fubar
as above, in the registry go to HKEY_LOCALMACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENT VERSION/APP PATHS
right click on the app paths folder and select 'new', then 'key'. name it 'hoi2.exe'
then right click on the new hoi2.exe folder and select 'new', then 'string value'. name it '(Default)' and then double click on it and paste "C:\\Program Files\\HOI2\\HoI2.exe" into the value field
then right click on the hoi2.exe folder again and select 'new', then 'string value'. name it 'Path', double click on it and paste "="C:\\Program Files\\HOI2\\" into the value field
exit out and run the patch, it worked for me. gaute65 said "Take backup off your register before you do anything with the register" but i couldn't find this and am hoping its not too serious if ignored . . .
Thanks for the advice, Daztek. Your description was very useful for me. Here is what I did however. First of all, not everyone's game will be in the same location probably. For example, as I pointed out, my game is located at C:\Games\Doomsday. So here's what I did.
1. I opened the registry editor with Start -> Run, typed 'regedit' and pressed enter.
2. In the registry, I went to HKEY_LOCALMACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENT VERSION/APP PATHS
3. I right-clicked on the folder and selected New -> Key and named it HoI2.exe
4. Since there was already a (Default) string value in this folder, I double-clicked that and entered C:\Games\Doomsday\HoI2.exe
5. I right-clicked on the HoI2.exe folder again and selected New -> String value, named it Path, double-clicked it and entered C:\Games\Doomsday\ here.
6. I closed the registry and patched my game.
Please note that I modified Daztek's directions to suit my own situation and that instead of all the double '\' in his directions, I just used single ones (mainly because that's what all the other registry keys look like in my case).
After these modifications to the registry, I was able to execute the 1.3a patch successfully!
