Since then Basileus did away with some Orthodox rulers and now 3 heirs in line to Byzantine throne are Catholic as well.
That is such a pain! In my Arles game I just used the console to make everyone involved Orthodox again (and edited the save file to forbid secret cults), but that's not an option in your game...
That's why Carousing is strong on bad characters - just make bunch of friends and let them keep upgrading several of your weak stats. Here it is more of a bonus though.
I did not know that! Thanks for the tip.
we finally have 16 martial commander
Are they scarce because you're only looking for Scottish commanders? There should be tons of martial 16+ commanders you could invite, if it's OK for some to be non-Scottish non-Italians.

Thanks for the advice on looking for cultural commanders, btw. I've seen Pike Column Advance a few times as Arles has beaten up on Germany recently. :)
start improving our personal demense
Are your demesne provinces so undeveloped because you feudalized relatively recently? Or is it from prioritizing other things, like all those universities? My demesne castles are always maxed out as soon as possible, so it was weird to see your castle screenshot, especially at such a late date in the game.
Muhallabid Scottish Sunnis
Awesome! :D
Enemy center charges into us and we use "Force Back" not only buffing our Pikemen but also receiving +300% modifier for countering their tactic.
The joys of pikes! That's pretty common in my experience.
Time to fiddle with Feudal obligations
Another side effect of late feudalizing? There's no point pushing noble obligations when you're tribal, so I guess this makes sense.

On foci - I tend to like Family early in a ruler's reign as well. Not the most exciting focus but it does the job it's intended for pretty well.

It's from an event that happens about a month after the birth. The event states that when the mother is getting communion for the first time since giving birth, she nearly chokes and 'reveals' the name of the baby's 'real father' (which doesn't change the father, just makes your child a bastard).

It's honestly as stupid as that time in CK3 where your heir would suddenly gain disputed heritage all the time (because of a different character having a specific focus iirc).
I must have missed it. But I do recall "communion" happening and me being little suprised why did it happen (the event). Thanks for the clarification :)

Well that makes at least for interesting development. I think I'll think of something to adapt to new circumstances - not too keen on fighting to seed my own prefered Basileus in Constantinopole.

For quite some time the state of high command in Permo-Siberia was really awful. Didn't want to invite seperate courtiers for commanders as we are housing Muhallabids in court and going over the limit, decreases courtier fertility (IRC).

You're welcome!

Since we feudalised (almost 100 years ago) we did spent like 50.000 gold coins on Universities alone, not to mention Roads and all the city founding. With Tribal Retinues that were padding our numbers it was just a waste to spend gold on military. This way we get more income and technology spread. It is kind of optimizing towards end of playthrough to squeeze extra results. Oh we were also building another Great Wonders so that counts too! Generally my idea was to get the financial snowball startedd so we can get others things done when there is nothing else to do.

We were pushing City&Temple obligations as Tribals though. We also achieved Imperial Bureaucracy so I'm quite happy with how much reforms we did.

I usually just stick with seduction as it is quicker - make your future spouse your lover for extra boost to fertility and his/her loyalty to you. Seduction also offers control on how many legitimized children you will have and allows managing your concubines opinion modifiers (make her forgive you for kidnapping her and then to love you). Family though is really nice for aiming to have bigger family. Carousing can help in that too if you invite lustful characters from opposite sex (and well Hedonist offers +fertilty). Overall it's just really light on traits and I don't necessarily want Proud. If this focus allowed more interventions as ward I would pick it more often. Still it has use in granting every child Ambitious and then removing it with certain event. That's if you already have diligent on them and prefer ambitious over patient.

Interesting. I almost never use Seduction, since my heir is always married shortly after coming of age, well before the end of my previous character's reign. Sometimes CK2 couples take 10-15 years to have a kid, and although I get ag-cog as soon as I can, inheritance is so much easier if they manage to have a boy (or two, "an heir and a spare" etc.). So leaving the heir unmarried until he takes the throne is too risky for my tastes. If he and his wife haven't been fertile enough during those NPC years, the extra fertility from Family does the trick.

Reforms - I always push noble levies just as hard as city taxes. But trying to get started on that Polish Romuva game is reminding me that I've forgotten a great deal about being tribal. I think they need a lot more reforms than any feudal game, since they need tribal organization, which ends with a fully empowered council in place, which one then has to mostly (or entirely) disempower. The reform cooldowns from working on the council would get in the way of the usual obligation law moves, centralization, etc.

Day 1 of a new game also seems like prime Family focus time. Maybe I could have tried for Seduction. There aren't a lot of marriageable women at the start of a game, so there'd be a real risk she'd get married off before Seduction events were done with her. Plus I'm not 100% sure if a Polish duke could do Seduction in a nomad khan's court...

going over the limit
Is there a way to see the court size limit, and whether one is over it, in game?

I'm pretty sure you can seduce anyone in the same realm, so if you're a vassal of the nomadic khan (or more likely, a nomadic Khagan) then you'll be able to seduce someone in the court. The restriction on religion applies to people in foreign realms.

I don't think so, even the wiki just says that it is limited. In the text for the game rule, it states there are events for when the limit is on, I don't know what they are (I've always played with the court size limit disabled as it didn't disable achievements when I used to play for achievements).

Part LII (1193-1200)

Part LII (1193-1200)

Year 1193
======================

Time to fix the mess that occurred at the end of last part. Not sure, if we will make it in time (before peasant rebels enforce demands on our vassal rebels) yet we will try. Meanwhile - some courtier cleanup takes place - decided to sack all old Jewish courtiers. Those 50+ old characters that we didn't convert in time, will no longer be usable for us. Instead of wasting any instance of courtier conversion in capital on them I would rather our Patriarch rolls on one of younger characters. So I invite 5 new 30+ old Askhenazi characters generated from events within our diplomatic range. I also arrange more of marriages between our mayor vassals, so you know... More of the usual. Spot another city vassal that despite having his capital in our capital duchy somehow drifted away to different duke. Not sure why this happens. In previous part I had a thesis that it happens, if more than 1 city holding is within other duchy de jure borders. But this second occurance doesn't follows that pattern so I'm no longer too sure of that. Well will have to finally revoke it the next chance we get. But that's in the future as we still have previous tyranny penalty for 2 more years. Have to wait till this times out or we just not only prolong the opinion penalty - we actively add to it (currently -45).

On 6th of January our Nenetsian vassals decides to create new title - kingdom of Vladimir. It is not exactly to our liking as he is still under gavelkind and we are trying to give him independence thus we are revoking back and forth titles to make for clean cut since 100 years ago. Not only does it costs me nerves but also - money that we could get, if we instead kept revoking vassals (bishops especially). Well at the moment he has only single son so it isn't so bad. But you know it, I know it, everyone knows it. He will get several sons more and it will devolve into another border gore.

We get another conversion (some female courtier) as more of our Jewish "administrators to be" arrive. With that 6 out of 10 possible targets within our capital are characters we just invited. Those are pretty acceptable odds if I say so myself. Some nomads arrive to pay us a pillaging visit (how very nice of them <3) in Western Sayan (east of Cumania). So our 3.000 strong Pike retinues from Silkroad is called into action.

By March our 12.000+ levies from Perm are assembled in Qazan and start marching with 15 Martial Organizer commander (+35% Movement Speed) towards Mari rebels that completely took over Mari county (including our direct vassals baronies that were not part of rebelion). I'm not sure they will make it but we have to try anyway. Soon another family focus event fires - we once again improve our relations with Empress Zaynab. Sadly it still doesn't provide us with lifestyle modifier. To my suprise garrison of castle in Hlynov holds suprisingly well (they didn't raise their levies to help their overlord in rebelion) - rebels don't manage to take even a 10% of siege progress before our late relief arrives.

wziOqFE.jpeg

We assign what few commanders we currently have but we are still lacking in this department. We also suffer River crossing penalty. Finger Crossed!

Battle starts somewhat poorly for us as enemy center counters our harass with volley (+200% dmg). That's not enough and suprisingly with our not that big advantage in numbers we actually win the skirmish phase, suffering far less damage that one would expect. Then once we enter melee the day is ours. We lose over 1.200 men but claim 5.800 enemy heads. We also take over what little siege progress there was. After that I split my levies into two and march the other half to Mari county to recapture rebel holdings. Meanwhile one of our previously beaten down retinues continued working on Kerzhenets and are about to take over rebel castle. Just as one battle ended, other began on the other side of Permo-Siberian empire. Our retinues catched 2.000 raiding nomadic host. One of enemies wings secured narrow flanks but our Scottish commander wisely dealt with other army segment first. He even rolled Schiltrom formation rapidly destroying enemies in melee dealing over 350 casualties per day. Then we get way worse result due to enemy narrow flank but finally grind out a victory with 306 casualties in exchange for 769 enemies fertilizing our lands.

As battles raged, we get one Jew converted. Also Monothelite heresy breaks out in Vologda which is somewhat unlucky given that we are still on 100% Moral Authority. Well our vassals will have to deal with it. Our Apprentice from Hermetic society offers us to try a hand at summoning divine being and we gladly spent one of our ingredients on that (Hibiscus). To my suprise 4 ingredients get removed at once =.=. Well they were kind of bugged out as we had way too many but still. Our Bishop from Udmurts also dies and thus we get 3/2 non-Monastic replacement.

On 19th of July second son is born to Emperor Turush - Prince Aymort. He is Genius! So this is really nice development, meaning we only need to disinherit one child to let him take over. Any more kids at this point are extra for either military alliances or becoming skilled in stewardship bishops. Remembering about tip learned in this AAR topic I curiously check the birthdates. All the kids are born on 19th. So they all have the same father. But the first child (Princess Sernyava) was Bastard. So either we are getting cuckolded all the time or the first time it was a result of some special event (that left our daughter without father in character window). Finger crossed we do not lose Prince Aymort to the same event, as his older brother was safe from it. We also decide to make a Horoscope to not miss the opportunity for extra stats on our next character.

4F9PaYY.jpeg

Well finally. The modifier I was waiting for. Together with confindent seer we are looking at +3 to all attributes from Hermetic Society.

At long last we got critical success in summoning event. Meaning +2 to all stats. Not that we are particularly hurting for attributes at the moment as we have all the necessary values but it is still nice. This will also persist for another 10 years. Horoscope turns somewhat less stellar - Aymort rolls diplomacy fate. Well we encourage it anyway as after my previous study of that event in game files I see no reason not too (you are not penalized for choosing different education so those are just free stats anyway and if you match the education focus you might get extra education upgrage). Another bishop also bites the dust- this time in Pilva. So our Monastic administration is further undone.

In August we sent our recently converted courtier to become monk. He settles in Samara which is unexpected for me as I don't remember tinkering with any Bolghar duchy bishopric myself. It is also useless as Bishop there is 9 years younger and already pretty skilled (19 stewardship). Thanks game - it was pointless. Growing more dissapointed with how that idea turns out - 80% of our candidates ends in Perm for some reason thus we not only are not able to progress but are making back progress with multi-bishops. Soon after that we conclude Cheremisian rebelion. Titles are secured (duchy+county), rebel is forced to take vows and we destroy Cheremisia duchy. In newly acquired county we appoint 19 martial courtier from one of our vassal courts. This will somehow improve our potential army size. Want to point out there are more and more reasons for wanting to keep single county vassals as you play tall - each of them gets capital county bonus to levies and uses his martial to further increase levy numbers. So with that we get those bonuses on almost every county within our not too big empire. Not to mention we additionally have way more courts generating Komi Orthodox characters to poach for ourself when in need of skilled character for some low cost (~100 gold).

September marks the end of other extraction war - title of Mari duchy is thus destroyed and new high martial count is seeded there afterwards. This leaves us with just Dukes of Qazan and Ural to dismantle, Duke of Zyriane not needing dismantling and Komi/Veliky Ustug being something we might but don't have to do. There is Duke of Tobol that somehow is holding both county of Bolgharia as vassal and single county in Cheremisia (and also is thus hating us as he desired some titles we hold - for example Duchy of Bolgharia). This will conclude western part of Realm (Kingdom of Perm and Volga-Bolgharia), after which we will have to start working east of Ural mountains (where there is much more consolidation to break apart but at least they can generate technology points for now).

We finally can disband levies and save on paying them (over 50g per month). We are still hurting from all the retinue trashing presented to us by rebels (over 1.000 a year and it will take us quite some time before high reinforcements costs will be waved off). Seeing as one of my vassals declares war for gavelkind on his overlord I'm perplexed. Isn't it blocked by external vassal wars? I check and realise that most of my kingdom titles have it not banned (despite us clicking it on Empire). Maybe that's the issue? After clicking it on our primary kingdom title it automatically is applied to both Kingdom of Siberia and Cumania. That should help I hope.

October presents itself with opportunity to improve prosperity in Turgay for almost 400g. I skip on it. This reminds me - our big Nenetsian ally is big enough to be able to access prosperity mechanic and thus he is working his crown focus in Nenetsia. Curious how it will turn out in the long term as I have no clue how well AI uses it. After scanning whole map I spot just 1 county in India that managed to get prosperity province modifier. Not sure if they are lost upon change of owner though. On topic of our favourite pink vassal - he is losing against Jomsvikings. Fret not - they just suffered huge Cathar Finnish rebelion for independence of Suomi with over 24.000 troops :)".Which will definetely shake things a lot as both currently warring sides have only around 7.000 troops.

