A-plus mod.
I've been playing a Sweden for about three days now. Norway and Denmark were push-overs. Finland was a pretty tough fight. I allied Germany and sent my best generals to go get experience. Thornell, Douglas and Gustavsson all became Field Marshalls. Thornell is one of the best field marshalls in the game, at skill level 5 with 4 traits. Germany didn't declare war on the USSR in 1941 so in 1942 I declared war on the USSR for the Axis. I had about 100 divisions and Germany had 300 divisions and the other Axis minors had about 40 each. We outnumbered the Soviets but Germany's timidity led to Minsk and Riga being the only major targets being captured. On my front, I captured Murmansk and the rest of Karelia. Leningrad held out to my numerous assaults.
After the winter of 1942, I punctured the Soviet lines at Volkhov and surrounded Leningrad, except the SOB germans sneaked a tank division into Leningrad before I could get in there, even though I did all the fighting. Oh well. I turned around and pushed to Moscow. I control the north and west shores of Lake Rybinskye and the northern approach to Moscow. The timid Germans finally captured Kiev and Smolensk. After the thaw, I will try and encircle Moscow although Rybinsk has a huge stack sitting right on top of it. I will also try to capture Archangelsk but there is a significant Soviet presence there as well and its not as important as the big prize, Moscow. I wish the useless Germans would help me out some more.
The only things I wish I had done in retrospect:
*Use Mass Assault Doctrine. The war for me starts late, in 1941, so the 1939-1940 isn't that important. The war in Karelia is more about morale than manuever and the Russians have higher morale than I do.
*Build more fighters. My four fighter units are stretched with such a large frontier to defend against American bombers.
*Build more motorized divisions. I have a good amount but.... more would have been nice.
