i downloaded the 1.08 from another site. now the 1.08 patch is in a zipped file on my desktop and it has not updated my EU2. how do you apply the 1.08 to the game? In upper left corner it still says 1.00. please help.

The mere act of downloading the patch zip file does not apply it. You must then extract it to reveal the file eu2_1.08.exe, which in turn you must execute to copy the updated files over the old ones.

How you extract eu2_108eu.zip to get the .exe depends a little on your OS and what utilities you use, but usually double-clicking on the .zip will extract it, or open up the Winzip application which you can use to extract the .exe from the .zip

Did you get it sorted?

Unfortunately, I have yet to successfully apply the 1.08 patch to my EU2. Downloading the patch has not been a problem. But I am completely new to computers(I went online for the first time just two weeks ago),and I have no idea how to apply the 1.08 patch once I have downloaded it. What I am really looking for is step by step instructions on how to apply the patch to EU2. I have finished the tutorial and manuel and I hope to be playing soon, still I do not want to play the 1.00 version when the 1.08 version is available. Also I was wondering what a beta patch is. I also wanted a veteran opinion on the question of what nation would be a good selection for a beginner's first game and why. Thanks a lot. I hope to be playing my first 1419 campaign soon.

Is your operating system Windows XP?

Okay find the patch file you downloaded.

Right click on it.

A popup menu appears

Select Extract

A dialog box appears.

it asks you the location where you want to extract the files to.

the default will be a new folder that is contained in the current folder the file is in now.

This is fine for our purposes here. So hit next button.

The program should now being extracting itself

Basically a "Zip" file is one or more files that have been compressed down to make them smaller for transmission over the internet, In order to uses these files you must then uncompress them. XP has built in software to handle this form of compression, you may need special programs to uncompress other types, such as RAR, these special programs are available for free download at various sites. That is not important now though.

Once it is finished you will notice that you have a new folder in the current folder you were looking at, Or on the desktop if you had downloaded the file to there. Click on that folder to open it, it should contain an EXE file, these are the type of file you can run directly.

So now just double click on it and it should run a little program to patch your game to 1.08.

You can then delete either the ZIP file or the EXE file, or both. However I usually keep one copy so I Do not have to look for or Download the patch if I uninstall the game and want to reinstall it. In which case I would need a fresh install from the CD and then reapply the patch to the new install.

Hope this all made sense, let me know what you need clarification on.

When I download the patch it no longer appears in a zip file. Instead it appears as a desktop icon which says Eu2_1[1].08. I guess I do not need to extract. But when I click on the icon it does not say anything about an EXE file. It brings me to an instalation/set-up screen. I choose the Finish option and the process stops. I then click on my EU2 desktop to start the game. But when I get to the screen that gives the option of tutorial, single player, etc I look in the upper left corner and it still reads EU2v1.00 instead of EU2v1.08. Does the process of applying the patch look like the instalation screen of installing EU2? Could I have the 1.08 without the top left screen showing so? What test can I do to know if the 1.08 patch is installed? Thanks again for responding and helping me out.

The 1.08 Patch is not installed, and downloading it will not change it's format, please try what I told you, right click on the file and choose extract.