Being the "CK2 Gamer" that I'm am - for once I remember to slow down before 1st of November. Which means we are making 2 feasts this season. Pause allows to micromanage all the kids in the court. Our Scottish program is coming nicely - we have like 2 Scottish/Orthodox teenagers and 4 more young children being in the process of converting. With them I will have easier time creating more dedicated commanders as we no longer will be limited in lowborn marriage options (meaning Scottish/Orthodox from get go). Screwed once though and ended with Orthodox/Georgian but as he is from Byzantine culture group he should have access to their unique cavalry tactic. From what I remember it is no good on Greeks retinues but maybe it will be just fine with mercenary only cavalry force? Will have to check it as we might still make use of that.

Before end of year we land another conversion but this time it is one of our last Sunni Muhallabids. As I was checking on them I realised that the one Muhallabid rival we had and sent away, after ending within Khazar Company (which was closest Sunni realm to Perm) ended up as their next captain. Then he reconverted to Sunni and I think right now he might be eligible for Decadent trait (as he is Cruel, Greedy but also Just and Temperate level 2 diplomatic education focus). He was the oldest of 3 brothers with middle one having 6 children and youngest one being childless (he was the one we just converted). As first feast ends on 30th of December game is paused and another feast is issued. Spotted that we have Smallpox outbreak in Burtasy. Where there is no Hospital - oops! While we don't have crown focus there it would be a pity to lose level 3 prosperity. It also cuts down on income from holdings (-25%).

Year 1194
======================

We enter 1194 with almost 25.000 gold coins, +3.493 income but -843 yearly expense (retinues). As you see with few more bishops dieing and some city vassals mysteriously changing suzerains our annual income took a hit. We are still 2 years away from being able to invoke tyranny again so we will have to do with what we have right now. On other hand most of our previous constructions finally ended. With that most of our directly owned Castles have that Barrack V building. Now it is time to push upgrades on our Cultural buildings - Warrior Gathering Grounds.

4okc7qk.jpeg

Another round of buildings consumes almost 2,000 gold at once. But we really will benefit from extra toughness on Melee Infantry.

After initial purchase I decided to splurge on more universities (around 700+ gold per building) and more Monastic Schools (100+ gold per building). Sometimes even level 2 roads in cities are started. Was happily clicking away but halfway through our eastern lands I came dangerously close to not being able to afford next prosperity event. Ended on 10.500 gold coins remaining. Talk about huge infrastructural projects. Still think that getting those improving technology spread buildings sooner is the right move. We probably feudalised way too late to be thinking about maxing technology in every single county within borders but we will still try. On the plus side spotted that almost all of our vassals Stewards are furiously helping via researching economic technology, which means that every vassal provides between +30% and +90% technology spread speed to at least 1 county. Which is great as we have quite a few counties with just Castles (no help) or Temples (minimal help). Each 8 Stewardship council member on tech job is basically worth 1 level of University and costs us much less. Right now I plan to further invest in technology with Hospitals. Not only will they secure our prosperity levels but thanks to higher disease resistance we might also avoid more penalties to province income. As we prioritised Construction technology first we have it quite well spread already. So it will give us access to two additional +25% technology spread buildings that are not tied to holding slots, which will make huge impact on counties with few/none holding slots. That will have to wait till we deal with Mongols first though.

ufHc2Wm.jpeg

Week ago during some free time I mapped the technology spread within empire to give you better insight on how much my university/monastic school funding helps. Doesn't include Councillor bonuses. Personal demense shares access to technology within having to be adjecent.

By March we finish another feast but also lose one Mayor vassal with no people ready to replace him. We really need our Patriarch to start hitting our Jewish court members with those conversion. Then we get option to refresh our Trade route modifier in Kudymkar. Luckily it scales up to only 200g cost. Then it is no-brainer decision as each year that bonus (+30% income) provides us more than 27g a year from 3 cities alone. Should also last 10-20 years. Upon checking I get a suprise. Either it didn't update or updated incorrectly as new expiration timer shows 1196 (just 2 more years). Will have to monitor if it vanishes according to tooltip (should be another 10-20 or 30 years from what I remember and definetely not 2 extra years). So it might turn out we got scammed afterall.

With start of May we organize Summer Fair (another +6 prosperity points to capital in Tynea). We also get notification that someone is trying to murder our wife. We do not known about that plot and lately there was also plot against our daughter. Despite our Spymaster being here we know nothing. So I send him into Thrace to improve technology spread in Tynea. We also reassign Marshal to train troops there. Halfway through the May Emperor Turush loses content trait. This is nice - we go down to just 5 traits leaving us some breathing room. Nothing of substance was lost with content trait too. Now we have emergency room for Proud that can happen from Family focus, keeping our Diligent trait safe. Smallpox does spread to most of southern Volga-Bolgharia. On other hand retinue cost decrease to just around 170g per year.

Another Mayor dies in July but this time he is replaced with superior specifem - Quick + ambitious which results in 16 stewardship governor. All we ever wanted thus we can just marry him to some less skilled female courtier to keep the available targets in the future. But we run out of lowborns women thus I invite 7 more. All of them have rather high stewardship (13+) so this will help.

In August epidemy of Measles breaks out in Perm and Kolva. Most unfortunate - but at the very least the penalty to income is just 10%. Then we finally get our conversion thus we can start working on replacing single "over the limit" Mayors. Sadly Measle spreads throughout our capital duchy. We do remember to slow down to not miss the timing on starting the Feast on 1st of November.

Soon our assasination succeds but we have to start another till we generate some mayor with at least 12 stewardship. Then we can marry him to our lowborn courtier with 17 stewardship and it should be fixed. Luckily as Measle avoided our capital in Tynea we soon get information that it reached final level of prosperity. Meaning we can soon stop with Feasts and Fairs.

During feast Emperor Turush get's stressed. We can't brew Eudaimonia potion as we only have 1 ingredient (and it requires us to have at least 2). So now we can be really angry at game previously taking 4 ingredients at once even though we only opted to use 2 :/. It doesn't mess our attributes and we will survive that -1 health thanks to Family focus (+1 health), Pet Owl (+1 health) and Holy Prepuce (+0.5 health).

Year 1195
======================

Year starts with 11.451 gold in imperial treasury and just +3.402 annual income. At least our expenses went down to 186g. If you wonder why our gold is lower than expected - kept building as some counties finished their construction. Our main demense is still waiting on places with slowest construction speed to catch up. Also those 2 epidemics kind of hurt us.

Another assasination succeeds but we still don't get viable candidate. We can hold Grand Debate as the cooldown ended but I don't think there is much point to doing it. Instead we invite our Duke Malyaka of Kazakh (also member of Hermetic society) to stargazing as we just went off the cooldown from previous time. Soon we get option to impress him by utilizing previously purchased observatory equipment (decision to pick Hermetic Art). It works and he is impressed.

By end of April our Empress once again becomes pregnant. Our Paranoid ruler once again doubts himself. Let him be. Our Nenetsian vassal suffers first rebelion after failing in his Holy War against Jomsvikings. He also sired himself spare son to his heir (but he is on gavelkind). Ohh and we are now adjecent to newly established Cathar Finnish Kingdom of Suomi. Which fields impressive 45.000 troops (event troops inherited from rebelion).

With May we send some spies after our wife, keep assasinating barons and completely fail our stargazing. Well that's 2 out of 2 failed attempts to generate any technology points. We also have to issue another Chinese Scholar-Bureaucrat as previous died. It is immedietely remedied as we still have 15.000 grace. Our retinues reach full size thus we play minimal retinue upkeep (169). So finally somewhat recovered from ordeals befalling Permo-Siberia since previous AAR part. We also grant fresh Heretic Finnish King a Orthodox courtier as wife - maybe he will convert as he isn't Zealous. Would help us somewhat and given low Cathar MA (4%) it isn't impossible.

DgqxwWZ.jpeg

Family keeps on giving. Thus our Homosexual character has now Lover from opposite gender. Unlike inviting to stargaze.

Finally as we enter second half of year we revoke more titles without fearing consequences. We start with some bishops. While remembering this is a scrying opportunity. We get it twice but it seems it doesn't stack when it comes to duration. Still we fix at least one bishop. After second title revoked there is interesting decision to be made - I can let our bishop hold last temple and instead focus on revoking something else. But we will fall even further behind managing temple administration. He also is not exactly fond of us after depraving him of 2 holdings. So I roll to the end. Then I decide to revoke back barons that drifted away under different vassals. Then I start micromanaging 2 multi city vassals that we retrieved as they both are over the holding limit, sadly we still keep missing good mayors in previous target city. Right now we went from 7 stewardship to 0 stewardship character there. As we already maxed prosperity in Tynea there is little reason to keep our Marshal on training troops there is it? So we move him to Organise army again to improve our commanders and lower retinues upkeepk (down to 79g per year).

We get another occasion to de-age our character with Fountain of Youth. Most likely won't do this. Emperor Turush is 43 years old, while his favourite son is 2 years old. We totally can perfectly transition from one character into another. There are some downsides to this. We might lose truce timer with Mongols due to timing and if we lose initial war it might result in losing up to half of our Empire in quick succession.

Towards Autumn most of Smallpox vanishes. Our Empress gives birth to another Prince (Rayda) that is sickly. Our Court Physician is put to work. Before he can resolve the situation we get one of hospital events that demands us to pay 1.480 gold coins or. risk.. Our Court Physician get's slightly upset for next 5 years (-15). I will survive his tantrum - not paying so much for opinion ^^"..

40O0Dwa.jpeg

Our Stubborn emperor is on the roll with siring children. We won't be lacking in options

Year 1196
======================

With last year revocations my Permo-Siberian income surged up to +3.702g per year (and only 79g yearly expenses!). We splurge on few more Universities II in Siberia and Cumania and order a set of Castle Fortifications III acros duchy of Perm. It costs a little, increases our fort levels (securing more province wealth in case of raiding) and well is something for those holdings to build in the meantime. It drops us below 10.000 gold mark (we end up on 9.981g).

During February our Chinese Master-Engineer dies. We order another one from China and instantly force him to convert (to not waste our Patriarch conversions). Measle still haunts Perm but it didn't affect prosperity on the first glance. We still retain prosperity levels we had with just Minor protection from depopulation (level 2 hospitals).

Takes up to May for something to happen. Emperor starts writing new Theorem paper, then finally can embark on another ingredient gathering (which will enable us to get rid of Stressed) and Turush's loving wife becomes pregnant again. Well even with stressed and not getting "Family Man/Patriarch" we are still rocking +35% Fertility. High relations with spouse and especially lover gives even more. Soon she starts getting pregnancy cravings so we get event in which we pick gluttonous option cause each other might result in genetical defect to offspring. It also costs us around 170g but it is worth it.

Soon we get 3 more ingredients so we quickly brew "happy" potion, which without a fail cures Stressed. At this point we can change focus again. Not sure if there is a need. Extra health somewhat works as a backup and we are happy with Emperor's attributes, traits and education. Getting more dynasty members with all bloodlines also seems crucial and that +25% fertility surely will help achieve that. There are some options. Business may give me a chance at another trade route but not much else. Yea we can get some modifiers here and there but +2 Stewardship from lifestyle modifier ain't much. Rulership is similar - we don't really need Ambitious and Just. We have diligent. So the same +2 Stewardship is the main gain. On top of low chance of events probably helping. Learning might let us build Observatory for Stargazing bonuses but that's about that. We don't want most of traits that this event chain can give. Don't need Necronomicon either. Better chance at getting technology points isn't bad. Theology seems worse as we don't need to get rid of Lustful and don't need Zealous + Temperate. Both Learning focuses will help with "Summon the Divine being" event from Hermetic society in the future though (by making it more likely to happen). Martial focuses are not exactly bad. Well mostly War is not bad as it would allow us to start working on future commanders for coming wars. We do take some risk as we can get Wroth and/or Brave and injure some courtiers. But rolling for desired tactics and then giving them to our Scottish commanders is tempting. Hunting on other hand seems counter intuitivie as I just decided to not prolong this ruler life too much. Seduction we already were on and got everything we wanted. Which leaves Scheming and Carousing. Both could help us with adjusting vassals. Scheming opens up options for inheriting some gold but I think that the current pending case of courtiers with our mercenary band gold can be resolved without it. Carousing seems really great for me. We can start befriending vassals (especially our city vassals) one by one and then utilize tyranny a little more, as with +100 opinion from being friends we have more room to manouver without it affecting our vassal tax. It's really close but I will remain on Family for now. Carousing seems like good plan for long reign that seems to be materializing on our next ruler.

We have another sickness outbreak in Novgorod. This time it is Consumption and we hope it never reaches us. At least Measle was finally contained. We raise our levies and start thinking about weakening our vassals somewhat more.

Somewhat reluctant to put much work with Mongols on the horizon yet it might help against them. With just 20 years remaining we might now do the same we did in Syria - appoint high Martial Counts to boost levy bonuses from counties.

Starting with Duke of Tobol that holds 2 counties on western side of Ural mountains. I plan to keep extracting his vassal (thanks Imperial Bureaucracy) one by one as this method antogonizes just single vassal. As we wait for levies to assemble in November, one of two over the demense super burghers dies thus our handpicked candidate takes over. We still have to kill the other one (so far we failed twice in killing him). But for now to my suprise Duke Tobol gives away all of his vassals. Well that went unexptectedly nice. He still is excommunicated so we will antagonize him anyway but now we have far less rebels to deal with.

So we just wait for our armies to move. Whenever new child arrives in our court we sent him immedietely to "Become Scottish" education camp. Right now 8 such kids are in the making. Which should be enough to at least produce one or two viable commanders to utilize. Oh and another son to Imperial couple is born:

JVJrArd.jpeg

I might not use all of them as Bishops. We can make some bethrothals to take over whole vassal duchies. I spot one such occasion in Zyriane duchy (Perm). As our prestige is high enough it allows us to directly marry into taking over those lands. So we start seeding our spare bloodline holders.

