Muslims pledging allegiance to Christian rulers?

So there I was, busy reconquering the Iberian peninsula. I took a whole chunk of land and was busy giving myself some duke titles and then I noticed 'King of Portugal'. As I was kicking muslim butt but only in eastern part of Iberian peninsula, I was mystified as country of Evora was listed as being owned by me.
So, I checked Evora and there it was. Sheik of Evora had somehow became part of my domain.

I don't recall getting any notice saying some muslim dude pledged allegiance to me.

If Evora was independent, the ruler died and the heir was a muslim courtier in your court, would he swear allegiance to you then? A possibility..

:D in my game I found out that one of the Bishoprics I had installed long ago as duke of Flanders now was a muslim controlled state (central France),

so as king of Leon I enraged and dow'd the muslim bishop (or how is he called) only to find out that I had dow'd my heir the duke of Flanders,

empire in crumbles off course,

I saw the same thing happening. Playing as king of Wales I went crusading on the iberian peninsula. After one succesfull campaign was ended with annexation of some provinces, I suddenly noticed, that a muslim ruler of two provinces had become my vassal. I was not at war with these provinces, and there was no message to tell me anything about the matter. Since then they have been very loyal vassals for app. 30 years.

Well as game mechanics go there dosent seem to be a mechanism to make Muslims not be good vassals. When you look at your vassal loyalty in thier screen and look at the modifiers (reputation, scutage) nothing is listed for religion. So the Muslim vassal has the same rules applied as your Christian vassal.

The question is should they become vassals? Well since this isnt a historical sim they probably should, and to prevent thier doom from never ending crusades they maybe should be inclined to offer alleigence to you, to survive if nothing else.

Seems like perfectly resonable behavior, if I am about to be overrun by a superior army I would certainly consider chucking honor out the window for survival and the chance to live another day. As it is now its easy to crusade and conquer vast territories, the muslim AI should have more options of survival and or coordination of defense.

Since it dosent then it seems to me that the AI offered alliegence rather cleverly to survive, admirable, maybe even cunning enough to entice you to marry one of his children, and maybe get his dynasty closer to your throne.

I agree with Odin1970 about a need for a penalty if the ruler isn't of realm religion. The penalty could perhaps be around even for Ortho-Catho cases.
