Click start->run. Type regedit-> enter.

Open : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\App Paths\

If hoi2 does not exist, add it, then open that folder and add register key.

Take backup off your register before you do anything with the register.

Thanks Gaute65. I just need to make sure that this is right.

1. I open with regedit
2. Since I have hoi2 in my register already, do I need to modify the current key or do I add another key?
3. Do I copy paste the info posted above ("Path"="C:\\Program Files\\HOI2\\"
@="C:\\Program Files\\HOI2\\HoI2.exe") directly into the registry?

Thanks again for any help that can be given.

fubar

as above, in the registry go to HKEY_LOCALMACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENT VERSION/APP PATHS

right click on the app paths folder and select 'new', then 'key'. name it 'hoi2.exe'

then right click on the new hoi2.exe folder and select 'new', then 'string value'. name it '(Default)' and then double click on it and paste "C:\\Program Files\\HOI2\\HoI2.exe" into the value field

then right click on the hoi2.exe folder again and select 'new', then 'string value'. name it 'Path', double click on it and paste "="C:\\Program Files\\HOI2\\" into the value field

exit out and run the patch, it worked for me. gaute65 said "Take backup off your register before you do anything with the register" but i couldn't find this and am hoping its not too serious if ignored . . .

Thanks for the advice, Daztek. Your description was very useful for me. Here is what I did however. First of all, not everyone's game will be in the same location probably. For example, as I pointed out, my game is located at C:\Games\Doomsday. So here's what I did.

1. I opened the registry editor with Start -> Run, typed 'regedit' and pressed enter.

2. In the registry, I went to HKEY_LOCALMACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENT VERSION/APP PATHS

3. I right-clicked on the folder and selected New -> Key and named it HoI2.exe

4. Since there was already a (Default) string value in this folder, I double-clicked that and entered C:\Games\Doomsday\HoI2.exe

5. I right-clicked on the HoI2.exe folder again and selected New -> String value, named it Path, double-clicked it and entered C:\Games\Doomsday\ here.

6. I closed the registry and patched my game.

Please note that I modified Daztek's directions to suit my own situation and that instead of all the double '\' in his directions, I just used single ones (mainly because that's what all the other registry keys look like in my case).

After these modifications to the registry, I was able to execute the 1.3a patch successfully!

Many Thanks!

I have no idea what all that regedit stuff actually does, but I am so grateful that there are computer experts out there that are willing to help us make these things work. I'm sure it's something ridiculously easy for you guys, but I'm a 42 year-old guy who thought about doing computer stuff 20 years ago but chose something easier. I thought I could keep up with technology, but it's just starting to go too fast for this old man...

Thanks again! If you ever need help with your Philosophy homework, let me know...

This patch was the worst update I ever had to do. A simple 20 mb file took me over an hour to get it to work with my downloaded Doomsday game.

I DON'T want to uninstall the game and dl a new version. Why did they release an unsupported version in the first place? Is this the support I get when I give my money directly to Paradox instead of going out to the shop and purchase a boxed edition then I take my money elsewhere. I will think twice the next time I want a game from Paradox... So i tried to patch it anyway....

I tried everything in this thread with no effect. Error ,can't find .. game not installed..... You name it, I propably got it. I discovered that after each error the patch cleans/changes the registry so that I had to do the registry edit again....and again....and again...........

After 1 hour I had a reg file to get the right path into the registry quickly so I could try the patch again.

DD.reg:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\hoi2.exe]
"Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Games\\HOI2Doomsday\\"
@="C:\\Program Files\\Games\\HOI2Doomsday\\hoi2.exe"

The thing that made the patch work was selecting the HOI2Doomsday folder and removing the read-only flag from all the files in the folders. Success! Patched and done!

Another hour wasted on sloppy programming....thanks!!!!

I'm having the same problem. I have ZTORM's DD version 1.2. When I try patching I get the following error: "Doomsday is not installed on your computer. Please install the game before installing the update. The Installation will now exit."

DD IS installed, thank you very much. I guess I'm having this error. I'll edit my registry and see what happens.

EDIT: Following the instructions posted in this thread, I've edited my registry according to the path where my game is installed and I was able to install the patch.

Phew! Thanks to all of you.

1.3

I just down-loaded ho2dd this evening (v1.00) from GamersGate. After several unsuccessfull attempts at "up-dating", my wheels were starting to spin-who to blow off steam to. I just registred here tonight in anticipation of asking for help.

I decided to try the down-load one ore time-it worked. I confirmed a proper install. Whatever he problem was, it is fixed. I really did not want to mess with the registry this evening. I'm one lucky guy.

btw, what a game; this is my first trip down HOI lane.

Have just transfered Doomsday from my old pc (that has just about died) onto my shiny new machine that has come complete with Windows Vista. My copy of Doomsday was a cd version which I managed to leave in a hotel somewhere in the Middle East a few months ago (don't ask). So having braved Windows Easy Transfer to move the game files across my network and been delighted to find the game fired up OK I decided to patch the game to 1.3...

And then I got the dreaded "failing to see game" message. Not being in a position to reload the game this was a problem so I was pleased to find a thread that promised to help. Like James Mason I am striding manfully into my 40's so editing the registry is a somewhat scary proposition - however all is well despite having to mod the instructions to suit the actual location of the game on my machine.

Actually the only difficult part was finding "Run", which our chums at Microsoft have now hidden in Vista to try and avoid people like me wrecking their pc.
So thanks to all the thread contributors for the help with this.

Before I build myself a timebomb: I've just downloaded and installed DD; do I need to patch? If so, which patch?

Also, I don't see a search function for the forums. My first attempt at playing ground to a halt when I was unable to see CAG as a choice under Naval builds.

I cannot change the read-only property for the folder under Vista. If anyone could help me please :)

Hey everyone,

I have recently bought Hearts of Iron, Doomsday. I installed it on my computer. So far, however, I can not update beyond patch 1.1.

As soon as I install 1.2, hearts of iron stops working. It says - Error in DB -. What do I do? Where can I find ZStorm's version of patch 1.2? I think I need that!

When I install 1.3 on top of that it does not work either, nor does 1.3a. Can I install 1.3a seperately? Without installing 1.1 and 1.2? Would that work?

Is there any version that is not compatible with Vista? I have also re-edited the routes to Hearts of Iron. I have not installed hearts of Iron in Program Files. Could that be the problem?

I am kind of at loss. I have tried uninstalling the game and installing the patches over and over again, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

You have to be careful, are you sure you used the correct 1.2 and 1.3 patches?

There is a 1.2 patch for HOI2, Doomsday and Armageddon and they are NOT compatible.

Use the links on this page to make sure you have the proper version of the patch for your game.

I don't know what ZStorm's version of the patch is, you need the official one either way.

Hey,

I appreciate it. I am fairly convinced I used the right ones. I am going to use the link you send to give it another shot. Do I need to install 1.1 and 1.2 first or can I go ahead and install 1.3a?