Year 1197
======================

With over 13.000 gold coins, we have +3.718 gold coins of income but -871g of expenses (levies raised). One thing I forgot to take into consideration was - weather. Thus we began our extraction war perfectly in severe winter =3". Well but Duke of Tobol is already rising up his armies so no choice but to continue. We at least can move onto rebel county in Cheremisia with retinues from Burtasy unopposed.

In February our Emperor becomes the target of seduction attempt of one of our vassals. We let him know it will never happen. Right now the last thing we need is another scandal to push negative opinion of Emperor over the edge. This will help with female courtiers opinion of Turush as "Rejecting sexual advances" modifier works on them. Not sure what good it does to us despite more plotters but hey - it's the little things that count. Still after 5 attempts we could not kill that 6 intrigue mayor despite having 700%+ plot power @.@. We do keep retracting vassals but after a while we slow down. Then we get a chance of getting Charitable trait from "Emaluating Saint Varaka event". We give it a pass - not really too keen on having another Saint (and we would need to get rid of Lustful for that) so I would rather have some room for emergency trait.

With start of April our rebel ex-vassal suprises me as he callsto arms Duke of Veliky Ustug, that we also started weakening in preparation for his own "adjustment". Well don't mind if I do! We can easily deal with him and we wanted to revoke from him anyway.

cpdXtcL.jpeg

Answering that call to war wasn't wise but they don't know that they were doomed anyway. Didn't retract all the Veliky-Ustug vassal though. Also sweet melee countering in battle.

We sacrifice some of 2.000 retinues to force a battle with main enemy army, thus our main force can enter into melee. Luckily one of our wings counters their center tactics and thus deals unholy 2506 casualties in single day 8D. We lose 600 troops (including sacrificial army) but kill over 4.700. More importantly on our 9th attempt we finally get rid of old Mayor Yirkap of Kumay and our candidate takes over. My dear God it took way longer that I expected!

In the mid of Summer Vologda converts back to Orthodoxy from heresy it was afflicted with. Job well done by our vassals. Our war progress goes toward +57% as we march to take over last few holdings in Tobol duchy. Not sure if it will be enough. Precautiously I moved my main retinue stack from Perm towards Veliky Ustug and we started besieging 2 holdings belonging to rebel Duke there. Hope for being able to force them into surrender soon.

After taking over 3 Tobol counties and one Veliky-Ustug castle we just need single skirmish with remnants of previous rebel army to go from 97% to 100% warscore. Thus before Autumn we conclude first war, revoke as many things as we can and then embark on second such escapade. Soon both duchy titles get destroyed as we try to get rid of last holdings in possession of previous rebels.

Then till the end of year we fight rebels but not without some hiccups. Administrative hiccups - as I revoke second holding from vassal that answered call to war I realise too late that it is with tyranny. So this way I increase my tyranny malus from -45 to -60. Yikes! Enemy holdings still constantly fold under pressure from our armies and quickly warscore climbs to 69%. Precautiously I give out some bribes. Also our Pet Owl dies and we lose that extra +Learning/health modifier.

sOUsPfR.jpeg

It was something AI Turush procured for himself via Hermetic scrying. Was nice but I think we can do without it.

Year 1198
======================

New year greets us with 15.300 gold coins, +3.732 annual income and 1.051 expenses. Unexpected depression due to potion of eudaimonia backfiring too. We will have to make another one to remedy this situation. As we sacrifice another 2 ingredients, our character notices that his wife is sick as well. Just a flu. But we order our court Physician to see to it. Soon treatment turns out to be succesful and our child making quest can continue.

Just as we finally clear Mayor in Tynea, another dies further north in Perm province. Well this time at least we can use one of 2 converted Jews for this, so it should be easier to remedy. One of them we assign to single city in Udmurts for replacement for local old mayor to be already in place.

Then I click through our realm and spent another 5.000 gold coins on Universities II. In one of Khanty counties we spot "stone quarry" modifier (from business focus), which is really nice as it saves even more gold. With that we are slowly beginning to run out of possible Universities to build. The final level of that building is locked behind final technology level, which is somewhat counter intuitive. It forces us to focus on "Cities and Temples" technology category first, if we want to use that final +30% technology spread. Otherwise we would not benefit much for that costly building unlocked quickly before end of game.

By Summer news from China arrive - Emperor changes again. Unlucky for us this is 5th in a row Expansionist China Ruler. Meaning we wasted our Mjollnir deal and weren't able to cash on that Invasion to shatter some realm in the Middle-East. Well... shame. We might need it, cause Syria starts suffering rebelions. Lost one small duchy to one, but the other one for Jerusalem is more of a problem - just look how much troops do they have:

vwjZefk.jpeg

Damn you China! Why won't you let me use you? Also daaamn my setting on rebellions is sometimes crazy. Underestimated that this could happen x].

This might be able to jeopardize our efforts but there is something good overall - Byzantine Empire is once again under Orthodox rule. Not fully (all Orthodox holy sites within their borders are under Catholics) but it is at least something. So even if Syria sinks, Byzantines should be able to expand into rebel realm. Still the religion situation within everyone favourite purple blob remains to be closely monitored as quite a few important vassals remain Catholic. Also Syrian Greeks managed to converts most of northern Syria to Orthodoxy, which with low Sunni Moral Authority will be difficult to convert back. Meaning that Orthodox Rebels might play Uno reverse card in the future.

Going back to more domestic matters I spot that we are able to invite widow of our ex-mercenary captain back to our court. Her next husband died so we can hasten the inheriting process somewhat. We already had his inheriting son in our court but we can invite to excommunicate and banish her. That would give us back our 21.000+ gold coins from centuries of Permian Band working.

Our assasinations finally succeed in fixing Cherdyn city (Perm county). Our superior Orthodox Ashkenazi character takes over and what a steward he is. With 26 Stewardship he reaches 55 State Stewardship meaning +110% Tax! Translates to roughly 120g income from single city despite it only having level 4 income building (basically quadrupling holding income). As just moments before spotting our previously mentioned rich widow I ordered excommunication on some vassal in eastern part of empire we can't proceed with extraction yet.

By October our mayor from Udmurts dies so we can start working on fixing that place. Will take more than single assasination because as people placed there were relatives of some khagan, they now refuse our marriage proposals. We also lose steward as he was the mayor that just died. We replace him with another vassal - Jewish burgher with 26 stewardship and sent him to continue researching economic technology in Irgiz.

Before end of year another mayor dies (this time in Kudymkar) and we have another issue to fix. Also small Bolghar nomads cross the border into Bolgharia to raid, loot around 24% of province wealth before Retinues from Burtasy catch them.

Year 1199
======================

Year starts with our retinues slowly trashing bolgharian raiders. We have exactly 13.000 gold in reserve, +3.974 annual income but 814 annual expenses. Will probably go even higher after the fight as we will need 1-2 months of replenishment. Our main retinue force did replenish from halfway to 5.000 out of 6.900 troops. With pace of recovering 170 men per month it will still take a little more than a year to reach full status.

By February we start preparations for operation "Mercenary funds": we order excommunication itself, set the marshal to help with arrest (+20% success chance) and await. Within few days Consumption breaks out in Bashkiria duchy (to the south of Ural). That's -40% income tax on those two counties. Our capital in Tynea is adjecent to it and has exactly 1% disease resistance (cause it is at highest prosperity). Let's see how it turns out.

OS8AIyW.jpeg

Finally our rightfully earned money came back. This will make for good chunk of funds in fighting the nomads.

The only downside to whole extraction is that we lost -20% retinue upkeep cost modifier from Marshal's job for few months. Basically costing us 200g per month till end of July. Not the end of world but still somewhat substantial. Soon it drops to 768g a year as our retinues from Burtasy reach 100% manpower.

With May we get Orthodox exclusive event - an icon. We roll a diplomatic one for the first time. I'm not too keen on that offer - over 950g for +1 base diplomacy is somewhat expensive. We already sired children so that won't translate across generation and we are not wanting for diplomacy (19). Soon we get succesful assasination and send away our last Ashkenazi character. Time to invite more. One interesting thing is that we currently have 100% county religion conversion chance with our Permo-Siberian Patriarch despite Orthodoxy currently hovering around 85% MA. Yet our "Subject conversion chance" is only 90%. Rare case when I would want it the other way around.

Consumption spreads to Perm and Udmurts as well as 2 eastern counties in Bolgharia. Soon 4 out of 5 invited characters arrive and one of them gets instantly converted :). We also get 25 Stewardship French Catholic that converts after being bribed so we have 2 more targets to be converted.

In August we provoke duke of Komi (more in name as he only has single county in Mari duchy) with our retinues from Burtasy already parked on top of his holding. Somehow what was consumption turned to camp fever and as I didn't seclude ours court we get punished for it. Our genius son (Prince Aymort) gets severe case of Camp Fever for total of -6 health. Soon our Court Physician offers Mild treatment (+1 health) and things suddenly loook alot worse.

Soon after in September our Court Tutor gets the same sickness but at least after shutting the gates Empress Zaynab is again pregnant. We get an update on Prince Aymort horoscope of stars favouring him and decide to leave it to the fate. Sickness kills quickly few courtiers including 5 out 8 children in Scottish class.

Sadly at at end of October our Genius Prince Aymort dies due to Camp Fever :/.

E66UoRK.jpeg

Nuuuuuuuuuu! Give me back my Genius heir!

Year 1200
======================

Last year for this part starts with us having 36.800 gold. Don't get too giddy though. As between epidemy and winter Perm gets -6 supplies thus our reinforcing there retinues have to evacuate. They can't do it in time and get cut down from 5.800 down to 3.570... DAMN! That's another year of reinforcing =.=.

Epidemy continues to ravage our court. Our Nenetsian King dies due to Camp Fever on 12th of March meaning his carefully stacked (by us) realm splits into two >.>. Some more Mayors die and we get up to 4 characters that need fixing. At the moment we can't progress as everyone is secluded which slows or stops entirely schemes.

On 19th of April 5th son to Emperor Turush is born. He is sickly and sadly not a genius. Well we will utilize him. For now he will be known as Prince Oshmar but maybe later he will become Prince-Bishop or something like that. Then week later Bishop Shypicha of Perm (brother of Emperor) dies and I realise that Camp Fever managed to completely obliterate all 5 Monastic characters there xD. RIP my monastic administration I suppose. We get another family event with our oldest child and only daughter. While I care little for +15 opinion for 20 years it finally gives us "Family Man" modifier granting us further +10% Fertility.

Having nothing better to do we make horoscope for youngest child (we roll diplomacy again) as our doctor somewhat helps him (doesn't remove sickly but gives him timely modifier). We also conclude Komi extraction thus can give back Duchy to one of vassals physically located in Komi and settle another high Martial vassal in Mari county itself. Camp Fever inflict Minor depopulation in Bashkiria. Luckily nothing as dreadful in our personal demense thanks to level 2 hospitals offering at the very least minor protection from depopulation (at this point I regret not pumping more into hospital levels instead of all the fancy adds). More concerning is that our ruler develops Rash... Oh boy!

More events arrive and this one is iffy. Our Steward reports to us some tunnels under the castle. Smells like assasination attempt. Yet this steward is quite new one, likes us a lot (74 opinion) and is paragon of virtues. We do investigate it and due to curiosity I do explore this event without stepping away. Might be very bad decision on my part. At the same time our symptoms develop into our own Camp Fever. Seems we might not live long anyway so let's check this event.

V8tuVcs.jpeg

Curiosity takes better of me. In the end our Paranoid ruler simply had to known!

Despite my better judgment Emperor Turush fights off peasant rebels while suffering from camp fever. Quite a pity as I would love to use that female courtier to marry her to one of our vassals. Not sure what triggered this event as it was my first time seeing it. On other hand Camp Fever turns mild. We were really unlucky as out of 5 Turush children only our Genius son caught it and it seems he rolled 5% for worst outcome - Bedridden =.=. Might decide to use fountain of Youth because right now we might want to look for another Genius character to play as. There is chance oldest Prince (Arnaz) will become shrewd but time will tell. Or any of his brothers

To my suprise Toyaska 'The Silent" is still free within our court. Somehow we can't imprison her despite all that peasant attack us business. Maybe this event chain is still ongoing? Also the Cynical we got from it is our 6th trait so we are on the limit. Interestingely it can help us with turning Curious into Shrewd if we make tutored child Cynical first from other trait. To ensure that we would have to give up Diligent from intervention at 14.5 years of age by assigning 12+ Intrigue tutor instead. We have perfect test subject for that - Princess Sernyava (13 years old) once we give her from Court Tutor to Empress Zaynab (who meets the tutor requirement).

7oR77zR.jpeg

Well that will teach me to close the gates instantly in the future. Still we have aftermath to deal with.

Quickly before end of this part we also heal from Camp Fever meaning we are more likely to keep on living for now. Well previous good treatment definetely helped but that whole Typhus outbreak surely complicated our plans.

m8YX5U6.jpeg

Ugh! Due to Camp Fever (-40% income in most of our personal demense) income really took a temporary hit...

Paradox games in a nutshell.

Crusader Kings: Genius heir gets a disease and sometimes dies, drunk spare with great pox inherits.
Europa Universalis: 6/6/6 heir often dies from an event, replaced by a 0/0/0 one who inherits and goes on to rule until he's 70.

