I would presume that if it was a simple solution, it would have been fixed immediately.

Since it hasn't been fixed immediately, I would think there is something complicated causing it to be difficult to prevent.
"Between those two savegames we think we've found the bug" (from here)
That was a month ago.

I've even solved it crudely in Project Balance by simply disabling retinues for patricians. It surely can't be that hard to fix when the exact cause is known (a retinue owner dying without an heir).

And you say that after, what, 12 or 13 patch releases in the first year? Sometimes hot fixes within a week or two? Who else provides that level of commitment?

Every major DLC has been accompanied by a bug-fix release. Or, to put it another way, every DLC has been held back until a bug-fix patch has been ready.
I don't think anyone can deny Paradox did really well on the patching front last year.
I also don't think anyone can deny that Paradox has dropped the ball by leaving major crash bugs in the game for almost two months.

They have simply been unable to diagnose the autosave issue, as they are not seeing it (neither am I, for the record). They didn't want to release a hotfix for just the retinue issue - which may have been a mistake, in retrospect, but I guess the thought was releasing a hotfix which didn't fix a known crash was very undesirable too.
I used to have the autosave issue for time to time, but haven't in a long while...
Come to think of it, perhaps it is connected to the retinue issue? I don't believe I've had a single save crash since I disabled retinues for patricians in my mod. Though that might of course just be coincidence, it does seem a bit strange as I had it crash while saving a dozen or more times before that.

And yeah; I'm not saying they're being malicious or anything, but leaving the retinue issue in for so long really doesn't reflect well on them.

Now, I will ask this. I've heard both so I am looking for clarification. which dlc is the trigger on the retinue issue: Rome, republics, or both? Without dlc, I assume people are not having this issue, correct? Just wondering so I might be able to decide on which dlc to switch off for now if that is the main issue.
Legacy of Rome, as the issue is connected to retinues, which only exist if you've got Legacy of Rome.

Come now, people can't wait four days?! even if they fixed it with a hotfix now, you would barely have time to play a full game before having the next patch mess up your savegame. I just turned off republics and Rome and am playing Muslim or other Christian rulers for now. Personally I don't see much difference, and I could care less about retinue. That's me , but I'm me.
The thing is that we were made to wait two months, not that we're now waiting another four days.
And this thread was started twelve days ago.
