Naturally those comments such as "The Corundium in this mine will last 800 years" refer to "at the present rate of mining".

If you bring in more mines and double the number, then the deposit will be exhausted twice as fast.
Can't we also research faster mining rates?

Yes, but we're already up to the level where we'll need 150,000 research points for the next level, and double that for the next.

We could use a hundred more Research Labs... but I'm building Mines.

... and of course our very best C-P scientist isn't working on Mining Rate anyway... she's working on Research Rate.

Lots of surplus Grinders in Tau Ceti. We'll open a new mine in P Eridani.

also in reference to some of the sites you have mentioned, the rate will decline as the accessibility drops off.

It's not a perfect system but it's the best we got really.

Yeah, I realize that even a carefully calculated number will be off because of the drop-off of ACC as tonnage runs out.

... but by then we'll probably want to be moving the Grinders to a new location anyway, because (1) the Return-on-Investment from this mine will be petering out, and (2) new and better mining sites elsewhere will have been found by then.

Our obsolescent Scientist class scout ships have finished the Geo-Survey of the Prixhome system (with average results) and are now checking for jump points out.

We have four of the new-model Scientist V class under construction.

With the ground-based Geo-survey of Prixhome completed (worthless 10% ores) the Geo-Survey teams are returning to Earth.

In preparation for our upcoming expansion phase, we have begun construction on a dozen more Sabres along with their supporting Eyeballs, Whetstones, etc and a set of Gadget class maintenance bases (for setting up new Naval bases); and also re-started Grinder construction with another 20 on the slipways.

4.4 years - does that include retooling shipyards?

Also, I wonder if we can build multiple emotion variants in the same shipyard or if we can't. Even with a bridge design.

The designs seem close enough. I would be surprised if we can't

In the ship design section there is a "Refit From" and "Refit To" list, and if it says "Yes" then you can build in the same shipyard as well.

I can build obsolete Constellation class Carriers in a shipyard tooled for Winged Hussars, but not Emotions or Phalanxs.

Maybe it goes by monetary value, or minerals used in construction or something?

Two more weeks and we'll have a shipyard re-tooled for Phalanxs (the PD-escort version of the Emotion chassis).

Since ship construction is getting back underway, we should give some thought to breaking up some of the older designs that didn't go anywhere.

General class, for example. Island class, maybe.

The terraformed gas giant moon Nessus in the Alpha Centauri star system has begun building its own construction factories.

... using 20 construction factories lent from Earth, to do it...

Is this the beginning of an industrial revolution in the provinces?

Up until now all manufacturing has been centralized at Earth, with the provinces supplying resources.

In other news, a proposal is being considered to open up three more moons of Jupiter as colony sites.

There are no minerals there... they would serve mostly as destinations for trade and tourism.

Culise inaugurates the Second Age of Exploration by finding and entering a new jump point in the recently captured Prixhome star system.

Beyond the star-bridge, Culise finds an odd system... the central "star" is in fact a super-jovian gas giant planet, with two more gas giants in orbit around it!

LOL at the "Luminosity zero" star in the center!

There is a tool out there that lets you make bridge designs - ship designs you can tool a yard to which makes it possible to build both in the same shipyard.
