Hi gents,

Ever since I've upgraded AoD to 1.05 standard, I've been unable to cope with facing everyday expenses.

As France in the 1936 scenario, and even with the Conciliatory World View that is supposed to give me +20% Money production, I end up with expenses over 100$ a day as soon as I fill up my research slots.

100$ a day is quite a sum when the available IC is around 80. And the fact is, I can barely produce 60. And when I say I can, that means setting Production/Upgrades to a bare minimum, maximizing IC through Ministers and ideologies, clamping down on civilian/military salaries to the point dissent stagnates, and toying with the Interventionnism/Isolationnism cursor to try to curb civilian expense down.

Needless to say, with a deficit of 40$ a day, funds available for research rapidly disappear, making it impossible to do anything until 1939, when peacetime IC caps are slowly lifted. The only -and extremely gamey - way I've been able to function normally has been to declare war to Bolivia, as it is faraway and unlike Nationalist Spain cannot be conquered by my allies. Only war gives enough oxygen to my comatose economy, and by then it is of course too late to catch up.

So... Is this really working as designed? Am I missing something? Or is there a technical issue with the update? Have any of you had similar issues, playing France or another country?

Reduce tech spending.

I ended up doing that, and it eventually stabilized to levels I could cope with. This 1.05 patch really makes a difference, I didn't remember having much trouble with running the 1.04 economy. Now instead of setting the cursors at the desired levels and basically forgetting them, I have to keep an eye on the money generated, and the allocation of resources throughout the game. Interesting!

Also, the German AI is a lot better - I never had serious pushes into the Maginot Line before, let alone successful ones! :D
