I noticed this too - tick the uppermost box in the list for "Auto set production sliders" to make the red & green arrows appear. I think that's different than 1.07, but I always play with auto set on so there's no difference for me...
Brilliant, thanks that worked a treat. :)
The radius, i.e. the maximum range that unit (either air or naval) can reach.
Is there any way to overcome this? I'm playing as Australia and wanted to help out in Africa but my boats wouldn't go that far, even though I'm pretty sure supplies and oil would last. Would docking at some frieldy intermediate port help? Are there researches available to improve range?

Sorry I know this isn't tech support, but there's not a massive amount of AoD "how to play" documentation, and I have read quite a bit of what there is, and some HoI 2 stuff as well. If there is somewhere better to read up on this or ask questions, then do point me in the right direction.

The range of a unit does not change unless you change the unit itself by upgrading to a more advanced plane. That is not available for ships. So you have to use multible rebasing.

Ok, thanks. I assume I have been accidentally overwriting modded files then. I did have the visibilty of subs reduced and on the other hand added tons of convoy vessels.
Can I ask you which values did you use, Solo? I'm playing a modded game as well these days but it seems like my changes didn't have the effect I was looking for (my subs keep being sunk/badly damaged at a too high rate).

I believe that the DD/sub relationship in the game for the classes of DDs is probably mostly correct.

The main problem as I see it is that because of 20/20 hindsight (even so with the AI since it has been designed that way to optimise its performance) has way too many modern DDs in play and all the latest naval doctrines for anti-sub warfare researched.

Recall, that by 1944 most U-Boat commanders saw it war a losing venture as did their bosses. The German U-boat crews as a group suffered ~75% death rate which was only exceeded by Japanese Kamikazes.

Sure, U-boats were still killing more merchant sailors then u-boat crews, but that was a choice for a sub to leave port to sink shipping whereas continuing to sail merchant ships for Britain was a necessity since they only produced enough food to feed themselves from Friday night to Monday morning in the British isles.

So, the solution for the gameplay is difficult here. I guess that means don't sail subs.

Hi Titan,

the changes I have done to the 1936 scenario are numerous. First I had the number of convoys/escorts increased for each country like in some other mods out there. Example: UK has 1700/100 USA 1250/150 and I also removed some of the old DD1 fleets on map (which are thereby converted into escorts). Then I decreased sub visibility (Model 0=8, 1=5, 2=4, 3=4). Increased sub ranges slightly (medium range is 3500, long range 5000). The long range sub is made a 1941 tech. Further I worked on the brigades. (Subs and DD can both have two brigades) I did invent a snorkel brigade that is activated with 1941 naval doctrine (wolfpack I believe) and this brigade reduces visibility by 1 and is deactivated by the electro sub. The ASW technology is set to start in 1940 (tied to radar development). With these settings we played a MP game GER vs UK and the battle in the Atlantic was really fantastic. As UK I lost around 1000 vessels (convoys + escort) before I had the seas under control. You really start finding and destroying german subs at the turn of 1941/42. Pretty close one, more losses and my supply routes would have been seriously damaged.

Thank you very much! I'll try these changes during my next game (it could take some time then, but still). No changes to the subs' ORG, however?

Hi guys,

I am new hear, a huge fan of AOD and I need help!
I just downloaded patch 1.08 and it is now in a folder on my desktop waiting for further actions ... but it seems I'm to stupid. Ijust dont know how to install it ... (just got the normal game version [CD] without any mods, patches ... etc.). Pls can somebody give me instructions !
thx!

best regards Sir

Edit:
Do I jst need to replace the old folders with the new one I downloaded? If so, what is with the folder "avi" witch I installed from the CD ... it is not part of the patch. Should I delete the old "avi"-folder or just dont touch it and replace what is new?
Sry for my bad english btw

Hi Sir,

you just need to unrar the whole content of the patch to your main AoD folder (i.e. ...\AoD\... or however have you called it) overwriting all the folders currently there. There shouldn't be anything new in the avi folder in 1.08, but if it asked you to overwrite it, go on without hesitation.

...and welcome to the forum and to AoD! (check also my signature when you have time ;) )

Hi Titan79,

thx for the fast help! It worked but now I have a new (bigger) problem. I cant save the game now anymore ... if i try to save (or if autosave trys) a window pops up which says for example:

"Critical error!

--- Couldn't open file:scenarios\save games\Deutsches Reich_1936_Januar_1.eug
---
Do you still want to continoue?

Abandon Try Again Ignore "

if I press try again, the game crashes ... if i press ignore it doesnt save :-/

I would appreciate your help for a second time ! :)

Best regards

Sir

ps: the patched game is awesome!! It's just WOW and feels completely new! :)

Try running the game as Admin (right click - run as admin) :)

If it is not steam I suggest installing the game somewhere else, rather than programs. I have made a folder in my harddrive called games where I put the game (C:\Games)

I had a problem with saving too, and either running it as admin or installing the game somewhere else solved my issue :)

Let us know if it works

I downloaded this game from Steam. My current version is 1.07

I downloaded the 1.08 patch but I have no idea how to install it. I unpacked the file into my AOD folder, but it just created another folder called 108 inside of my AOD folder. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: I'm a moron, I use a program called Knife .RAR to uncompress my files. I simply unchecked the box that said 'Create Cub Folder'. Things are working great now. Whoever was going to help, thanks for the consideration. :)
