Operation Brainstorm | Prototype Vehicles Available Now!

Generals!

Welcome to Operation Brainstorm - File .: 1.16.6 :.

This is the release of the final part of Expansion Pass 1: Prototype Vehicles. All of these models were either blueprints or early prototypes that were created or designed during the war, but ended up never getting used, or even manufactured. Also, they’re all entirely optional to use. Everything in this Unit Pack is intended to add some flavor and doesn’t affect gameplay.

To facilitate and accompany this release we have included a smaller War Effort patch, tweaking some balance, as well as fixing a bunch of issues.

I hope you enjoy this release! Our current plan is to be back in just a few weeks to give all of you more insight into what we are, and have been, up to.

- @PDX_Gorion

Dozer blades nerfed, while easy maintenance is buffed????? Am I taking crazy pills?????

Other than that patch notes seem fine except for omission of other balance issues

Edit: corrected by later comment, and also I should at least say that no xp for MIO updates is a fantastic change.

EDIT: Steam announcement says 'Czechoslovakia' in the table so...
(Also has 'England' in the table)
Non-NSB Improved Medium Tank, Advanced Medium Tank, Improved Medium Tank Destroyer and Advanced Medium Tank Destroyers now have hardness value of 90%
Wonder why they were set to 85% hardness in the first place...

Incredible change

This is not correct.

The SMK was used in the Winter War, knocked out by the Finns who couldn't tow it from the battlefield due to a lack of heavy-duty towing vehicles, and then recovered by the Russians two months later.

The Ba 349 Natter is also worth mentioning in the context of this post: preparations to use the aircraft operationally were underway but the Americans overran the launchpads for the aircraft before they could be completed and the Natters deployed.

There may be others that saw use or were about to see use, but those two stuck out to me.

EDIT: Here's a photo of the knocked out SMK at the Summa sector of the Mannerheim Line.

If I haven't overlooked something, this is the sole unit that wasn't featured in the Unit Pack dev diary?

Yes please allow to upgrade ships while they are still being built. Ship upgrading gets tedious if you are playing a naval game.

Maybe even add a ship refitting tech as there already is an equipment refitting one. Or have the equipment one also give you a boost in ship refitting.

It would be nice to have ships build in stages. Build first the hull. Then build the engines. Then big Guns and the last all the rest. Then it would be easier to change plans during the building phase… but could the AI use that… possible. Possibly… But maybe not for hoi4… maybe more like hoi5 stuff.
During the ww2 it was guite common that there were changes during the building phase. But it was much harder after certain parts were allready been done. So buiding ships in phases could help in that.

They could allow you to just build the chasis/frame/hull and then you convert them to what you want when your technologies are ready.

Well, it's kinda possible already if you want to exploit the system. Building a ship with just the engine and a single gun, then add the rest once the hull is finished. Massive resource savings on capital ships with lots of guns or deck space, but quite annoying and clearly not how retrofitting was intended (which pre-dates the equipment designers).

Atm you're paying double for resource-demanding modules, since they increase both the daily resource cost and the time spent in production.

We need more practical uses in singleplayer for anti tank equipment/guns as the AI doesn’t seem to build too many tanks.

As for SP AA, maybe it could get more soft attack and defense?

That would also help ensure those half-finished ships at the game start can be adapted mid-build into something more useful.

Thank yall so much for doing the bonus song pack I have wanted them for years, I hope that the other games do similar things for the preorder/ expansion pass bonuses

Highlight of the patch notes: upgrading equipment with MIO bonuses doesn’t cost XP & it automatically updates the production line
What about cheapening the cost to design a division, cut everything to 20%, when you've finally researched what you wanna stick in your tank division having to spaff out like 150 xp takes the piss

To my comment on airborne armored vehicles. The A25 E2 Alecto that you have in the models was supposed to be used in conjunction with the Baynes Bat glider. And also on the basis of the A25 E2 Alecto, there were developments Mk.I - armed with a 95-mm howitzer Ordnance Q.F. 3.7-inch Howitzer, Mk.II - armed with a 57-mm cannon Ordnance Q.F. 6-pounder, Alecto Dozer and also Alecto APC all still within the framework of air transportability. Well, I see excellent special projects.

Kind of disappointed the prototype vehicles pack is pure art, with a little scripting maybe for the saved designs. I know, gives the artists something to do. One small change that has been suggested before which would go a long way here is to display the name of equipment the model or 2D card is supposed to represent in the designer, instead of having to guess what "Tank #3" is.. even the biggest WW2 equipment buffs on this forum would be hard pressed to identify them all, much less some casual player.

Less having to spend xp and click around upgrading MIO is good, but I'm still concerned for the naming schemes. You fixed "Mark 0" but there are still strange results and inconsistencies when I upgrade equipment.
