There has been a lot of speculation about how starting the scenario at this point would fix a whole bunch of issues. I would tend to agree with that idea and am thinking of trying to organize a mod based around this idea. I have worked on mods for other paradox games and many other games so it should be fairly easy, but I am a little worried about the complexity of some of the startup files (and the possibility of having to do everything over again if there are siginifcant changes in the 1.05). I am wondering what peoples input is and if anyone wants to help. The main two things I will be focusing on will be reworking the Byzantine and Spainish situations. Luckily I have an extensive library at my disposal :).

Amen. I came onto the board just now hoping that someone would be working on such a project. It seems like the 1066 start would be great if you could play Muslims (playing the Seljuks and trying to topple Byzantium should be fun), but with the country choices restricted to Christian principalities and such, it's no fun to play the big guy who doesn't have any problems. The Near East situation seems more or less crippled, and we can all agree that the Near East is an important region for the game (or at least should be).
If there's anything research-wise I or any of the other folks who have complained about the setup can do to help, let us know. I know nothing about how to edit the game per se, but there a lot of folks who do.
