0xc0000005 error on launch

Steam doesn't launch the game at all, executable gives the error message.

Started to get this since tuesday, changed absolutely nothing at all in the system. Did a clean reinstall, no effect. No idea what info to provide here.

What antivirus app do you use? Add steam.exe and ck2game.exe to its Exceptions list.

I use Avast. Added the steam directory tree to exceptions. Same 0xc0000005. Reinstalled the last windows updates too.

all other paradox titles running clausewitz work fine

Avast is a known problem with this game. Unfortunately you meed to uninstall it, and reboot. Check in Task Manager there are NO Avst processes still running, then reinstall and try CK2 again, it will probably work/ After that you can reinstall Avast, is it tends to respect apps that are already installed when it's installed.

Avast is a known problem with this game....

Just to share my experience:
I never had an issue with the game and Avast since i completely turned off the "game mode"
feature of Avast (settings -> components -> performance - game mode)...and probably restarting my comp right after.

Uninstalling Avast fixed the issue, turning off game mode did not. What a weird thing, I've been using avast for like 10 years and never had a single issue before. Any idea what's causing it btw? if it's not too difficult to explain

No, sorry, I've never used Avast. You should report the issue to them though.
