weird thing

I'm playing the family "of Flanders" and now I'm Duke of Flanders, my strongest vassal was Jean of Flanders the whole time,

ok due to some bad timing the evil capets succeeded my dead duke (elective ;) ,

now it's not game over and I may continue as Jean - is this WAD (first question) - being the count of Brugge,

now in the meantime Jean remains the heir to the throne and I try to kill the Capet badass dude!

After 10 murder attempts it's time to dow the Capet because I got a claim on the title "duke of Flanders", so war begins =

It seems everytime I win a battle (as Jean), the game engine says "we lost a battle" and when some vassals dow the Duke of Flanders, the engine is saying "they've dow'd us",

so for some reason you continue to play Brugge but the feedback that's coming from the engine is still the Flanders feedback,

that's funny!

the best thing is that I ousted the capetian and got my duchy back, with a small demesne and no vassals any more :)

this is for sure a bug,

I never shouldn't be allowed to play Jean, as he only was a vassal to the capet DUke of Flanders,

however, Jean was the Capetian direct successor,

so that would solve the upside down situation with the engine feedback,

when Jean had taken back the title "Duke of Flanders" the game was working again as normal - without my vassals off course,

Would be nice to know if Jean is a he or a she.

It's WAD to continue playing your heir, no matter what title he holds. That message thing seems like a bug, though.

perhaps I explained bad,

the goal was to have Jean of Flanders (male) to be the heir (strongest vassal, elective). Due to some events, the second strongest vassal - some Capet guy - being count of Reims (or something like that) became the heir,

I didn't notice and my Flanders Duke died and the Capetian inherited the title, normally that would mean game over (my heir is from another dynasty).

So the buggy thing is that I continued playing Jean of Flanders (who is of my dynasty) who whas the intended heir - and I didn't get game over,

Some remarks =

- I started out as county of Bruges but went to duke of Flanders - so it seems that when you fail the Duke of Flanders title you are still in the game as Bruges,

- I reloaded and indeed the Capetian became the successor after a while (he was a strong vassal indeed),

So:

-you were a duke with elective law
-your son was a count
-there was a vassal stronger than him
-a non-related guy inherited the duke
-you continued to play as the count
-the game thought you were the playing the duchy

If that can be reproduced then there is a bug. The inheritance part is WAD, you do not continue as the heir of the character, you continue to play as the first heir of your ruler's dynasty not the first heir.

- yes,
- yes, but a minor count - Jean is not my son, but a relative - he has way better stats, so I gave him the best lands to become my heir,
- yes, the Capetian count got stronger (events?) at some moment,
- yes,
- yes, the title I started the 1066 game with,
- yes,

Jean was the first heir of my dynasty, indeed,

GH is correct that the inheritence things is WAD. To rephrase - you will continue if someone else in your dynasty has a title.

Edit: Including continuing with your current title with one of your "country cousins", as has happend to me. I died heirless, and with no successors - random, new lord is of my dynasty - *bingo* I'm still playing. Note, if your home demesnes is also the root for your dynastic name, this seems likely to occur...

title drop

title drop (degraded from king to duke, or duke to count) when your heir is from another dynasty results in a weird bug,

you get all the messages realtime adressed to your successor,

it's not the first time i've seen this,

so I was king of leon and had bad luck and became duke and when I was this duke I still got f.e. dow messages. In practice it wasn't me that was at war, but my heir to the crown of leon,
