellent work.

Strictly speaking I wasn't active in the board for a couple of those years, so maybe not quite so overdue. Still, very much appreciated.

And so my reading list grows yet further…

Congrats @Cora Giantkiller !

An excellent AAR and, as @Chac1 says, very easy to jump into. Congratulations @Cora Giantkiller!

Thanks, everybody! The Sword of Virtanen has been tremendously fun to write, Ermengarda in particular, and I appreciate your support.

Congrats, @Cora Giantkiller. Ermengarda is a truly intriguing character.

Congratulations Cora!

Congratulations indeed Cora.

Congratulations, Cora! I'll definitely have to check the Sword of Virtanen out soon.

Wow I've not commented here in a while! Sorry!

Congratulations @IliciMan, @Nikolai, @TheButterflyComposer, @Superstorm and @Cora Giantkiller!

And thank you @Chac1 for keeping this moving with your knowledge of the AAR landscape!

Rensslaer

Thanks again, everybody! I'm really thrilled for the response.

I would like to open the thread up for nominations now; I'm afraid that I've been swamped with midterms and family obligations this past week so I haven't had much time to give a considered nomination myself.

As this is open for nominations again, I would like to nominate @Crimson Lionheart who has not won this award for about ten months or so. I would like to call folks' attention to their AAR in the EUIV subforum Imperium Sine Fine and their main character so far, Robert XI de Hauteville who begins as someone called "the mad duke" and how his ambitions change Europe. The entire concept of this AAR is quite interesting and it is still early on so easy to catch up with this tale.
