i think its funny how the Game announcement thread has devolved into random talk because we are being starved of information on the release :D

Not even the treat of execution by scaphism could make me pick any other country than England/GB for my first many play throughs.

Admirable devotion, though the target is wrong. You will be a fine addition to our sect group after reprogramming.

You know what I'll say it. I think the Byzantine Tinto Flavor should have come out the same week as the game's release, because 99.8% of comments are just going to be Byzaboos and Romaboos arguing over what text is displayed on a screen regardless of historical or academic context and no one will be happy with it just being a (more than likely) client side modifier that changes said text. I feel sorry for whoever is tasked with actually going through the comments to find meaningful feedback that isn't just people arguing over the naming of a failed roman successor state when it's clear that the Ottomans are the true successor state (if you think that byzantium is a successor state, despite literally separating from what would be the actual heirs in a schism because they wanted to use greek instead of latin), by virtue of conquering the greek pretender state that fell 572 years ago.

(you can hopefully tell where I turn from actual criticism of people to schizo posting, if you can't, touch grass)

It has been 22 days since announcement without the game being released and I am unsettled

I will endeavor to post this message daily until I get my zombiefied claws on it

I personally want anyone who even merely entertains with the idea of pondering the ERE's naming in the funny map game to be rightfully mocked. For that, I fully support making every option description of that one setting to be passive-aggressively poking fun at the players. Even the Default option should have a witty remark.

The point you make is fair, but I think the insistance on things like "basileus" and "rhomanoi" culture is just silly. "Byzantium" as a term is used well when it's on the same level as "Weimar Republic". But insisting titles are referred to in their native tongue is like Turkey changing its English name to just its name in Turkish. Calling Greek by a Roman-centric name also has the problem where it is not easily recognizable and that identification was lost, instead being switched out for a Classical Greek one. Greeks themselves nowadays refer to themselves as Hellenes, and English has a funny Roman leftover (yes "Greek" is a Roman term).

Edit: the problem with "(Eastern) Roman Empire" is the signifier of government, which doesn't apply to other tags. Rhomania would be a better term IMO. Plus if Plethonism is pushed, you're fundamentally changing the state, and a tagswitch there to Hellas would be appropriate

It'd probably be fun... for people who tell their only joke at every occasion.
