Yes, I have seen it.

It can be caused by two things.

1) You downloaded the patch for the wrong distributer version.
2) You have reinstalled Windows from scratch, thereby eliminating the installation info for your copy of HoI.

In both cases, your existing version will start happily, but the installer will not recognize that copy.

I have 2) happen to me several times, because I needed to reinstall Windows a couple of times recently. After reinstallation (or booting to a different Windows partition, which amounts to the same), HoI and EU2 are perfectly playable. Only the installer cannot locate them anymore. This case can be solved by reinstallation of your original CD

pcasey, Did jpd's info help you out?

I am having the same problem, but neither would be true for me, unless the game that I just bought was not the North American version. Is the problem that I installed the game on my second hard drive instead of my primary hard drive?

Patches actually go by publisher NOT geographic region.
So my question is who is the publisher of your game.
Whos logo is on the box and CD besides Paradox?

That was going to be my piece of advice. :)

I've had no luck with this. I did an uninstall, followed by a fresh install of 1.00 from the CD, but the 1.04 patch still failed to apply :(.

I even got ambitious and did a second uninstall, followed by a manual deletion of the HOI directory tree (the uninstaller left it behind). Still no joy, 1.04 wouldnt' install.

I even went ahead and re-installed the 1.03b patch, which installed perfectly. 1.04 *still* refused to admit that I had it installed though.

Sorry folks, but something is fubar with this installer. It sounds like it works for most people, but it definately doesn't work for me :(.

Have you tried to install to the default directory?

No game found.... the problem is the patcher doesn't allow you to point it to the .exe.... or is there a way to do that manually?

I just double click and get the error immediately.

Who is the publisher of your game? and which patch are you trying to install?

My CD reads:

Hearts Of Iron across the center top.

It has a brown/grey motif with pictures of the eastern US and west Europe on it.

It is rated E

It has three logos on it.

Paradox Entertainment (lower left)
Strategy First (slightly larger, lower center)
Infogames (lower right)

Copyright band reads as follows:

C 2002 Strategy First Inc. All rights reserved. Hearts of Iron is a trademark of Paradox Entertainment AB. All rights reserved. All other trademarks and copyrights are the properties of their repective owners.

It was purchased in San Diego, CA

I knew who your publisher was from the default directory you gave the question was directed to Chitown1811 whom I quoted. ;)
BTW you are sure it was the patch from the SF site that you downloaded right.

File Name:

HoI_1.04_EU_ENG_Update.exe

Size: 8310kb

The file runs just fine, it just tells me I don't have HOI installed when it runs. So the .exe probably isn't corrupt (else it wouldn't have run at all).

Edit: Doh, it just occurred too me. I have the UK version of the patch and the US version of the game. I'm going to download the NA version of the patch and see if that resolves the problem.

Yep, the NA version of the patch seems to work.

As a note, I got my version of the patch by following a link one of the mods posted over on the main boards. That link didn't offer a menu of possible patches, it just downloaded the UK version.

So, its possible other folks are having the same issue I did if that was their source for the patch.

Thanks for the help.

Always best to follow my links in the thread stickied above "Latest patch is 1.XX"

Glad we worked that out, now get back to conquering the world. :)

1) You downloaded the patch for the wrong distributer version.

Yup, I'm had the same problem. I downloaded the Asian version (being from Australia).

Hearts of Iton is not installed on your computer

Downloaded the UK patch. Same thing. Third time lucky with the US version and I am underway.

I didn't find any indication anywhere how to ID which version I had. From an above post it seems each version has a slightly different box design.

Maybe it would good idea to have a sticky of some sort, explaining which version is which. I'm just glad I have broadband, and the downloads did not take that long. I would of been spitting chips if I had been on a 56K. :D

Patches are based on the publisher, which is identified in the sticky thread above. Just look on your box and see who's logo in on it or on the CD.

My problem still hasnt been resolved

My specs for computer are as follows

1.67Ghz AMD AthlonXP
GeForce 4 Ti 4200 128 MB (Newest Driver, downloaded 2 days ago)
10Gigabytes free space
512 Samsung DDR Memory

I still dont know what the problem is. I downloaded every version of the 1.04 and it still gives me the same error (in different languages). The 6 or 7 files I downloaded were from Paradox. Does that matter? I have all the bugs of 1.00 version and it sucks :(

Trying to apply wrong patches is not a good idea.

Who is the publisher of your version?
You can tell that by looking at the logos on the CD.
One will be Paradox and one of the others will be the publisher.
