Finish Iberia before Carthage gains too much from there and has a strong power base there set up. :)

Was involved in a war against them in the following update. Judging by what I saw of their generals and admirals, they will let anyone lead no matter how inept. Seriously the best one I saw had 3 martial

*Sigh* Rome...:eek:o

Anyways, that was a very fruitful war, any more of those and you will do a world conquer in no time. Your hardest opponent will be carthage no don't and so that is why you sould gain as much territory as possible. Those darned carthigians will want territory as much as you do.

See above, the Carthaginians I think want me to underestimate them the next time I face them.

Looks great, i especially like the work you put up in 'modding' ;)
I look forward to seeing more!

Glad you like it.

I'd say you're big enough to take on Carthage now, or nearly so... :)

If they continue to use the worst possible generals they can find, I don't see how they will pose any serious problem. Though I expect I will face someone who knows something about military matters, eventually.

The army was reformed, and without the need to pay for mercenaries the economy flourished. However these changes to the army was Cesarus last act, as he died due to illness. High Priest Megaravicos Culchid came to rule the Republic, but after nearly six years of rule he too died, the only notable thing accomplished by him would be the creation of an Ilergetan navy. The next ruler was Caucenus Auarosid, who ruler around a year, but lost power to Caros Mandonid, who most sources blames of having bought himself into power, and eager to make his mark, decided that the tribute paid by the Arevaci was insufficient, ended the payments and declared war on them.

Once again the Carpetani and the Lusitani supported the Arevaci, but without sending any armies. The Arevaci was soon driven away and Numantia was under siege. However the Arevaci general Leukon managed to keep his army intact, sough refuge in Cantabri, and from there launched an invasion of Vascones, smashing the Ilergetan army there, as well as taking control of the province. Despite this he could not prevent the fall of Numantia, and after some fighting he was driven away from Vascones which was recaptured, and the Arevaci ceased to be an independent power. By this time Audax Auarosid had been elected new leader, and he ordered the Ilergetan army to quickly advance against the Carpetani. In a swift campaign the Carpetani army was beaten and Toletum captured, the Carpetani agreeing to pay tribute. War with the Lusitani continued for a few years with no significant events.

Audax then decided to move against the Bituriges, for years they had caused trouble, and now the time to utterly humiliate them had come. The Republic ceased to recognize the tribute sent by the Bituriges, and declared war. The Bituriges could count on support from the Aulerci, Veneti and Carthage. However two years into the war the Aulerci chief Dumnocoverus annihilated the Army of Gaul, and soon they had overrun the Gallic holdings.

However after having raised more armies, and smashed a vast Carthaginian force that attempted to invade, the Ilergetans went on an offensive against the Aulerci.

In a few fierce battles the Aulerci army was crushed, and control of southern Gaul was being restored, and another large Carthaginian force was crushed. The Carthaginians who had shown great ineptitude in the waging of the war (by some sources they let the same general lead both invasion attempts, despite being completely incompetent in military matters) now felt it would be prudent to agree to pay a small monthly tribute to the Ilergetes. A few months later the Bituriges also agreed to pay tribute, however the new ruler, Megaravicos Auarosid, that had made the peace wth the Bituriges soon lost power to Megaravicos Ambonid.

Nice update, though only one of the pics work for me, the one right below where you say you're about to start your counter-offencive against the Aulerci... :(

Carthaginians paying tribute?!?!?

That was about how I reacted when they agreed to my demands. Demands I only made since I thought they would refuse another white-peace offer and just decided to demand some money so that they could feel justified in refusing. And they agreed...

Weird. Hope they appear without me having to do anything. Otherwise I might try uploading them again and see if that helps.

They're back! :D

Excellent colour changes! Though I see that you're using the traditional colour change technique - taking the offending territory.

Keep up the good work. Reduce those Bituriges to a part of your Republic. You'll need a bigger fleet to take on Carthage, mind you. The Treboci should be a ripe target with what you've got .

Megaravicos ruled the Ilergetan Republic 9 years. While Megaravicos was an experienced general, and had come to power thanks to his popularity in the army, his reign was a peaceful one, where alliances was established with the Cantabri and the Carpetani. It came as no surprise that as soon as they found the oppurtunity, the Carthaginians ceased paying tribute.

However many sought war, and so Audax Puinicid was elected. He undermined the previously good relations with the Vaccaei, and managed to provoke the Vaccaei in giving him a reason to declare war on them. The Vaccaei was supported by their Lusitani allies, as well as the distant Siluri. Outside Pallantia the Ilergetan and Vaccaean armies met in a massive battle. Although an Ilergetan victory, it was by no means a decisive victory.

After the battle the Cantabri was convinced to join the war, and they did tie up some Vaccean forces in the north. However one event that truly gave the Ilergetans the advantage was that Carthage declared war on the Lusitani, who was supported by the Carpetani and the Vaccaei. In this time Megaravicos led the bulk of the Ilergetan army against the Vaccaei in Vettones. In a fierce battles the Vacceai was victorious, but at a great cost.

