Seeing how CK3 and Vic3 had less than stellar releases, with some very noticeable omissions and downgrades from their previous iterations (let's not get into details here, it's besides the point), it'd be fair to be reluctant at the prospect of an EU5.

However, that doesn't seem to be the case here at all.
From the top of my head, I can't remember any mechanic EU4 did better than what we've seen so far from EU5.
(I say mechanic because there are other more peripheral changes I'm not such a big fan of, like UI style, but I don't believe it's worth to focus on it here.)
It's quite the opposite actually, many mechanics are actually a huge step up from EU4.

So, what do you think?

I hope that the technology research will be able to have multiple researches done at the same time. Otherwise you get the issue where it's a shared resource between production/society/military and 9/10 times for larger MP games if you don't prioritize military you're going to be crushed.

Why you think that EU4 country boni are better than EU5 ones?
The EU4 country bonus' you get from national ideas are front and centre, they're what you check when you first click a nation, they are unavoidable during play (as long as you play long enough)

In EU5, they're sorted into a list;

of unique advances you get through the tech system, and you don't have to take them at all if there's something more valuable available.

Personally I think thats much better. EU4s ideas forced a certain playstyle and made you inefficient if you choose a different style. Here you still get those ideas if you wanna choose the historical path, but you can divert too and choose something more optimal for the playstyle youre aiming for

The visual presentation could and should be improved, but "they are unavoidable during play (as long as you play long enough)" vs "you don't have to take them at all if there's something more valuable available" is IMO a big improvement for EU5. If you play a country in a similar way and direction as in our history you have the option to get unique, flavourful bonuses but whenever you diverge you aren't stuck with unfitting, useless modifiers. Say, as Great Britain I don't want to be good at navy and colonization just because I'm GB but because I focus on related advances (both generic and unique). And if this time I'm aiming for a continental empire and don't need big navy nor do I colonize anything I'm not penalized with worthless bonuses, I can spend my research on different advances.

When I get the third idea of a set, it is a dopamine hit that I have just unlocked my first national idea, and I wait till that point to read the flavour text associated with it.

That will be missed

Out of curiosity- can you hover over each advance and see its details? It would be a shame if not.

Impossible to know without playing but I'm guessing modding. It's going to require a major effort to do large scale mods with the amount of detail going into the map, systems, and populations.

Something like Anbennar will likely have many people working on it as a team, but I expect that sort of thing will be a vanishingly small minority. I think the effort required may just be too high for most beginner level modders to get into.

The only other thing I'm concerned about is "fun". I'm hoping it's even better than EU4 (and suspect it will be), but as someone who has loved EU3&4, Vic2&3, CK2&3, etc. but honestly kind of loathes mods like MEIOU I worry that the game will be more work than play.
