Am I the only who is bothered by how bad the planetary portraits look in 4.0?
The UI got so stretched that they had to add a black line to fill the left side, and they look pixelated by virtue of having to stretch them to the new planetary UI size.

Could we at least get some AI upscaled versions that don't look so bad?

I'm not sure stellaris team use AI to generate pics and codes. Anyway, your request will definitely involve to remaking a large amount of basic pic materials from the game, which is not a small workload. Without enough manpower or the use of AI assist, it will definitely take a long time.

I get that, but it really detracts from the presentation of the game. These assets were not made for this UI.

Is was explained on the official Discord, they won't AI Upscale it to avoid flak from the community.
Even The Red King, our beloved lorekeeper content creator has got a lot of acidic comments in past videos where he used AI to upscale the small event images, so much so he stopped doing it.

And this UI wasn't really made for Stellaris, but to "look optically pleasing".

Well, it looks like crap.
AI is still a bad suggestion. They're a big and profitable studio. They can afford to hire artists if they need it.

But, for the record, they probably don't even need it. I doubt most of that art was made to be the size it is. The original artists most likely made bigger more detailed versions that were later compressed in order to fit inside the game's UI. I've seen many examples from artists who worked on Stellaris' portfolios and the art they share is usually way bigger than what we get in the game.

So Paradox has the bigger versions of this art already. No need for AI. The issue is probably more UI resolution related than anything else.

People are harping on the AI thing too much. It was meant mostly as a temporary "fix". The point was "we've spent hundreds of dollars in this game over the years, this is unacceptable".

Something that doesn't impact the game in any way and can be easily ignored is kind of the exact opposite of an urgent problem that needs a "temporary fix". If you're concerned about your hundreds of dollars, there are lots of bigger issues at the moment.

You're not wrong. I literally just had to abandon a save that crashes every time at the same exact date, coming into the midgame.

That said, if nobody voices their discontent, this is gonna keep happening, and it's not acceptable.

Have you looked at the Ecumenopolis UI? The icons for all the specialized arcologies is the same, and once you've specialized, it doesn't even tell you what kind it is. You'd have to mouseover and look at which jobs does it provide.

Is it an urgent issue? No, I know how I specialize my planets and I can always look, but that's besides the point. The point is that this whole thing, with the bugs, and the crashes and poor balancing of things and the godawful UI... it doesn't just reek of unpolished, it reeks of unfinished. And I'm not the only one that thinks this is the worst release ever, and yes, even worse than Megacorp.