The Vaccaei forces then rather then attempt to break the siege of Pallantia, marched south to battle the Carthaginians. After a siege lasting 301 days Pallantia fell to the Ilergetes. Soon Audax Punicid lost power, and Audax Culchid came to rule the republic. A slave uprising in Arevaci was crushed by the Edetani, and soon the Cantabri signed a white peace with the Vaccaei. In the following year the city walls of Ilerda was strengthened, and the Carthaginians decided they had lost enough, and managed to get a white peace with the Lusitani and their allies. While the Vaccaei and the Lusitani used this to bring forces north to face the Ilergetes, there was nothing they could do, and a few months later the Vaccaei leadership had to accept a humiliating peace. They lost Vettones, Asturias and Gallaicoi to the Ilergetes, while their Lusitani allies lost Brigantia.

A few years of peace passed, but eventually Audax and Megaravicos became rivals, and since more then half of the army was loyal to Megaravicos, Audax attempted to murder his rival. Slightly less then three years after the end of the war, Megaravicos was killed by Caros Auarosid, and Audax rewarded him by giving him command of the main army that Megaravicos had led. The other generals remained disloyal, and opposed to Audax. Three years later a boundary dispute occured between the Ilergetan Republic and their Edetani allies, after which the Republic laid claims on the Sedetani province.

Your last screenshot is the most bizarre map I think I have ever seen. I mean nothing in it is right! Definitely strange

Also that is probably the biggest tribe battle ever :p

The republic fares well. Have you thought of a union with Qart Hadasht?
Two friendly republics, a union from which everyone benefits?

As a lurker, I have enjoyed seeing Rome fall apart a few centuries early. In reference to Enewald, you shoul definitely join Carthage, go Punic, and play as them. With Carthage and Panormus as a base, you would basically be the only power in the Western Mediterranean other than Triboci and Bituriges. Not to mention, as a Carthagophile, I really want Carthage (and you) to succeed.

After Audax having ruled for ten years, he lost power to the wealthy Cesarus Ambonid who used his vast wealth to secure the position as ruler of the Ilergetes. Audax despised Cesarus, and consequently began working against him. In an attempt to improve his popularity Cesarus took the advantage of yet another war between Carthage and Lusitani to move against the Edetani. The reason for war was clear, the Sedetani province was held by the Edetani, but should rightfully belong to the Ilergetes. After a few months of preparations, war was declared against the Edetani who called for the aid of the Vaccaei. While it seemed unlikely the Republic would lose, the Edetani had enough men to cause some problem, however a large part of their army moved into Ilercavones, however lacking proper leadership that army was promptly crushed.

Although a sizeable Edetani remained and caused trouble in Lusones, it could not prevent the Ilergetes from besieging their cities, and their Vaccaei allies found themselves forced to agree to become a part of the Ilergetan Republic after the fall of Pallantia. Shortly thereafter Caros Auarosid, the conqueror of Pallantia was elected to lead the Republic.

However the war with the Edetani did not end until Saguntum fell after a long siege two years later. The Edetani had to not only cede Lusones, but also Belli as well as becoming a client state to the Republic.

Six year after he had lost power Audax Culchid once again managed to get elected leader of the Republic. However four years later Caros Auarosid was once again elected, since by then the Republic was involved in a war against the Carthaginians and the people had greater confidence in his military abilities then those of Audax. The war had started as the Carthaginians yet another time went to war with the Lusitani, however this time the Ilergetan Republic had guaranteed the independence of the Lusitani and therefore had a proper reason to intervene.

The war against Carthage went well, the scattered Carthaginian armies in Iberia was easily swept away, and the Carthaginian fleet was caught in an oppurtune moment and sent to the bottom of the Mediterranean. In the ninth year of the war, after Caros had led the Republic for eight years, the people elected Caraunios Culchid, the admiral responsible for the destruction of the Carthaginian fleet, to lead the Republic. As the tenth year of the war ended the Republic occupied the entirety of Carthaginian Iberia as well as the Baleares. However the Carthaginians refused the very reasonably offers of peace made by the Ilergetan Republic, since they still had vast armies, although none able to reach the Ilergetes at the moment, they were enough to give the Carthaginians hope that they could turn the war.

Union with the Carthaginians? Not until they have been thrown out of Iberia (except possibly Gadira, that they might keep)!

Megaravicos was like an Eisenhower then...

Good work, sir! :D

Well one difference would be that Eisenhower wasn't assassinated.

What about how it is now :p

And I agree at that being one of the biggest tribe battles.

Time to take more of the Buturiges.

Yes it is getting time to do that, those Bituriges love to annoy me with supporting rebels and assassinating people every now and then.

Take heart in the fact that regardless of what happens, Carthage will remain and in a much better shape then historically.
