I just wanted to tell you guys about a cool strategy in 1.18.

I'm, currently playing QQ going for the Arabian coffee achievement. ( I know that's a bit odd )
The Ottoturks bulied me early and took some provinces, they were hostile and had the mission take mesopotamia.

So I was in this sticky situation and had to think about a solution, I didn't really find one and just waited on speed 5 to die, when suddendly I realised, that the turks had changed their attitude to domineering.
I was wondering what made them become domineering, I eventually realised that I felt technologicaly really far behind, thus beeing far enought behind for the Turks to make ma a protectorate.

I offered to become the turk's protectorate, adapted the Renaisance and became free again.
In the first month of beeing free the turks were friendly towards me, thus I was able to get an Alliance with them, which saved my ass.

TL; DR : being in trouble ? Get behind in tech, offer to be protectorated, catch up in tech, get an alliance with your ex. threat. GG EZ

Yeah it's an imbalance of how the game interprets institutions and tech levels. I was playing as Malay and got to the point where I had colonies in Siberia, Australia, Africa. Had the largest navy in the world, top 5 army, etc etc. Pegu was my neighbour, they had only eight provinces maybe, but they were one institution ahead of me and therefore became domineering.
