I've been playing the game for a while now, but I still have not quite figured out the following:

1) What exactly do the military and administrative ratings of monarchs do apart from give an abysmally low boost to your research?

2) All of my monarchs have "army leader" stats as well. Yet not a single one turns up to command a force. What is the point of these?

1) nothing (but the boost is really useful early in the game when other income is low)

2) nothing

Some monarchs do also appear in the game as generals, but only the ones listed in leaders.txt, whereas for some reason every monarch in moanrch.txt shows leader stats. The stats are correct for such kings as actually fight, but otherwise they're just a waste of RAM.

That's right, them monarchs are useless, unless there is something special about their Diplomacy rating... ;)

That is, aside from their very important contribution to tech investment.

I find that quite small actually. Apart from stab in small countries. What's good about 9 ducats a month from Elisabeth if u have a huge England ? Though evidently 100 ducats a year isn't bad :D The diplo rating is the most important IMO.

In the beginning of the game, when there isn't much other income, monarch military rating is a good thingie.

Especially if you have a small one-province nation, then you quickly find out that this small bonus is really useful.

Hence I used big countries for example :D Obviously the smaller the more useful it is but in general it isn't that valuable esp compared to the diplo rating.

Yes, she is right, because military and admin bonuses are passive, you have them or you don't. But the diplo rating can shape a good portion of you game play as you will have to decide whether it's worth trying to vassilise with bad chance of success. It can also shape your entire foreign policy. For example if 25 ducats can give you a boost of about +50 you will probably use it. But if you need 100 ducats to get the same, well in that case risking a war is probably cheaper in those cases.
