My thoughts exactly.

Also I think it is time for some massive improvement and updates to the actual game.

Because they may make it seem that there is so much new stuff releasing for the games (which is great), but all the work has actually been done by others for all these region packs, radio stations and creator packs. So it is about time CO themselves show up with some actual big improvements (grass, animations, snow, simulation fixes, more traffic, better menu system for all those new packs, upgraded line tool for fences, more in game information about what is happening in your city, bikes, etc)

And this is exactly the most serious thing!!!

Apart from some new buildings and roundabouts with the "Detailers Patches", apart from the new buildings created with the regions packs by the modders, there has been absolutely nothing from CO to improve the many shortcomings and defects of the game, nothing at all, the cosmic void...and apparently this black hole continues unabated.

There is this new patch planned for the 18th but as already written previously we cannot know what "fantastic" news and adjustments it will bring...

Am I the only one wondering if there will ever be an update regarding the textures in the game? When comparing the ground textures and trees from CS1 and CS2 in the images above, one might question whether CS2 is truly a worthy successor. Of course, CS2 generally looks better, but the ground textures and trees are of incredibly poor quality. Even in CS1, the ground textures of buildings transition more smoothly into the surrounding terrain. Aside from the missing animations and numerous bugs in the game, the textures bother me the most.

I agree . But we don't need just upgraded textures for the ground and for the industries. We need actual grass and sprites. If you compare CS1 industries and compare that with CS2 brown striped textures with a building, it seems like we went backwards. But grass on assets and maps is probably another performance hit they don't want to invest in because it doesn't align with their console plans. Grass was a toggle in dev mode since launch day but it was broken and they never fixed it and just turned it off.

So I was wrong. They were cynical enough to present as part of the 10th anniversary celebration the 3 mysterious CCP announced in april 2024 as compensation for the No Beach houses DLC disaster with a release in Q4 2024 finally postponed to Q1 2025. Wow. Just wow.

So what's the teased "BIG suprise" exactly? The three CS1 DLCs? In 2023, they were adamant about the very end of CS1. No more patches or content ever, CS II was the future. But then, more people played (and still play) CS1 than CSII, for many good reasons, so they backpedaled and released 2 CCP and 1 radio in oct 2024. They probably made good money so now we'll get 2 more CCP and 1 more radio. Not really a "BIG surprise" and nothing to please CS II owners.

Then we have a handful of free advertising assets, just like many predicted, myself included. Any longtime fan of the CS franchise could see this coming. Again, no big deal and definitely not a "BIG surprise".

At last, we have one patch, the only work done by CO, which can't seriously be considered as a "BIG suprise" and may be underwhelming to say the least.

CS II's future's so bright I gotta wear shades! o_O

It's one of the things that bothers me the most, the textures of the roads and the ground in CS2 are horrible. Only recently, thanks to a MOD, the textures of the roads have become decent.

I also add the textures of the trees and foliage are horrible and disgusting, especially those of the hedges.

I'm waiting for them to start releasing DLC with new mechanics for CS1 again, instead of CS2
What I would gladly buy is a remastered CS1 without the quirks and the limitations + the road tools, the seasons and the mixed zoning from CS II. Make it kind of a CS 1.5, call it CITIES: SKYLINES REMASTERED COLLECTOR DELUXE or something, trash CS II and start working on CS III with a new studio.

Colossal Order put it in their own words: “We founded Colossal Order with the dream of creating a city-builder that would bring more freedom and creativity to the cities players can build. With Cities: Skylines, that dream not only came true, but thanks to the continued support of our amazing fans, we had the opportunity to keep growing and building this game and community many years after its release and take it even further than anticipated. It's been an incredible journey that's taught us so much — and still has more to teach — and we are forever grateful to everyone who made it possible and who joined us along the way.”

So .. that's the reason Cities in Motion 2 never got the love it should? Because it was just .. means to an end to build Cities Skylines?

If they have set a date for that patch, the content is already fixed. So the notes could have been released by now as well.

Nope, there is up to 1/2 sprint left until next week so things are still in testing and development.

That would only be valid for some features which are not impactful (like the announced assets) but barely for fixes on existing bugs, especially on anything affecting the simulation as that stuff can only really be tested as a whole with everything else being in place. Changing one end can lead to unpredictable reactions on another end, so things which are currently planned can be removed last minute due to unwanted effects.

Patch notes on agile developed projects is the last step and they are usually not even complete. Documentation on agile developed projects is the least important thing to do (Agile Manifesto: working software over comprehensive documentation).

Also: If they now announce things to be included which afterwards won't end up in the release as they cause more harm than good I can assure you that the usual bullshit bingo over here will start over again, with specific persons being in the lead ;) so better let them develop until Friday to prepare patch notes in the afternoon to be released all together with the patch. That's what all companies I know at least do (or can you point me to Windows KB patch notes about any "fixes" (not features) a week prior to release?

Or take Googles patch notes on any of their apps - they don't even try to tell you what they did beyond "improvements on stability and performance". Like it or not but companies don't owe you a detailed list of improvements a week before release. Patches are no longer pressed on a CD so you'll get the most important information just in time and some fixes won't even be mentioned.

I have to say, I think it would generate a lot of goodwill among the community if we got some engagement from the devs here. Some of the comments are unnecessarily pessimistic IMO, but I think it’s fair for us to have some questions answered.

If they plan on publishing to the Windows Store at the same time (which is usually the case) the patch should be handed in for certification today or tomorrow.

Certification for the Microsoft Store/Gamepass takes 1 to 3 days for minor hotfixes and 3 to 7 business days for larger fixes. CO said this themselves it takes longer on release of CS2 and you can find a lot of information from other developers how publishing updates there is a much lengthier experience than the one button press on Steam. So if they release early next week, it should be tested and done by now.

That said, nobody asked for detailed patch notes. People want highlights of fixes. I assume after more than a month of radio silence about game updates, there should be stuff already done that will be in the patch. They really missed to mark for a anniversary celebration big time. They released nothing except a video, a blog post and announced thing you can buy in 1 one 2 weeks and a DLC subscription service. Happy anniversary. LOL
