1.08 Crashes to Desktop

Is it just me, or do others find that, after patching to new version 1.08, the American version of the game now frequently crashes to the desktop, about once very hour. The original box version seemed to be much more stable with just an occasional crash, maybe once every 4-5 hours. How's the stability for the rest of you?
 
It crashes. I'm thinking about re-installing to back out 1.08.
 
Same with UK version.

I get the same here, no correlation with any background apps and such I'm running, it crashes with or without them. Cant say for certain but it seems to be particularly vulnerable to crashes during large wars, particularly right after the wars are declared (though that's an educated guess at best). Run a whole battery of tests on my computer and everything seemed to be in order,up to date,etc.
 
Well, my experience is quite a different one. After installing 1.08 I haven't had ONE SINGLE multi- or singleplayer crash in maybe 40 hours of total playing time. Before 1.08 I had loads of crashes to desktop, sometimes crashing as much as 3 times in an hour.
 
1.08 crashes about the same amount as my boxed 1.07, in other words too often! However my crashes normally occur late in a major war (sometimes when I accept a peace offer from an AI country)or when loading a save game when in campaign play.
 
I'm having way too many crashes as well. It seems to me that it is connected to mousedown and keydown events (ie. activating a province or pressing 'g' to merge selected armies). Last night I tried playing through 1599 three times before I gave up (I probably needed the sleep anyway :) ).

My gut feeling is, that the situation has worsened with 1.08 - but I have no facts to support this.
 
I've found that the crashes in single player have been less frequent but it still crashes a lot in Multiplayer.
I noticed that it's crashed 3 times when I tried merging 3 armies together... other times it just crashes to desktop without warning.... its pretty frustrating
 
1.08 crashing

I've found that it crashes about as much on my machine (Pentium IV, DVD player, 128megs memory, etc) as 1.07 did. I tend to think of it this way:

1) I've been playing too long anyway. And I have it on yearly autosave, so what the heck, it's [insert diety here]'s way of telling me to get a life.

2) Hey, second chance! to do all that stuff that year again!

3) Stand up. Stretch. Look: there's some sky! birds! people!
 
ditto here, five-o. Haven't had a crash since the upgrade...different strokes for different folks...
 
Playing Single Player only, I've only had two 'crashes' with 1.08.
1. When I try to use some of the Commands, especially attempts to Associate a chosen unit with a number and then use it - crashes to desktop every time.
2. When I shut down voluntarily, about 75% of the time after hitting the last Exit tab I go back to desktop (as I should) but get a message saying 'Program has performed an illegal action and has shut down'. Since the shutting down was the indicated and expected action, I have no idea if this is a bug or a crash!
 
no crashes..

I installed 1.08 patch (american version) and played the game for a while, then it crashed.. so I was pissed.. but oh well, I had read somewhere about having it auto save every year so I enabled that option, ok ok, it doesnt autosave the first 3 years but after that the game saves just fine every year and ontop of it all! the game STOPPED crashing.. I havent had a single crash for over a week and i've play for up to 12 hour/session at times.. and i play every day :)
 
Mine used to crash occasionally, but after 1.08 and tweaking my system it's stopped for the most part, or about as good as you can get with Windows. I only have 64 MB of ram, so I have Fog of War on and everything turned off startup except explorer and systray, with autosave every year. When it DOES crash, it's usually on a mouse click. I have noticed that the frequency of these crashes went down considerably when I deleted the extra stuff from startup. Hope this helps...
 
Same problem here..in 1.07 and 1.08 It doesn't seem to make much difference if I close everything in the background or not. I usually do a restart and close everything in the background and get about 90% resources free but when I click on something..doesn't seem to matter what...crash to desktop. Sometimes I can play for hours and sometimes for minutes.
 
Inceased crash frequeny since 1.08 patch

I never had problems with crashes to desktop - but now since the 1.08 patch the crashes are more frequent. Specially when the game reaches higher years (1650 and up)in GC, the crashes increased to once every few hours at least. Sometimes I don't do anything, no mouse click no nothing, just let it only run an the game crashes to desktop. Then I restart the game through 'autosave' file or previously saved file, let it run again and no problem.

I am playing the german version, my system is a PIII 550MHz, 256MB RAM, Voodoo 3 3000, Win98SE german and directX 7.0a german.