Strange though that seclusion didn't work for you. Usually it works great for me, and people only die if it infects my capital before I could shut the gates.

Not the worst outcome, one of my rulers ended up getting mangled as a result of it and plenty have lost a limb.

Additional Comment on worldstate: Worldstate slowly rippens. Starting from British Isles - religious turmoil slowly reaches it's end with Catholic Irish and Welsh taking over Scotland and England respectively. All it took was for Holy Roman Empire to take Kent (and holy site in Cantenbury). So the Kingdom of Brythoniaid you saw in honorable mention is that Welsh realm under apply named 'the Sword of Jesus" king Maelgwn. Which left Cathars in Iberian penninsula quite isolated. Still Matiyid Sultanate consolidated into Empire of Hispania that also stretches across Maghreb into Ghana. To the east they share a border with both Byzantines in Barcelona and new Kingdom of Burgundy that splitted from HRE. Thus big Catholic blob in the western Empire splitted into two French ruled halves - one under King Godefroy II from house de Champagne and other mentioned previously Empress Guillaumette "the Apostle" from house de Moselle. Northern Italy managed to get itself under rule of Orthodx Khazar from Bukhal (not sure which of 2 Khaganates that share this name south of our borders). Nomads really can't resist themself from encroaching onto Italy in this playthrough, can't they? At least this time it was through marriage. It might be brief though as they suffer huge revolt to overthrow them by Paulician Italians. Rome at least liberated itself by Catholic Italian rebels. That leaves German Croatia that pivoted from Catholicism (planted there by Crusader dynasty of von Kufsteins we had previously interacted with) to Orthodoxy just as Greek Empire started throwing a tantrum. They did slowly expand north through Slovakia and Bohemia into eastern Poland. Kind of dividing Christianity in Europe across Oder river and Austra between Catholics and Orthodox. North of described places we had briefly big Lithuania that imploded due to getting sponsored baptism into Orthodoxy. Still it left religion there thus leaving only kingdoms of Novgorod and Ruthenia as last pagan realms in the region (as ERE pushed from balkans towards kingdom of Crimea and Galicia-Volhynia). Scandinavia was more interesting as we had huge Reformed Germanic Jomsvikings realm in southern Norwey and Sweden (that couldn't create kingdom title due to being of Holy Order goverment type) but got repelled by Cathar Finnish liberation revolt, which recaptured most of de jure Finland. Oh and Denmark is controlled by Teutonic Order that failed in it's northern Crusade to claim Novgorod. Nomads to the south of our Empire weakened further and mostly converted to Orthodoxy to avoid our vassals, which at this point are capable of expanding our realm despite having only single counties. After our Syrian intervention, trio of Orthodox rising powers pushed east towards Baghdad (Persian Daylam, Armenia and Greek Syria created by us). It was good opportunity to dislodge Muhallabids with around 50% decadence as they suffered Crusade against Egypt (thus quickly losing a lot of their realm). Egypt got under de Moselle dynasty rule, planting Catholic help there but also preventing most likely Byzantine Empire from unifying Christianity. They got so upset that they temporarily switched to Catholicism (not like this!) that wrecked our religion MA. Thus Muslims got pushed towards Abyssinia, Arabia and south-eastern Persia. Sadly shortly before this report our Syrian Kingdom suffered huge religious revolt in levant (126.000 troops!) and thus new Levantine Sunni Hamid Sultanate was created in Jerusalem and Syria. Most of Jerusalem is still in Greek hands and Jerusalem itself is under Knights of Santiago holy order. Also northern Syria got converted to Orthodoxy so we can expect (sooner or later) another big uprising - this time of Orthodox Levantines. Lastly in the far East - Western Protectorate kept collecting tributaries under long streak of Expansionist Emperors with southern India briefly being independent as well as Mongolia breaking away just in time before some famous Conqueror shows up. They did manage to subjugate Tocharian Jains from kingdom of Ytarimypoy with whom we share border on the Silkroad.

I can confirm that How to build a Well is indeed one of the Stewardship books you can get after writing em as my Rurikid character got them

As @TWR97 mentioned this is the actual name of book. No variants to it (contrary to "On [Culture] Architecture" that I'm still failing to get). Previously I recorded it wrongly as I read it "How to build well" instead of it's true name.
Folks in Amalfi being quite impressive.
They are kingdom level Merchant Republic, owning half of Italy (mostly South but also Mediolan and then... Barcelona). They have been at it for over 100 years. Outcompeting Venezia that can't catch a break cause it is still being semi regularly looted. All other Merchant Republics got destroyed. Amalfi was also one of main backers for Catholic lobby in Eastern Roman Empire.

Part LIII (1201-1208)

Rmy1Gn3.jpeg

Part LIII (1201-1208)

Year 1201
======================

After literal wrecking ball (in shape of Camp Fever outbreak) went through our plans and dreams we start another part waiting for chaos to wind down. That epidemic did some damage since it is active. First of all we are down to 5 out of 8 kids that were on Scottish assimilation program. Then we have 4 over the limit mayors and 3 over the limit bishops. Just as replacements for our future human resources arrive, another city vassal bites the dust (5th one to fix).

After greeting new arrivals into our courts and arranging some marriages the fundaments for restoration are laid down. Now we only need for Camp Fever to vanish (it started vanishing in February (leaving our Capital) and by March it only affects counties of Perm, Kudymkar and Udmurts. Sickness still kills people though - resolving one city problem for us (as we still can't proceed with assasinations due to being secluded) but it also bring my attention to young countess that takes over lands of our recently deceased Spymaster. She is Genius and we can absolutely bethroth her to our oldest son to alleviete lack of smart traits in the future. Beside that I also opt to marry our niece to Prince and Heir to Holy Roman Empire as their Empress has really great opinion of our homosexual ruler due to his seduction skills. We also bribe future Emperor and thus military alliance with house de Moselle is created. This means around 30.000 allies for the foreseeable future.

tr0xIa2.jpeg

Even though HRE splitted into two, it's still valuable alliance. Paying 640 to prolong it in the future is fair price for levies of HRE that they themself will have to sustain.

Unlucky in April the same city that the Camp Fever fixed, suffers another death meaning we returned to starting point. Then we have to wave off several vassals demanding transfer of their de jure baronies under them but due to high enough diplomacy we can (and do) impress them with vague promises. Then the news from China arrives - unexpectedly Emperor died and for first time since ages ago we have not Expansionist Emperor. His current policy is Open and China is stable meaning we finally can cash in that remaining grace. It costs only 5.000 grace to my suprise (expected much more) but there is not many good targets (unless we want to delete Byzantines after they returned to Orthodoxy). We can targets Muhallabids but I will think about it more before commiting. Maybe new Syrian Sultanate manages to get big enough to suffer Chinese invasion?

Wisely in May when almost all of counties are no longer affected by sickness I change our assasination target to someone that is not secluded (thus we can proceed). Emperor himself embarks on hunt for more ingredients for Hermetic society and we will start writing another theorem paper after that (as previous modifier will time out soon). We also go to Fountain of Youth to de-age Turush. Now that we no longer have Genius heir in the waiting we can as well live as long as possible (on our perfect Prosperity ruler).

Soon we get our first hit with daggers and number of problem mayors goes down by 1. We then start working on next one but it will take some tim. In the meantime I order construction of Castle Towns V across duchy of Perm, as with our high stewardship and various province bonuses they should pay for itself within 40-50 years (which is not bad). We also come back from herb gathering with 5 ingredients, which is the best result up to date (not counting bugged double gatherings)

ys2jX0G.jpeg

No time to lose - we should be building. Ordered few more University II across realm and we are now really close to having those almost everywhere. The sooner we get them the more we can spread the technology across steppes!

Last few months are spent on slowly assasinating through all candidates in city courts to finally place our handpicked characters, receiving information about fate favouring our son Rayda in his diplomatic interests and most of our Castle Town finishing being builit. Our retinues fully replenish, which cuts down on our expenses (from 600g to 79g). One of children in court assimilated into Scottish culture and we wed other Scottish commander to make even more potential commanders for the future.

Year 1202
======================

With 36,957 gold coins and almost exactly 3.500 coins of net annual profit, incoming year seems promising. By February we fix another lackluster city vassal (love having 900-1000% plot power) leaving us with just 2 important assasinations to perform and 2 more optional (not over the limit but really low stewardship).

As winter slowly trudges toward spring we lose 2 more good (and old) city vassals and after assigning 1 replacement in the waiting I run out of possible high stewardship characters. We really need our Patriarch to start converting those Ashkenazis (90% per year chance), as those are probably the last such characters (we really depleted their stocks within diplomatic range). At least our smart Patriarch is doing something

2Ixo2q7.jpeg

That +opinion is really great given our high tyranny strategy at the moment. Prosperity is already maxed so it is less of an option.

Our heir turns 12, which enables us to introduce him to realm for some prestige and opinion boosts (thanks to "Groom an heir" ambition). We also give him for further education under his mother (cause she can give him only Cynical trait at 14.5 years of age thus increasing chances of getting shrewd from Curious, if it doesn't develops before). That guardianship gives us -10 vassal opinion for educating heir with foreign culture, as his Muhallabid mother is Bedouin. Ok change of plans - we need his mother (if stars align) only assigned at 14 years of age. For now we can give him to one of Komi vassals to turn Playful into Gregarious (Deceitful isn't bad yet extra vassal opinion is premium for our strategy, cause each +15 means additional tyranny hit we can take). We will closely monitor his progress and act accordingly depending on how the cookie crumbles.

We also pass another (somewhat late due to forgetting about it) law change. Once again I find myself in situation of not being able to invest in future with re-establishing council to halve reforms cooldown (we are at 11/11 demense limit). So instead we opt to increase military obligations of our feudal vassals. As we are the sole deciding party for this change, it goes smoothly and soon we enjoy close to 3.000 additional troops from our vassals. It's great moment to also start writing Magnum Opus as among possible results health increasing book is possible. That could prolong Emperor's Turush 'the Mule" reign somewhat and we are stockpiling hermetic currency massively.

Like increasing those levy obligations as this leaves more gold in feudal vassal pockets improving their pace of infrastructure upgrades slightly.

As summer begins, we get another prosperity occasion - this time in Kolva. Initially wanted to turn it down but Kolva (along Perm) are still at level 2 prosperity so we actually want that prosperity. We also succeed again with assasination and another city problem vanishes. Out of desperation I invite some barely acceptable Orthodox characters (15 and 14 stewardship) to send them to city courts on our list. We are really scrapping the barrel and there is no way for us to currently even think about furthering our bishopric administration. Part of the problem is that due to all religious unrest lately, Orthodox Moral Authority dived from 100% to 74% and with it our ability to convert characters. Funny enough due to Saintly bloodlines we still have 90% chance of converting provinces - one time I wish it was the other way around x].

On 7th of October another unskilled Mayor bites the dust which leaves us with 4 potential targets (and still 3 bishops). At least it improves our annual income over 3.700. It's the little things that count in life! We also get to finally select topic of our Magnum Opus. Picked Alchemy as not only it grants both Stewardship and Learning but Quality 3 and 4 outcomes have 50% chance for +health variant of book (+0.5 and +1 respectively). As previous round of construction ends it's time to continue with upgrading cultural building towards last levels:

qnjLOPf.jpeg

8 Another buildings. We really are building up our heavy infantrymen :)

By November another kid finishes his Scottish class assignemt and our Marshal finds quite nice commander - Hunter, Defender with Patient and 20 Martia attribute value. Then I finally embark on our available again revocation with tyranny. Given lack of personnel to spend it on temples decided to just revoke 2 cities in Burtasy to fully relocate ownership of them towards our newest city vassal in Udmurts. That just 2 revocations (and I forgot my scrying but let it be for now). Also decide to brew Eudaimonia potions for 2 older Mayors (56 and 62), that are stressed to somewhat ease our current woes. It helps so finger crossed. Our Heir also already developed Gregarious from Playful so we switch him under us for time being. Want to note that no "Introduce heir to the realm" happen despite us having many Count, Duke and King level vassals. Not sure why.

Year 1203
======================

Not much changes in our treasury compared to previous year as we kept spending. We start another date with another family event increasing relations between Prince Rayda and Zhebeg by +15 for 30 years. Sadly it doesn't improve our "Family Man (+10% Fertility) modifier to "Family Patriarch". We do tinker a little with extracting some vassals and even taking another tyranny hit (up to -45) for fixing duchy of Ob. Slowly things are getting under control. We do have rather interesting development related to death of Emperor's male lover. We eagerly go with the flow counting on getting that "Lover's Memento" for +0.5 health. We are offered option to pick topic of our Magnum Opus (which I didn't know you can pick) so as previously stated we go with Universal Panaceum for that long reign plan.

zg79wT7.jpeg

Sadly it seems we don't roll on that nice modifier :< Also never trust any Oshkamoshka. We had one such rival in the past (also our best commander) and to this day we have her skull trophy in our dynasty treasury. They are all (probably) evil!

On 8th of March our last tribal vassal finally feudalised. Took ages cause we were upgrading his prestige buildings on top of him lacking gold to upgrade required castle line building on his own. Then we lose one of mayors for whom we brewed happy potions (well he was 60+ and was infirm) but luckily his replacement has 14 stewardship thus after we marry him it will be a-ok income wise. It wouldn't be Siberian AAR if nomads didn't visit us again - this time over 2.400 strong host arrived in Saur. We have our Pikeboys just province to the west so it's time for battle. Oh and shortly before that we assasinated another Mayor, thus lowering our to-kill list to just 3 names.

