UPDATE - 13 JANUARY
Now for a little double post, the first mod update. I turned the banners into shields:

The flag above will be used by Connacht. I've made lots of other country flags too, but you'll probably see them later on. :)

Nice work.

Would this mod include the Byzantine Empire? Or do you not feel like going that far east?(unless you are using same map, then the Byz are on there)

No, I don't think I'll go that far east. I'm working on a very detailed map of France atm, where Brittany is divided into its nine historical pays. As I've planned it, I'm pretty sure my map of Western Europe will have more provinces than the whole original one. Extending it by including Eastern Europe would probably cause lag. Sticking to Western Europe, however, will allow me to use a much larger map scale, making the mod more playable.

I found an image on Google that corresponds roughly to the area I'm planning to include. Cut out Iceland and maybe Denmark, add Austria and there you have it. Link to the image.

Yeah, if you keep Denmark you have to add Scandinavia, since Norway is owned by the Danes. Edit: Unless, of course, you are starting at the same date as the game begins

Not really. Norway was independant until 1319 when it came under Swedish control. Danish dominion didn't happen until the Kalmar Union.

UPDATE - 16 JANUARY
My first priority right now is to finish the map. I have looked into different ways to divide medieval Europe, but being historical and making a playable map at the same time is quite complicated. It doesn't matter if I use the borders of counties or dioceses, sooner or later I run into a region where these divisions turn out really ugly. The dioceses in England, for example, are terrible from a strategic point of view, with York being the only province leading to Scotland. I realised I had to make a division of my own, like in CK, where all provinces have roughly the same size. I started out with Ireland, naming my provinces after major cities.

Ireland.jpg

1 Tralee
2 Cork
3 Waterford
4 Limerick
5 Cashel
6 Galway
7 Athlone
8 Dublin
9 Mayo
10 Sligo
11 Donegal
12 Coleraine
13 Dundalk

I'm not that familiar with Irish history, so feel free to criticize my choices. :)

UPDATE - 17 JANUARY
I've put my map ingame. Sorry about the ugly borders, I haven't found my way around them yet. The unit positions are also somewhat unfinished.

Fantastic stuff there.

Nice work! May I suggest that you enlarge the map that will be playable a little? Just so that the armies don't look terribly big in comparison to the provinces. Good luck, I really hope that the province data won't wear you down.

Yesh. I am looking forward to playing Bradenburg with Rome stats. Also, a VV version would be awesome, because it's something completely unique to EU. Imagine, you are the USA. Now you have to worry about the congress on your back, as well as those not so good leaders aspiring to be president.

Thanks, it's great to have the support of an Irish High King (With Opposition) :p

I won't let any data wear me down. ;)
The units look a bit big, yes, but changing the map scale is pretty complicated. I don't think I'll do it. I had a long game with Munster last night, and I thought the map was quite playable as it was.

Brandenburg will be included, but why are you talking about the US?

The ugly borders could have two reasons.
1: Stray pixels. These are easy to spot ingame. Just select the provinces, and when they light up you can see if you missed a spot somewhere.
2: Border angels. These are really annoying. For some reason the game is unable to draw the borders correctly if the provinces connect at certain angles. Unfortunately I've found no way to testing this other than starting up the game with the 5 min. recalculation of paths hell. Neither have I detected a predictable pattern in which angles work and which doesn't. So you just have to keep redrawing the angles until the odd borders disappear.

Alternatively you can adjust the size of the unit sprite. Think this can be done in defines.txt

I don't think I'm having any stray pixels, but you're probably right about the angles. Just looking at the picture above, it seems the area around the broken border is indeed a bit rugged. Thanks a lot for the tip! :)

That's some interesting news! Which defines.txt do you mean btw, not the one in the common folder?
