Since mid-April, the Patrician retinue and autosave bugs have forced me and others to not play CK2.

The game is unplayable, meanwhile the devs are hard at work getting The Old Gods DLC ready for release soon. I normally don't rant or complain, but the lack of urgency in the response and the lack of any fix for several weeks has really made me question my decision to buy this game and all of its major DLCs.

Though I'd like to buy the upcoming DLC, why should I reward Paradox for not fixing the game after weeks of patience?

I've never had a game unplayable for this long in a decade of gaming, and for that, I am quite frankly shocked that there isn't more of a backlash from the community, or a quicker fix.

My patience has ended and PDS has lost its credibility with me.

I'm massively disappointed too - even the option to roll back to the last patch would have been a step forward.

I wanted to play multiplayer CK2 with my brother but this issue put him off buying it.
We're now playing Sins of a Solar Empire - Rebellion, with the Star Trek mod.

Have to agree on this. I have not touched the game since March and I will not buy the expansion until this gets fixed and I have confirmation from the community that it has been fixed.

+1, can't play without disabling the very DLCs I want to play...

In the meantime life moves on and we all discover sunshine, trees, green fields, fresh air, harmony... stuff like that... ;)

Had to give up on a rather fun game i had started before the patch.
Add some frustration i had with victoria 2(more a problem of poor game design than an acctual bug) and i realy doubt i will spend any cash on a paradox game soon, a shame as i was getting hyped for east vs west and the new EU.

Always copy a version of your patched game outside Steam and you're save.

Bsides that you can try to play without retinues or patrican retinus specifically, play not above speed 3 and manually save every year.
Though i agree that it's sad they didn't offer a hotfix.

Still not the end of the world. Let's see how far i get with my game. Got a crash once outside of a 'leaving for menu' crash i usually experience after playing several hours.
Also still have to experience the autosave crash...or better not.

PS: Somehow i sense this advice not to be wanted in this rant thread. ;)

No
Sorry but no

I am amazed how much crap people take from gameing companies today, it has become almost a norm to release games as an unfinished mess and just fix it later, all while pumping out some dlc.
I remind you that we payed money for this game and we should be able to play it without constant crashes or without jumping though the convoluted loops steam has in store for you when you whant to not update the game, just so you can play.
While i still not understand why it is so hard to not update a game(not doing something is apparently harder than doing something these days) it gives the developers even more of a reason to acctualy make sure their patches do not brake the game before putting them out.

If it looks like im on a mad rant here, thats because i am, and so should you.
This "Mhe it sucks but ill just go with it anyway" attitude will only encourage the developers to release more cash in dlc while neglecting proper updates for the game since you will go with it anyways.

Do even have a clue how development works in games? It's not just one giant cycle where they can add and fix content at will. A deadline is met where they can no longer add anything or fix it and it's set to release. That said, a hotfix would be great to fix the crashing on saves.

Bought this yesterday, with all expansion DLC's, and fulled patched through steam. No crashes so far, played several hours without problems. Am I doing something different? I just don't see the brokenness yet.

Wait until a Patriarch dies. Then you'll get problems.

I take it you mean patrician. Question, is this with or without the Republic DLC, and if it is with, does unselecting it help. just curious.
There are two mor or less officially recognised crash issues, one autosave and one to a heirless retinue owner dying. As these are usually patricians you could mod the files or
simply start the game without the LoR DLC.

^ I agree with this and every game has an issue in it, there is no perfect game, and there will never be a perfect game without issues. I have played a lot so I have been getting my money's worth, if you have bought it in a sale you probably have gotten your worth out of it or if you didn't get your worth, should have done more research for your product or the history behind the developers before buying. We bought a game, we played the game, and that is what you get. If you refuse to save every so often or if you refuse to believe in being safe and saving, it is your own fault.

I would not go so far as " that is what you get", seems a little too resigned. However, I would say that some people badmouthing the company about this just because they didn't send a fix instantly also goes too far. I see the devs asking about the problem, responding to posters, and doing an overall good job of dealing with the issue. It might just be a very complex issue that is taking time to fix ,without risking causing another glitch in the process. Try to be patient.

Do you actually know what the two types of crashes are in the first place? It seems you don't? This has nothing to do with research or whether you bought the game on sale as opposed to paying full price. It was the last patch introduced these issues. They were not there at the original game release (at least for me). It has become a frustrating experience for me as I have shelved the game since March as I seem to have both issues and it is completely random as to when it decides to crash timeline wise.

It is not very fun when you are 100 years in and it starts to crash.

I cannot really understand people who defend this, yes every game has flaws and bugs. However when companies take as long as Paradox have with these two game-breaking issues I and probably most others feel we have the right complain about it. What has it been now, a month since this most recent patch was released? No word when a fix might come and they have yet another DLC on the horizon. To me it feels like they put all their eggs into the DLC basket and won't focus on these other issues until this new DLC is done.

They've had more than ample time to fix this, that's fact. I do believe they released a message telling us they know about the problem, but that was weeks ago. How long are we as customers going to have to wait until we can actually use the product we bought again?

I would presume that if it was a simple solution, it would have been fixed immediately.

Since it hasn't been fixed immediately, I would think there is something complicated causing it to be difficult to prevent.

Not all problems are easily fixed. This is a complex game, with multiple combinations of DLC that people are utilizing. sure they haven't released a fix yet, but I have seen several posts the devs have been asking for more reports to figure out the source of the problem to fix it. What would happen if they fixed this issue and because of that fix another problem was caused? Answer: You would all get into another fit about it, wouldn't you. It's been a month, I've seen worse when it comes to patches in waiting. My suggestion: Try to be constructive, continue to test out the game and report anything else that causes the crashes to them so they can isolate the issues. Let's calm down a bit.