16Ab1WU.jpeg

Season of nomadic bands is officially open. Another incursion happened near Burtasy but didn't realise I didn't select proper Battle Menu.

First battle opens as expected - with Shieldwall. Luckily hostile commanders are subpar so we didn't encounter any narrow flank. Still our current anti-mongol setup is bad, when put against small raiding bands - we take so long to enter melee that we route enemy center with shieldwall... On other side of empire near Burtasy nomadic scum also shows up - we deal with them in the same way (except it is easier thanks to lower number of raiders to remove). Whole ordeal ends with way less losses that expected (around 120). Pleasant suprise.

More importantly on 7th of June our ruler finishes his Magnum Opus. He creates quality 4 book, that will prove useful relatively soon. But not yet as keeping other 4 books in use for now is not that risky and it generates us some money on top of higher vassal opinion. We also lose our Patriarch and upon replacing him I decide on split with 26 Learning Patriarch and 19 Learning but better trait Court Physician.

swsY5hA.jpeg

Rarely was I using Magnum Opus as I prefer regular books due to their lower requirements. This can be really useful as sometimes increasing health past some treshold allows to heal some persisting symptoms or sicknesses.

By September noticed that our daughter (Princess Sernyava) didn't turn out as we wanted. While she was granted both Deceitful and Cynical, her curious didn't evolve into shrewd. Yet our wife became Paranoid (listed as cost for her intervetion on wiki). Hummm... At least another kid become Scottish. The oldest members of that program already can embark on starting their military curricullum so we assign them tutors better suited to their trait development. At the very least we completely established our own source of Orthodox Scottish characters so next generation should be much better (not longer having to convert them in first period of their childhood). We also intervene in education of future King of Nenetsia - Setyamka (that is bethrothed to our daughter). We make him Diligent at cost of Stressed trait. That put's us at 11/10 demense limit so second last ingredient is spent on fixing that (as we lost both scrying and divine epiphany due to them timing out meaning +3 to all stats less).

Year 1204
======================

Next Anno Domini starts with 39.600+ gold coins in treasury and +3.800 annual income (but still 100 annual expenses). We cut down bad administrators from 6 to 2 but our problems persist. Despite our high learning Patriarch we only have around 68% yearly chance of converting any courtier. We haven't converted anyone since this part started so our Ashkenazis slowly age without providing us anything out of value =<.

In February another Nomadic band lose their way into our borders. From Mongolia again. There is less than 2.000 of them so our troops will deal with them. We quickly catch up to them and start training our new 12 Martial Scottish commander. Previously one of those battles generates us terrain trait (on commander who already was Direct Leader).

Jww7Y9U.jpeg

This time those are our enemies that get unlucky with tactic selection. Most importantly - no narrow flanks!

Battle goes predictably and we don't develop any new traits on our commander. We at least get rid of another Mayor after scrapping the barrel even more - this leaves me with just 1 mayor to replace for higher income instead of getting rid of over the demense limit penalty. We embark on it anyway. It's also high time to change our focus as I don't think that after hitting 35 years our wife will produce any additional offsprings. Was deciding between War and Hunting. War would allow us to create anti-mongol commanders but it might take way more than 5 years (and it also has plethora of new traits that could mess us up). So to be safe I pick Hunting already (the more time there is the better chance of developing for example Brawny for even more +health). Hunting dog lasts around 10 years so with that we should ensure another 10 years of ruling.

Our Alliances suddenly ends in July. Firstly I think that Empress finally died but no. She is fine. So is her son that our niece was bethothed to. But he somehow managed to become celibate (yet still is heir). Upon further inspection turns out he became member of holy order (despite not being Zealous). Thus after getting involved into their holy war for East Anglia we got nothing out of it. Good thing I didn't put any effort in marching troops myself. Well this opens up new options. First we recall our 19 years old niece from Holy Roman Empire and then we match her to heir of new Catholic Byzantine Emperor. Cause they finally united so if I can't have religious authority then at least I want their army (up to 60.000 troops). They should also make for much more reliable allies than Western "Romans". There is also something to note about our long time nemesis - Muhallabids. There is no hiding that due their collapse there is little reason for us to continue our breeding program. In the end it didn't do anything (well by end we realised that we can force them back to join other muslim realms so maybe that would help; especially when/if they were ruled by child lacking option to straighten out decadent family members,) as they collapsed due to our own military intervention in Syria and Crusade against Egypt. Right now they are getting finished by Crusader Egypt in Abbysinia. So we can evict most of our Muhallabids to make some room for more Scottish characters and make sure our conversion always end up on Ashkenazi characters. Also it makes my outliner much shorter =D! Thus the only Muhallabid remaining in Permo Siberia is Empress Zaynab.

69Dy9M6.jpeg

Islam definetelly took the beating in last century. Whole mediterrean sea is now Christian lake. They still have some lands in Northern Africa, East Africa, Arabia and eastern Persia but that's it.

August starts with last step in adjusting another multi city vassal. I'm kind of amazed how quickly we get it under control given how big of a mess it was. Still we are now out of potential bullets for future problems. Orthodox moral authority won't get high anytime soon.

With September another Epidemy breaks out in Ural and instantly jumps to our demense in Kolva >.>. Slow fever is another -40% income province modifier. Having learned my lesson I instantly seclude ourselves within castle. It seems we might want to bite the costs of upgrading our hospitals cause so far those plagues have ravaged our income too much. Quickly after we get another prosperity opportunity (picking up smart councillors really pays off) - this time in Perm. Extra taxing seems nice but I counted and it won't pay for itself. So it is more of an discount really for those +6 prosperity points there. Not sure if the incoming sickness won't zero prosperity - I buy it anyway.

Z8xzPcc.jpeg

Those modifiers would be nicer if they lasted for longer. Like that they just might help us to max briefly economic stats to look nice in reports.

As year nears it's end I realise that we got lucky - our heir did develop shrewd so now he shapes out interestingely: Shrewd + Gregarious and we still can give him either Ambitious/Diligent or Patient. Giving him Diligent will be a safe choice. If we get greedy we might pick Patient and then put him on Rulership for Diligent, Ambitious and Just. I'm just happy that we got that "smart" trait cause there are few ways to develop it outside of genetics and education. Turns out we won't probably need to keep his father alive as long as possible after all.

Year 1205
======================

Almost 43.000 gold and +3.678/-99 yearly income/expenses. Not bad especially as we once again are hurting due to sickness ravaging our economy. Time to spend a little to beef up our castle levies. After just maxing Barracks (for now) and cultural specific buildings it's time to think of different structure. As I prefer to first construct buildings granting flat number of troops the choice is between Stables and Militia Grounds. Given our infantry centric strategy Militia Ground it is (as Stable could lead us to worse tactics in the near future). But that's not all - we also should start thinking about finishing those features in newest 2 great works - within decade we once again will be eligible for "Town is born" event granting extra slots in Perm and Kudymkar counties. Despite Great Palace and Great University having some really neat options we invest in generic - Great Roads. That extra movement speed will help minimize damage that raiding groups cause to us.

Gz8fj7D.jpeg

Eight instances of Militia Grounds III + one Castle Town III and 2 Great Works Features leave us with just over 37.5 thousand coins.

During surveying of our realm in February I spot that somehow one of cities in Ayakoz county (duchy of Tarbagatai by Silkroad) drifted away to... Kingdom of Lithuania. Well that's not nice! Will have to fight them for it in the near future to retake that Polish controlled city. Moments later another difficulty arises as my retinues diligently moved away from Perm to Sibir duchy can't start extracting operation. Our target even though excommunciated is hiding. Upon searching through list of 56 ongoing in empire plots I localise the one targetting our good duke Yirkap of Sibir. We send demand to end it, so our next victim preferably comes out of hiding allowing us to arrest him on the grounds of being bad Christian.

This doesn't result in expected success immedietely as by April he still remains in hiding. Maybe it has longer intervals between checking to change? Then upon waiting some more he stops hiding in May so we launch our whole intrigue. Luckily he revolts on our first try, thus we are in business immedietely. Additionally our kinsmen King Setyamka II of Nenetsia comes out of age. Despite being diligent he turned out to be just level 2 stewardship education. He ask at once for hand of our daughter and we grand him her in matrilinear marriage (to spread the bloodlines). He then celebrates becoming adult with declaring Holy War on Bryansk, that fragmented into single counties from under Rus kingdom. Well this probably will end with success and is definetely one way to spend honeymoon.

6DgS046.jpeg

As we have everything in place it should be brief affair. On other hand Setyamka II is probably our most attractive kinsmen - both Attractive and Groomed. You wouldn't think that given his potrait (most likely due to being sturdy).. But that's what "Peak Attractive Male performance" in medieval times looks like. One would even say he is crazy hot (as he is lunatic)!

Rest of year is spent on slowly siegeing out Sibir rebels (we manage to capture both top castle holdings in those counties before end of december). We still have to take over temples there. Slow Fever persist towards end of 1205 and shows no signs of letting go. As a consolation prize my previous choice in picking smart councillors finally pays off - first marshall offers choice between +10% Morale or +10% levies in capital. I pick levies. Then Chancellor offers much more impactful options - either +25 Feudal or City vassal opinion. That's really great, as we could use both. Decide to pick City opinion as we have few burghers not paying 100% taxes. Sadly those are only for a year. Still it is something! All of our castle constructions manage to end within year which is nice. Our Nenetsian vassal also rampages through Bryansk rapidly acquiring 73% warscore with his 4.000 strong army. Well done AI, well done =].

Year 1206
======================

Next year in chronicle and we have 40.800+ gold coins to our name with +3.772/-512 annual income/expenses. Well those Great Construction cost somewhat. Still this is not bad. Last year we also lost one good multi-bishop in Bolgharia. That will haunt me for quite some time as our temple administration is in tatters. What's worse due to being secluded our Patriarch rocks amazing 0% chance of converting. Ugh! Well moving onto more acceptable topic - we once again can do construction round across Castles. We quite rapidly are starting to run out of desired things to construct but I decide to bite the proverbial bullet and also upgrade Hospital main building to level III in our capital Duchy (6 times total). We really need to be not constantly eating -25/-40% negative income modifiers in our demense. Not to mention losing our handpicked administrators prematurely.

XgLR1wu.jpeg

Another 7 Training Grounds III (with one more to be made soon) and 6 Hospitals III leaves us with just over 36.8 thousands gold.

Expended Sick Houses improve our actual disease resistance from 1% to 11% and depopulation protection from minor to medium. That's not enough but at the very least should somewhat alleviate our recent plague problem. As buildings are being made in irregular intervals, our brave retinues manage to take another holding and slowly push warscore toward 62% in rebelious Sibir counties. Then our heir comes of age and boy... does he turns out less than stellar. Somehow we completely missed opportunity to intervene (no diligent =<) and he ends up with just level 2 Stewardship education and quite lackluster stats (9 stewardship, 4 learning). Will require quite long development to become decent so I'm not in hurry to play as him.

With coming spring I come to grizzly realisation that there is not 1 but 3 Lithuanian controlled cities within my realm. How did it happen? We do have Controlled Realm Inheritance set on Illegal so it shouldn't happen. Even if Kingdom of Cumania is wonky with regard to that law, it also happened in Perm county itself! Thus we will have to wage wars to recover them as it is completely unaccapteble for AI to be owning something inside our capital duchy x_X. We do conclude 1st round of Sibir extraction, taking duchy and one of two counties. Duchy title gets promptly destroyed (after ensuring excommunicated ruler can't create it again) but county of Osha will remain in our custody. For that we pass county of Turgay to one of our Commanders (26 martial). We fed enough of technology to south-western Cumania and now I kind of regret doing it so much so earlycause it started leaking across border making some Tribals on the steppes one of more advanced realms on the globe by pure reason of being located next door to us. Well I was little too paranoid with focusing on borders of empire. But after another extraction war (just restarted) we will move towards feeding high level of technology directly into heart of our eastern part of Empire. This way less of it will spill to others ;).

On the end of July we finish Sibir rebel (he had almost no garrisons on the second war) thus we migrate our ownership from Turgay duchy to Sibir duchy. Our Steward is sent to Osha to grant +130% Economic technology spread and our retinue are recalled to Perm. We also do micromanage next 3 Scottish teenagers with proper guardians after setting them on War education. We make our heir an Apprentice (to introduce him into Hermetics not only quicker but maybe at all given his low Learning) and then give him some of our money generating books (he can make use of them for now cause we have better options to equip). Thus our heir in waiting can generate extra 48g per year - not much but not nothing. (After finishing writing this part I think it might been mistake. Cause we no longer have those Q3 Stewardship books, we just increased possible pool of results for writing another such book x3"...).

Sadly Slow Fever persist through 1206 and by December we also get Measle outbreak in Bolgharia. At least it is only 10% penalty to income. We lose another Bishop and are currently having 4 Bishops directly under us with over the demense limit penalty. All in all - not great. We at least proceed with declaring war for Perm city on Kingdom of Lithuania. First of 3. Turns out they have some roving armies of 1.000 strong city levies across our realm - seems our holdings perform important role in Lithuania power structure. We get heads up from our Spymaster that we can pay either 1,700 or 5.400 gold to get rid of last Mayor that we want to remove but can't due to epidemy. I'm not paying so much, when we have around 1000% plot power waiting to be used after seclusion. Then we get approached by Redhanite merchant that wants to set up their heardquarters on silkroad. Problem being it is one of those counties outside our perfect borders so I decline paying another 1.700 coins for that. Our Master-Enginner creates Administrative Outpost modifier in Kolva (+1 economic and cultural technology point income). We also conclude feature construction in both wonders across Perm and Kudymkar. Need one more to unlock event happening.

