I posted this in another person's thread, before being reminded that I shouldn't threadjack. This is the post I made there:

I have a similar problem. At 1:00 at any day end of august/beginning of september the game freezes. I'm using 1.2 with no mods. This didn't happen in previous patches but saved games from when it worked and passed this date freeze a few days after starting. When this happens, if I alt-tab I can see the mouse pointer but it disappears after a while and although I can hear things like Ctrl-Alt-Del working they do not appear. The music stops after the current track has finished. I have to turn off the computer at the power button to make it work. This doesn't happen for anything else, even when there are thousands of divisions for each country it just stops on 0:00 for a long time.

What nation is this with?

That is a very broad statement.

I doubt you have tried it with every single nation. :)
But your point is taken.

If this happens on the same date and it happens every time you load that save then it is reproducable, which would mean it is a bug and should be reported following the instructions in the sticky threads.

Tried it some more times:
1st: SMEP, Cuba. Using nofog. No crash. Played to November.
2nd: Vanilla, Germany. Crash on August 28th.
3rd: Vanilla, Soviet Union. No crash. Played to November.
4th: SMEP, Canada. Using nofog. Crash, Spetember 4th.

I'll try an autosave next to see if it is reproducible.

EDIT: No, it's not reproducible.

If it is not reproducible how do you keep reproducing it? :)

If you have a crash in that tight zone of dates, with any nation you chose, it could be an event that is causing problems.

Something tells me you may have one or more user mods installed or have edited files in some way?

It's not reproducible to a certain date, nor from a save file ;)

I'd have thought it was an event, but I thought events always happened at 0:00.

I recently reinstalled so that I have a clean version of HoI2 and the problem was tested there, so it's not that. The mod was on a separate installation and I tested both vanilla and a mod out of curiosity.

I'll see if I can play much further on any of the saved games.

I said "tight zone" of dates not certain date.

When you say not reproducible from a save, do you mean you can play past ALL those dates from a save you loaded that was made before those dates?

If so then that is very strange. It would mean saving the game at any point eliminates the crash. That does not really make sense. please explain further.

If you suspect that an event is causing the crash, and you have a save game that tends to trigger a crash within a fairly short period of time (after all, not all events are hardwired to a certain date. Most events are conditioned around certain situations to arise), there is a fairly simple test you could do.

Open up the events.txt in the events folder (after first making a backup copy, naturally). Place a # at the start of every line of text in that file, and save it. You now just disabled all events in the game, including any events that were used in save games. Now run the same sequences with your save game, and see if the crashes re-occur. If they are now truly gone, then most likely one of the events is causing your troubles. If the crashes still randomly happen, then something else (not event related) is amiss.