Year 1207
======================

Despite all the difficulties our income still remains around +3.576 and expenses are at -429 due to retinues slightly needing replenishment. We have exactly 39.000 gold with most of our holdings currently building something. Sadly we will get retinue attrition due to Severe Winter (-5 supplies) on top of Slow Fever (-3 supplies) reducing acceptable troop number to just 1.000 in Perm itself. There is no amount of technology or holdings that will help us, as we have -1 Supply total in that Arctic terrain =.=. Despite having Great Roads there it still takes us 24 days to move away so we will take at least 1 attrition tick. It's still probably better to avoid extra attrition. I raise Permian levies to take over progress for now but the attritrion still hurts (we lose 1/3 of our retinues in Perm =.=).

G8CwpLo.jpeg

Ouch. Arctic terrain with epidemy hurts xD

We soon have to forget about siegeing out city in Perm for time being due to our levies quickly getting attritioned below required number to continue the siege. Not in season of Severe winter at least. The one good news is that since February the Slow Fever starts vanishing. So in few months we should finally say goodbye to that affliction. But there is no time to lose. Our Byzantine ally asks us to join their wars - war against Orthodox Persian Sharuzid Shahdom for whole kingdom and rebelion of Orthodox Greeks. Interesting. We are already at 58% against Persians and I would love to see it end in victory but Rebels have 8.000 more troops that Catholic Greeks and AI might recall their troops. If Orthodox side win it isn't the end of world but our Alliance will stop being impactful.

At start of April our Scottish commander Colban dies and we lose Ji that we gave him. Well happens. Then more news from Bosphorus arrive - our alliance is destroyed as Greek prince that was bethrothed to our niece dies (yet we still remain in war). I don't rise my troops as I have my own instability concerns and my feudal vassals aren't exactly fond of Emperor Turush at the moment. We also would like to see how it goes before commiting. We might mobilize someone to help Greek-Persian war though. Would like for our side to win kingdom of Daylam and then lose to Orthodox side.

Things don't exactly go as planned back in Perm. After timing mobilization during Permian spring (May) we quickly take over the city in Perm. Buuut... it costs us our prosperity province modifier... Well OUCH!

WJE1oTj.jpeg

OMG! You morons! That was statue of our own ruler xD! Also we diminish province wealth due to all that fighitng. Did not expect losing progress...

Our Catholic Greek former ally manage to progress war with Persians towards 66% with close to 14.000 troops within Daylam itself, while slowly losing against Orhtodox rebels (-16%) back home. Organized some retinues and local vassal levies to take over 2 other Lithuanian holdings within Empire to speed up this war. There is a chance for us to conclude everything before current top ruler loses to rebelion thus allowing us for 2 quick wars in succession. So far we managed to get 58% of warscore but without any armies to beat and not wanting to travel far to get hands on rest of Lithuania it can take a while as warscore from occupation slowly ticks...

In December once again Pilgrims flock to burial sites of Saints. We can either exchange 10 piety for 250g or try getting Gregarious (50%). As we have 6 traits it will risk us losing Diligent (and to lower extent Kind). So safe option it is. Then week later it fires again (probably other saint burial site?) and this time I gamble but don't get trait after all.

Year 1208
======================

Last year for this part - 41.500 gold and +3,614/-450 coins. We start with losing our great Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarch Michael the Wise, who gets replaced by Patriarch Tryphon. Not the worst but landless and has slightly less Diplomacy. Orthodox MA dives to the ground as we enjoy whole 17.5% due to Byzantine religious Bogaloo. Most interestingely other Orthodox Greeks are on their way to retake rebelious Thrace (that was heretic (Bogomilist) for last decade). That would help as other 2 holy sites in Anatolia and Greece are about to totally flip from Catholicism to Orthodoxy in time (in one case long time window cause remaining catholic bishop is just 30 years old). Well definetely that new Sunni Sultanate in Levant with their rebel event troops didn't help (as they kept attacking Christians around). Also it is bad moment to be current Basileos as fellow Catholics in Egypt also decided to take a bite out of purple blob by starting a war for Tripolitania in Africa. Well not my problem...

As finally we can bid Slow Fever adieu, our councill can start working. Don't expect much as our Patriarch conversion chances got nuked - 7.4% county conversion success chance and 12.65% subject conversion chance per year. Oh dear... Then our Nenetsian King vassal enforces his demand on Bryansk and soon our Leper nephew is thrown out of window. Well there was a plot for his life for quite some time and that -95% fertility didn't exactly made him ideal material for marriage alliances or prolonging the bloodline for me to care.

Once weather turns more mild I mobilise my troops to Burtasy. We will support our former allies in war against Persians as those newly added Orthodox vassals might help in balancing religious conflict within Eastern Roman Empire according to our wants. Eastern Roman Empire just suffered second Orthodox vassals rebelion and even more troops flocked to new rebels (60.000 vs Catholic Greeks with their current 8.000) We also lose some Mayor and have to invite some courtier from one of our vassal's courts to take over soon. But first we must succeed with plot. Which happens before summer is over. By the same time our retinues completely replenish aswell.

Discovered that some time ago our mercenary band was employed (first time since we kitted them out with extra pikes). Thus they took part in conflict among 2 muslim realms in south-eastern Persia and are on their way to total annihilation. Which is not great as we put some cash into them and they have around 1.700 coins on them :/... I swear sometimes it seems like AI is intentionally obliterating our mercs. That would be 2nd time that this happens in this playthrough. At the moment they are at 354 out of 1.600 men. Well finger crossed.

Soon we lose another Mayor so our issues with lack of usable characters persist. Most of Ashkenazis we invited at start of this part are just rotting away cause between plagues and low Orthodoxy MA we converted no one. Soon they will be too old to be of use. Not even mentioning that we have 5 over the limit Bishops cause human resource shortage made us unable to gamble on sending people to take vows. Still our war with Lithuania slowly ticks towards victory as Poles are not interested in contesting us. We also finally organized and send our expedition to Persia (accidentally took retinues from Burtasy with them thus unlocked option to pay for their replenishments).

Sadly we barely miss being able to enforce demands on Lithuania as by last day of year we reach 99% warscore. Byzantines recall their forces from Daylam to lose some battle in Trapizond but start winning the war overall and Measle outbreak starts timing out. In the background I was furiously continuing building in Sibir to bolster our numbers by bringing those newly acquired holdings up to snuff. We are due for another revocation round with scrying. Lets leave it for future and end this part on the high note.

V1sBK30.jpeg

Our highest income up to date, despite many problems that haunt us. We are making steady progress and probably within next part we are due to go past 4.000 income milestone.

On other hand Setyamka II is probably our most attractive kinsmen - both Attractive and Groomed.
Considering he's got the seduction focus, he's going to end up with Lover's Pox and Great Pox after seducing an Ugly lowborn, isn't he?

Part LIV (1209-1216)

MH6YJwS.jpeg

Part LIV (1209-1216)

Year 1209
======================

We continue our woes with being unable to procure competent city mayors due to Orthodox Moral Authority hitting all time low. Did another search looking through all religions for characters (except jewish cause we can't ask them to convert) but found nothing. Between parts I thought that simply due to forgetting this option we found ourself in such precarious position. But no - we really hit rock bottom. Did catch 2-3 more courtiers that should keep me afloat at least for now but that's it - almost every other new character with high stewardship is either Jewish or heir to some titles (which prevents them from taking over in Open Elective that cities use). Perhaps I should start thinking about making my own Stewardship breeding program in court. Yet now we are preoccupied with Scottish commanders. Despite that there is something that I can and want to try. We can assasinate some characters located in Holy sites to maybe make Orthodox take over. Started with Count Gerasimos of Ephesos - he and local bishop of Lebedos are Catholic but his 2nd heir and overlord are Orthodox. Send some bribes to gather way more plot power and then sent our spymaster to help. Not sure why but game glitched and it didn't invite automatically my bribed plotters. Had to do it manually. We also decide to gather some alchemical ingredients with our not so great Heir&Apprentice.

vguj7eI.jpeg

Time to medle in foreign affairs with our Spymaster. Hope for arranging for Orthodox rulers to take over their Catholic predecessors.

As game becomes unpaused we get notified that our King Setyamka II of Nenetsia has declared holy war for Novgorod, which is something we wanted to tackle in this part anyway (and works for us as it won't create truce timer). Two out of four characters arrive to our Court and we start feeding them prestige. Then we suffer heresy outbreak in Mansia (just north-east of Ural mountains) and on next possible game check for rebelion, the heretics rise up in force. It's not great as our personal levies from Perm are marching through southern steppes towards Caucasia, to help our previous Greek ally in conquest of Daylam. I recall at least retinue portion of that army to combine it with retinues in Perm (that will give us around 10.000 heavy troops but still have to regrettably ask our vassals for their levies).

fI8RUmB.jpeg

Well that's a problem. Those revolt modifiers quickly materialized. Also one of them cuts into local tax revenue.

As February slowly ticks, we manage to assimilate another child in court to Scottish culture but that small success is offset by 3.300 strong Buddhist Pecheneg raiding band showing up in Saur. As always: when it rains - it pours. Then one of our multi-bishops dies but is replaced with good enough character on it's own.

Suprisingly by end of March we already get our first assasination attempt with just 197% plot power. That is unexpectedly fast. Then our retinues from Silkroad catch up to intruders and turns out they consist mostly of Light Infantry and Archers (meaning we will absolutely trounce them).

yMe2lNU.jpeg

Our Commander did well - he firstly did away with both not Narrow Flank segments of enemy and then slayed the last one. We lost around 100 men for 1.300 enemies

So we enter May having dealt with at least one of the problems. Vasssal levies are slowly gathering in 2 rally points on both sides od Ural mountains. We also did succeed in removing Count Gerasimos of Ephesos (who turned out to be a member of our Hermetic society but oh well). Now his 4 year old Catholic son takes over (next in line of succession is his Orthodox aunt). So we press with another assasination but this time we barely manage to get over 100% plot power (meaning we probably will have to wait a minute for it to fire). Our Ingredient hunt ends with 3 items acquired and our 14.000 levies are finally (after wintering in allied Byzantine county) ready to move onto Persian Daylam. We assign Siege expert (+94% Siege) and move on first enemy county. It proceeds rapidly (+18% per tick).

With Autumn we finally amassed enough troops in Perm to move onto rebels (hoping we catch them before winter attrition affects us). We also have around 4.000 troops from eastern part of realm moving close to assist. Our Silkroad retinues didn't get to rest as more nomads showed in our Mongolian counties. At least in August first Persian castle fell to our levies. To my suprise our Patriarch converts one of court Jews to Orthodoxy. Don't get too excited as he is 43 years old. Sent him to become a monk as our previous Ashkenazi court tutor is 74 years old and might require replacement soon'ish. Remembering to check on Permian Mercenary band I cry - there is only 90 of them left x]...

More Nomads arrive but this time in Turgay (south-west Cumania). We don't have anybody there to react and we would like to not lose control of Lithuanian city occupied there (the war is still ongoing at 99% cause we lack proper field battle). Then we decide to write a theorem for society (free +2 Learning modifier) and we get approached by our Apprentice Prince Arnazz with proposition of summoning divine being (on which we spent one of ingredients). Our Prince recently also got +1 Martial from our horoscope so life isn't so bad rigt now. Back in the heretic Yugra duchy, rebels whithered away from 22.000 to 16.000 troops as our main relief force from Perm (22.000) carefully moves to not incure any attrition.

November ah November. What did you say? More rebels? But obviously some Orthodox peasant have to rise up too! Everyone felt blood is in the water. At the very least we can enforce demand county on Lithuanians for city ownership in Perm. One of our recently acquired characters takes over and we get rid of one of ongoing conflicts. Reaching another Divine Epiphany is some consolation price I guess.

95WvltQ.jpeg

To not make playing too easy game granted us another rebelion (this time peasant) on other side of Empire. At least we get Divine Epiphany again :). Ahh I like this together with "Confident Seer" modifier.

December inflicts some attrition on our army moving across Ural mountains quickly. Well those are mostly not my troops but many retinues are there and this will cost us an arm and a leg. Our expedition force in Caucasia took over whole county of Derbent (and melted away down to 11.500 men) and my previously diverted levies from East are about to engage Nomads in Turgay. Thus by Christmass Eve we are again slaughtering mostly lightly armored nomads. What a year!

Year 1210
======================

With all that action somewhat suprisingly we still note +3.900 income but sadly our expenses rised to -1.315. Our vassals are somewhat cranky about us using their levies to put down rebelions (-5). Our recent enemy - King of Lithuania ask for hand of our Niece which is quite a bold move. He is the target of some Old Germanic Invasion from 31 Martial count in Scandinavia so well he definetely would like our help. Sadly not only we say no - we are actively interested in that Norse succedding, as it would delete our truce timer, allowing us to retake 2 out of 3 cities that Polish Lithuanians took.

Sadly as our force is about to deal with Heretics another Nomadic group shows up - this time in Udmurts (duchy of Perm) =.=. Well that was to be expected wasn't it? We are gonna lose so much province wealth (it has 590.5 currently Q.Q). At the very least we finally have that fight against half of heretic forces.

pk031Md.jpeg

As expected once there was no one to protect our capital duchy we got guests. Well I really did push myself with amount of conflicts we are participating right now.

As we fight Paulician heresy breaks out in Vorotynsk. If you wondered - yes due to low Orthodox MA (26.5) the Monothelite heresy spread from Mansia to Yamalia. The fight goes predictably - we delete them in skirmish with our shieldwall and then move on other half of bloody heretics. Then I have a little epiphany myself. We can raise Chinese honor guard back in Tynea (2.000 men) to try dealing with barbarians taking our wealth. It is worth trying because it will be months before any other help can arrive. News from Caucasia are far better - we take over another few holdings in county to the south (that is actually within de jure Daylam) and associated warscore rises to 92%.

Just as in May our vassal army easily beats other Monothelite army (ending whole rebelion) our Chinese regiment gets slaughtered in melee by skirmish focused nomads :x... So we only bought ourselves a little time. We do execute leader of Heretics and move back our vassal forces across Ural once more. Even if we dealt with raiders in Udmurts we still have other peasant rebelion further west. Those villains move onto Kudymkar after sacking our fort in Udmurts. Funnily despite what just transpired there we get this:

YDh41xk.jpeg

Final holding slot there. Funny how this happens when whole province was basically cleared clean. First province with max number of holding slots.

We obviously build new city there ASAP. Then we get to grant intervention trait to our 3rd son (Prince Rayda) and I make him Diligent (getting stressed on Emperor Turush in exchange). Turns out we don't have 2 ingredients anymore so we can't cure it - which is bad revelation to have x]. Then we send our 14.5 year old son to Komi court for some courtier there putting finishing touches on his education to possibly develop his Indolent into Gregarious (he is already Shrewd and diligent making for arguably better heir than Prince Arnaz).

As we are making towards capital duchy and passing Mansia we got 2nd Monothelite rebelion. Well it is 33% revolt risk but come on! Fortunately we just need to make single province detour for our vassal levies to deal with them again. Other smaller 4.000 strong vassal detachment at least makes it to Perm itself by third week of July. We will contest enemies with them after concentrating them in single flank. Then we get another go at Monothelites in Mansia

FMLsooZ.jpeg

The fight is long and bloody because enemies come half at the time (prolonging whole battle). We do lose some men but boy do we slaughter them in melee as they are mostly lightly armored.

During that battle firstly enemy center routs as upon first change of tactics they decided to charge into melee and got skewered with Force back counter tactic in return. After that our left wing struggled as by the time they entered their melee they were on half morale but did well exchanging on Slow Advance vs enemy Barrage (losing 30 men but killing 220 per day). Then enemies reinforced their center with 8.000 troops that splitted previously so the battle kind of restarted but their wings were already in melee on verge of routing so soon fresh heretic reinforcments in center became flanked from both sides and killing began in fullest. As this was happening our other task force dealt with intruders in Perm losing 440 men but killing 1.900 enemies. To my suprise one of my vassals also dealt with peasant uprising, we finally pushed Greek-Persian war to 100% and Byzantines concluded their fight as well. So everything wrapped up by October. We set our Marshal in Mansia to lower revolt risk by 20% and enjoy big Byzantium as our men prepare to return. There is still Byzantine Orthodox revolt ongoing but I have no intention of helping our previous allies anymore, having achieved what we set out to do in Persia.

5KFOwbU.jpeg

While our Byzantine ally expands into northern Persia, we take some precautions against 3rd Monothelite rebelion in Mansia.

Trying to quantify amount of damage we took - both Udmurts and Kudymkar are stripped of all non fortified loot, our vassals are at -8 opinion penalty for levies raised for too long, and out of 15.000 troops moved into Persia - 10.000 are returning. Our counties did replenish around 8.000 troops so it isn't so bad I guess. But our 2 out of 3 retinues armies require reinforcing (they are roughly at 2/3 their maximum size). Luckily our mercenary band survived and bounced back a little (160 from 90 men) but this too will take some of my demense levies to refill.

Year 1211
======================

Our income went from last year high to much lower +3.511, while expenses still float around -1.476g. At least that second number is lowered by 1.000 as we finally can safely disband levies who reach Burtasy on 14th of January. Then week later we get this nice popup:

UDm9dqU.jpeg

Secret ingredient for prospering - just get looted! That's 6 out of possible 7 prosperity modifiers there. We only lack Center of Worship (+Clergy Tax)

With those 2 quick and unexpected prosperity events I feel much better (despite 2 counties suffering at 31% and 44% of maximum taxation). Then we check up on kids growing up in court, keep building between Burtasy, Osha and Tura as well as invite some 2-3 new high stewardship courtiers from our vassals. We also survery how is it going in lands of Greek and it seems like our Catholic Emperor is on his way out against both Orthodox pretenders. From what I remember it will be nasty cause one of requirement to concluding civil war is for defeated side to not be occupied by others. So this conflict probably will persist longer

We slowly replenish our levies (we lack around 5.000 men) when in July Consumption breaks out in Ashli (Bolgharia and level 3 hospital =.=). Well that's a -25% income right there. We also keep upgrading freshly build city. Have one over the limit mayor and are we haven't achieved much with our efforts to replace Catholic overlord of Ephesos (other Holy site fixed itself thus we regained briefly 5% MA before it fell down by 3% due to someone losing another holy war).

Almost forgot - we drank from fountain of youth again (-2 years to make Turush 55 years old). This is also good moment to pick another character ambition. Given that Orthodoxy now suffers we can (and should) pick ambition to strenghten it. It requires less than 30% MA and we just could rampage to the west a little in order to start feeding our Nenetsian king whole empire of Rus. So we start with holy war for Smolensk. Turns out I can't holy war for Novgorod cause Russian king there embraced Orthodoxy. Well that's definetely puts a wrench into my plan [It was after playing that I realised that Novgorod probably converted during Nenetsian-Novgorod holy war we were talking earlier]. We could force vassalize him as emperor yet it doesn't give us much. We still need to get his kingdom title to pass it onto our kin in Nenetsia and we can't use our usual Orthodoxy Sheningans cause he is under his own Patriarch. Fabricating claim is out of question for how costly it will be. We could wait for one of his landless sons in the future - invite him, excommunicate him then land him and maybe press his claim. This way once he takes over we can incite his rebelion and redistribute. Upon checking it concluded that definetely isn't doable right now. So the Nenetsian saga (please take those lands off me!) continues.

kgzjq0F.jpeg

Time to enlarge Nenetsia in our quest to make them Empire as well. Doing it in name of Christ is bonus!

As our 3rd son comes of age another dillema is thrust upon us. Prince Rayda turned out much more comptetent than Prince Arnaz. With level 3 stewardship education (compared to level 2), having shrewd too but also diligent (which Arnaz lacks). The only (somewhat of a) downside is Rayda having Groomed instead of Gregarious. Not gonna lie - I'm weighting my options. Our firstborn has only 10 stewardship and 4 learning while Rayda has 19 Stewrdship and 13 Learning. Well... Upon some consideration let's invest in safer future with more capable heir. Thus Prince Arnaz bethrothal with Countess of Illyinsk is broken off (we patch things up with some bribes to... bethroth her to our 4th son Prince Zhebeb cause there is no need to not take over that count for Permyakid dynasty and waste Genius female character) and we excommunicate him. Or we at least try to cause we lack 40% Moral Authority that is required (currently 19%). Ooops!

Meanwhile we found some Genius + Attractive Komi girl for Prince Rayda and made the match. Seems like now we only need to find a way for kicking out our current heir from his position. If things will go nowhere with excommunications we can still invoke tyranny. Then I tinker a little trying to get some baron level city vassals from under different counts but it fails ultimately. That's a bummer. Really wanted to use those tyrannies to get 2 extra city to our newest mayor in duchy of Perm. For some reason I can't retract de jure vassals.

Year 1212
======================

We enter anno domini 1212 with +2.062g balance (+3624.66 income and -1562 expenses) on top of our 36.500 gold coins in imperial treasury. Within this year our retinues should fully replenish thus lowering our costs of reinforcing them from 573g/year to 70g/year. Thus we embark on another military infrastructure buildup:

nNyGMEI.jpeg

After upgrading those structures another 2.700 gold vanishes. But it will be well used.

Turns out our Permian mercenary band survived their last ordeal. Now that they are off the contract they started reinforcing and are up to 750 men currently. They also increased their coffers to consist of nice and round 2.000 coins. Our Byzantine ally is steadily losing against both Orthodox rebelions (-81% and -87%) and we can't wait for those wars to end. Once they do we can once again bethroth our unlucky niece Nyumina Permyakid (that was previously bethrothed to Prince of Holy Roman Empire that picked life of Knight in Holy Order and then was left hanging after her young bethrothed heir to Eastern Roman Empire died unexpectedly) to whoever comes on top of Greek struggle. We can't do this to side we are currently fighting with and we realy would like to boost our branch of Christianity in term of moral authority. Beside that Muhallabids managed to win small Jihad for Persia targetting Armenia (literally 2 counties were lost). With that they are once again eligible to be targeted with Chinese Prepared Invasion and I definetely will use it (cause we want to spend that Grace just in case to not waste it upon Mongol Invasion).

te8QNG4.jpeg

Good luck with that! Let's create even more chaos in middle east for our fellow Orthodox brethren to expand more.

Calling Chinese on Arabia has additional benefit - this is the year of calling in another Crusade. Assuming Catholic try to retake Jerusalem or Levant from rebel Hamid Sultanate (that ate most of our Greek Syria =<), we just made sure that one of their stronger co-religionist can't help them. So while we might not partake in next Crusade ourself, we at least did help Christianity ;).

In February despite my best efforts, winter cuts into our levies gathered in Vologda. Unexpected drop in temperature deleted around 1.000 levies and forced me to divide our forces before starting the march onto Russian pagans. Our Ecumenical Patriarch Tryphon also dies at 39 years of age due to poor health. Somewhat weird as he wasn't frail or thin, had no sickness or symptoms. He wasn't the best but at the very least with 9 diplomacy and Zealous he was destined to accumulate Piety. Now Eustathios became his replacement and he has slightly more Dipllomacy (10) but lacks any steadily piety rising trait.

When it comes to Permian intrigues I changed plans. Gave up pursuing that assasination of kid count in Anatolia with barely over 100% plot power to quickly fix one of over the limit burghers in Perm. We achieve that goal by end of February and go onto another 1200% plot power plot to clean the single remaining mayor. It will take two kills as we have only one female courtier in that city.

Given some human resource work I check out how the Scottish program is going. We mostly develop 2nd generation and fully assimilated them so I invite 4 female courtiers and marry them off to our Scottish lads. With that they will start breeding Orthodox Scotts that will have better chances of becoming decent commanders from education alone.

With start of April another city (Lysva) losses it's host and we arrange another of our recently invited courtiers to take over there. Just as attempt for previous target life fires. Soon we succeed and then we have 2 mayors requiring just one assasination each to fix them :). As winter snow already melted away we also start our offensive onto Smolensk

UN5iNm7.jpeg

It is still weird how big the delay is between declaring war and actually moving onto enemies. Also fanatic reinforcemenets - we weren't the only ones upset about current state of Orthodoxy affairs.

In May for the first time we experience benefit of Saint Varaka bloodline - Zealot army joined us, giving us another almost 5.000 strong army (seems like 2x2.5% of total levies) to play with! Not sure about the rules regarding when will they vanish but we will try to make the best of them.

By June we fix another city and embark on final clenaup operation for now. As our retinues replenished we divide them again into their previous arrangement (3.000 at Burtasy and 6.900 in Perm). Sadly our Moral Authority keeps rapidly falling and reches 3% by August. Not good :V. At the very least we catch one of bigger Russian armies in Toropets and give them battle (mostly with our Scottish commanders to maybe level them up as this is low stake situation)

irvGrZ9.jpeg

We win easily and continue siegeing out contested tribal counties.

Before end of August we lose another Mayor and instantly get onto fixing him after another succesful assasination (had to invite 4 lowborn women though). Good news arrive in October - our Catholic Greek ally losses but not to the pretender he called us in but other Orthodox claimant. Thus we remain in this war (at -81%) as now both Orthodox Greek sides are battling it out. Doesn't make difference which side losses - I assume it will last a little longer cause the side with numerical advantage (our) has huge negative warscore. So it might take few more years before we tie the knot for our Niece and finalize alliance with Greek Empire.

Sadly our 6th Bishop gets replaced and adds to our work =.=. Something that I was not tackling due to lack of ability to convert high enough stewardship characters. My-my what a mess it became. To my estimation around 60% of temple income is lost this way. Yet the change on Roman throne bring little change to our awfully low MA. Our Chinese Invasion still hasn't reached Muhallabid Sultanate so it will be quite some time before something changes. In the meantime Monothelite heresy spread south from Yugra to Chimgi-Tura county. We can't really do anything with it as our Marshal is actively supressing heretic stronghold in Yugra so we just cross our fingers that this 20% revolt risk doesn't explode.

d4sDHKO.jpeg

Was nervous that due not having friends there is no character eligible to gift us this modifier. Turns out Lover works just fine. Our plan is coming together.

In December our brave Zealots finally arrive on the frontlines, where we took over 3 counties (almost). This gives us around 30% Warscore. Novgorodians with their 8.000 strong main army are staying put so we patiently and cautiously advance. We will beat them without any doubt but I would rather avoid extra losses. After another kill to our belt, we import some Italian 18 Stewardship Catholic courtier from abroad and throw him into city we work on (while still enjoying 1100% plot power there to remove it's current host). Finally at the end of year Santa Claus gifts us a puppy (Hunting focus).

Year 1213
======================

January starts with 36.500 gold coins in our possession and +2.761 yearly balance (+3.804/-1.043). We did some replenishing and currently are sitting at 22 out of 28 thousand levy troops from personal demense. Mercenaries have refilled to 1.350/1.600 men. War for Greek succession is still ongoing (-91% so perhaps it won't last as long as I was dreading) and our conflict with pagans enters it's final year of struggle for Smolensk. Not impressed with Chinese invasion effort so far.

IolHpQ4.jpeg

10 Keeps more are constructed (costing us over 3.000 gold coins) in every county but Tura that is catching up on previous buildings pronto. This once again will boost our army size.

Once we move to capture remaining 2 counties in Smolensk, our pagan adversaries move to recapture previously lost counties we just left. As we have more than enough troops to pursue several goals simultaneously we divide our forces to give enemies one big battle. Before that happens winter has to remind us about itself and we take few thousand men as casualties x]". Well happens...

In March Greek infighting finally comes to an end. Basileus Pamphilios 'the Wise' prevails and upon uniting his realm enjoys 95.000 out of possible 145.000 troops. Soon that numbers decreases. His vassals are finishing retaking Constantinopole (which would do wonders for our low Orthodox MA if they pass it to Ecumenical Patriarch: +15% MA). We instantly marry Nyumina to their heir - 17 year old Prince Maximos and establish military alliance. Let's hope this one will stick.

VPZVrak.jpeg

Third time the charm. Let's hope that we won't have to arrange our niece marriage for the 4th time. Also realm ledger sorted by realm size

After dealing with Russians I notice that according to my wishes - Constantinopole was retaken and given to our religious head. Thus our MA soars from depths of hell to 20%. We also almost instantly convert one of our older jews in court. We force him to become monk (19 stewardship) to soon replace someone. As our war for Smolensk duchy is still ongoing I move main army to smash other pagan relief force, while marching Zealots to take another county. Emperor Turush get's extra prestige from his pet dog "Hunter" behaving well (I hope it wasn't instead of +1 health from training).

9UmVTAB.jpeg

Forgot to switch our logistic commander in center before battle thus we got Timid Advance. We still slaughter them but it doesn't provide as much warscore as I hoped.

More raiding nomads arrive in Western Zaysan (our retinues from silkroad are called into action) and another 4.000 light infantry host crosses Bolgharia into Qazan so my reinforced retinues in Perm make move as well. In the background our levies deleted whole 1.400 strong pagan allied army.

By August we finish those intruders near our economic core losing 238 men but killing 1.570 which is A-Ok. As we restarted killing our bishops (with unrealistic hopes that maybe it fixes some of them) the bad bishops start losing their heads en-masse. Our guards in Mongolia do much better - they delete 227 out of 1.000 looting riders losing only 63 men.

We lose another old Mayor in city of Gorodki (and have no replacements) but the automatically generated characters seems to be able to do the bare minimum with decent wife, so we go with that approach. Then in October Monothelite heresy breaks out in Tarbagatai duchy (silkroad adjecent).

In November we luckily fix at least one bad temple vassal but to counteract this, our character receives report about this:

haHy1sx.jpeg

Oh no... Not now game xD We are just about to suffer Mongols with their attritionless event troops. Truly God forsaken islands as previously Irish King nicknamed "Son of Jesus" (with both Voice of Jesus and Voice of Satan modifiers and every possible vice) fought Scottish King known as "Son of Devil". As they failed in their apocalyptic struggle for fate of world, we are now seeing their next attempt.

Before end of year we conclude holy war for Smolensk against Kingdom of Ruthenia and shrewdly without pausing declare 2 more holy wars (to complete our ambition and not lose Saintly bloodline event troops) on single county pagan realms in Drutsk and Minsk. They are so small that we can just do this with our Zealots (adding siege commander surely will help). Out of curiosty checked and atm I have 48% of de jure empire of Rus (80% is required to make the title) so it will be quite some time before we can do this. Tried giving one of the temples to our heir but forgot that we can't disqualify our heir this way. So we moved newly acquired lands under Nenetsian king.

Year 1214
======================

Another year in wars but this time much less attention demanding. We have record income of 4.011 and only 164 expenses with 35.153 coins in the pocket. We mostly finished upgrading our castles for now (not enough technology spread for Keep V) so only Burtasy and Tura will be catching up with infrastructure. We are somewhat not replenished as only 18 out of 30 thousand troops are available. Yet our mercenaries did replenish and found another contract. We embark on another Tyranny+Scrying activity to fix another of bishops. Thus after 2 rounds of "revoking with tyranny, then scrying for bad omen and giving away titles to our recent new Monastic Jew" we get this

s1Q8wRr.jpeg

Every little bit helps.

We can also once again collect more ingredients and we really want to as both Emperor himself and some of his sons are stressed. Not much else to do. With recent actions we have to wait another 5 years for more revocations for opinion penalty to time out.

Takes us up to April to conclude first holy war (getting 2/3 of deeds for our ambition) and to move onto Drutsk. Another 67 years old bishop bites the dust and we are once again on mission to replace him. Our court is empty though. With 19% MA our Patriarch has 12.6% yearly chance of converting courties so it doesn't seem like winning formula. Did decide to spend a little on single University II in Kazakh duchy (as that area struggles with technology spread).

d3m1sgL.jpeg

Some silver lining in that whole Orthodoxy debacle.

Then across summer we finish Drutsk holy war, as more nomads show up in Western Sayan to be defeated by our Pikes again. Upon concluding last Orthodox Holy War for now we fulfill ambition to strenghten religion and thus receive nice "Religious Champion" modifier granting +10 opinion from all characters of the same faith. As I accumulated quite a lot of "Dishonorable" penalty (atm at -50) it is nice cushion. Time to chill a little.

We brew ourself a "happy potion" from monastic society and get rid of stressed. With that we are up to +3.5 health modifier (Holy Prepuce, Magnum Opus, Hunting, Pet Dog,). I still hope for that dog training event and maybe Brawny? With all that we could live for a while longer. And with that we can once again test Emperor's luck with "Write a Book" decision as "Uninspired" modifier timed out.

s8Qgde3.jpeg

Even with our 26 stewardship we should be eligible to upgrade quality of book as our current steward has 27 Stewardship =3

As mentioned previously I missplayed by giving away two Quality 3 stewardship books to our heir (the ones generating gold) as it increased pool of possible Q3 books from 2 to 4 (thus lowering our chance of getting what we desire from 50% to 25%). Well mistakes are unavoidable I guess. Let's hope we don't write another "Feeding the Realm" or "Modest Measures" cause they will get automatically destroyed upon inheriting (you can't have 2 of the same artifact).

By end of June our Court Tutor celebrates his 80th birthday. He was our Ashkenazi educator for quite some time and I wonder how longer our Monastic subject will continue providing those ward bonuses :). Then I find myself in need of cleaning up court a little cause after last round of battles we gathered some Pagan courtiers that only would hog our future conversion on bad characters. Did demand few conversion here and there and decided to invite another batch of Jewish stewards cause our MA rised to 30% (giving us around 25% yearly chance of conversion).

Throughout the year Black Death only expanded from eastern Ireland to western coast of England so maybe it fizzles out long before reaching us? One can hope.

Year 1215
======================

First peaceful year in what feels like ages. With 36,100 gold coins and yearly balance of +3.821 (+3.946 / -125) we are looking good. Our levies replenished to almost 23 out of 31 thousand and 3 out of 3 invited Jews arrived (no gold wasted). We don't have many things to do for now beside carefully navigating and relaxing. But the broad Christian world has different ideas:

EaGUgAE.jpeg

Well it seems to be the end of Hamidid Sultanate career. They retained only 8.000 out of 100.000 event troops they started with.

So situation developed according to my foresight. Chinese invasion finally started making progress (20%) towards Muhallabids Sultanate downfall, that still joined united Sunni front against Crusaders. Everything was timed nicely on my part and any failure will be mostly on AI part. By accident spotted dancing plague in northern Syria. Well knights from Europe are up to one heck of suprise once they land I guess.

In March we get high stewardship Jew courtier generated directly into our court. Upon relieving one of recently invited Orthodox characters (he became monk in one of our Bishoprics that have no one in spare and 20 years older current title holder = big success) we have 5 courtiers to convert in capital. Our long awaited Hunting event also arrives and after all we get to train our pet dog personally. Meaning we will get another +1 health (reaching +4.5 health in total). This also excludes another possible event, making others more likely. Did quick hunt last year but it didn't result in anything. Don't think we have to keep organizing them as Great Hunts fire on their own.

IiwqiwS.jpeg

So glad we received this event. This confers additional +1 health to Emperor Turush, increasing his life expectancy. Thus making it more likely we write another book within this character lifespan.

First half of year thus passes calmly. There appear some 750 nomads from now united Mongolia (under Yaghlakar khaganate) but it isn't something we can't deal with. Then we get presented with another saint burial site event - we do pick chance at gregarious trait (50%). As some time ago we lost lustful and are down to 5 traits, we can have another and also need some positive opinion modifier. Due to all recent acts Turush is quite disliked to the point that some vassals suffer from negative disposition towards him. So getting that +10 opinion will result in getting rid of up to 10% tax penalty on quite few micro vassals. Third time the charm and Turush becomes Gregarious.

During summer another burgher croaks but his heir has 15 stewardship, which is almost enough. We can give him wife with quite decent stewardship and overall this will do for this generation. We also begin writing another theorem for Monastic Society to refresh previous modifier but refuse to hold Grand Debate (not paying 2.000 gold now).

By Autumn as I check my notes I realise that we kind off forgot about building 2nd feature in our recently built Great Works. Well we were fighting and event we hunt for to fire requires we are at peace when they finish. So it is high time to catch up on that task.

n2BCJyj.jpeg

Extra local taxation will be premium in counties with 5 cities.

In November our Great Engineer creates Blast Furnance in Tynea (capital). It grants some extra levy reinforcement and military tech points income. Not bad not good enough. The same month marks the end of our dog training (gifting us that expected +1 to base health). We do go through murders of several more bishops without being discovered (but sometimes spread nasty rumours about us trying to)

Year 1216
======================

Last year for this part and we have 37.700 gold coins. Our levies also almost fully replenished (29/31 thousand troops) so life seems good. World is developing - Eastern Roman Empire having sniffed the blood in the water decided to push their own claim on Jerusalem. Really like idea of Orthodoxy retaking Jerusalem cause every holy site is at premium. Hamidids are already losing (-7%), which has mostly to do with their border with Catholic Egypt. Muhallabids are losing even harder (-47%) against Chinese Western Protectorate armies so things are looking up.

Sadly by spring our daughter-in-law and wife of Prince Rayda is dealt with by hand of our courtiers :/. She was Genius, Groomed and Attractive... Daamn are courtiers are haters! Had no notification about it cause she was somewhat more distant family member. Soon I procure 2 relatively young Genius women from abroad (<24 years of age) and marry them off to both Prince Rayda and Prince Oshmar. With that (and Prince Zhebeg being bethrothed to Count of Illyinsk while our only Princess is currently the Queen of Nenetsia) we did quite a lot to spread the bloodline around. Now to only live little longer (Emperor Turush just turned 60 "officially") to disinherit Prince Arnaz and we "ball it".

In June we are once again eligible to pick "See the Realm Prosper" ambition. And we do it as I don't expect any more wars in the near future. Both because we have high tyranny penalty at the moment and we lack candidates for restructuring our realm. As we check progress in holy land - Byzantines pushed their war towards 81% but upon inspecting it closer they only fight for Duchy of Jerusalem. While our Catholic brethren advanced their war from 7% to 17%. If we end with county of Jerusalem being Orthodox I consider it great success. Sadly Chinese invasion got pushed back to 26% warscore. Didn't lose any men in their army - probably are just racing in sieges without fighting standing armies.

Month later our Nenetsian vassals victoriously concludes another holy war against Kingdom of Ruthenia (taking over Chernigov duchy) and prince Rayda wife develops Great Pox (Seems we have another "unlucky" lover Permyakid =.=...). Meanwhile Black Death remains on the British Isles but at least population of Levant stopped dancing Crusaders away.

Months pass uneventfully till December when we complete 2nd features in both of our most recent Wonders. This should enable "Town is Born" event for both counties within a year. Meaning 2 more multi city vassals :). At this point we struggle more with revoking instead of creating more holding slots. Maybe after we streamline inheritance we will go on little tyranny tour to fix as much as possible? Wouldn't be the worst. Also bloody Catholic Pomeranian Sultanate of Sinai (under Crusader Emira Zdenka) employed and pretty much destroyed over half of our Mercenary band :(. No wonder our Ashkenazi commander asked for help (which we declined to not suffer higher penalty to levy size).

Before end I notice that Western Protectorate troops are besieging Muhallabids in Abbyssinia. Didn't expect it. Also our Orthodox MA rose above 40% meaning we can once again begin excommunicating (and we have quite a few potential candidates). Our Courtier conversion chance also rised from 25% to 50.62% which is much better. So things are finally looking promising I guess? We will take care of them in next part

We still experience steady albeit slow growth. It will spike a little in next part due to 2 more cities in Perm duchy incoming (meaning potential of up to 6 cities paying us directly through high stewardship vassals.

Did catch 2-3 more courtiers that should keep me afloat at least for now but that's it - almost every other new character with high stewardship is either Jewish or heir to some titles (which prevents them from taking over in Open Elective that cities use).
How do you get them into the cities in order to inherit? If you get them to take the vows they'll go to a bishopric, and in my experience, asking them to leave the court just sends them abroad.

By planting female courtiers there (marrying them to Burghers and his sons). Then eliminating all males that would have higher prestige+age than my handpicked character. Oh and I marry my Right Religion+No Claims courtiers matrilineary into those courts so they are forced to move there instead of bride arriving in my court.
