King of England in HYW, 1.02

Doesn't affect gameplay, but just nosing around while playing in the Hundred Years War scenario I noticed something.

The King of England is Edward Plantagenet. If you click on his father (also called Edward) you will see that HIS father is--strangely--alive and well, called Edward of Bar and is the Marshal in Norfolk.

can others confrim this?

I suppose I could send along my savegame file if necessary, although the offending out-of-order character is dead by now. His birthdate and family stats are all sufficiently scrambled still, though.

And although I said it doesn't affect gameplay, I suppose it could cause havoc with English succession in just the right (wrong?) circumstances.

That is, if it's re-creatable.

I found it too. It was present at the start of the scenario.

According to the family information in the game:

Edward, King of England (the historical Edward III) was born in 1312.

His late father (the historical Edward II) was born in 1284 (and died horribly in a manner unfit for discussion in these forums).

The father of his late father is indeed shown as Edward of Bar, alive and well at game start, but also shown as having been born in 1287!!! In other words, three years after the birth of his supposed son.

And yes, the initial line of succession at the start of the scenario goes from King Edward to his seven year old son (the historical Edward the Black Prince), then to his brother, then to his supposed grandfather, Edward of Bar.

The answer would surely be either to get rid of Edward of Bar altogether, or to sever the family ties.

(I wonder whether one of the programmers wanted to reproduce the suggestion that Edward II could not have been the father of Edward III, due to Edward II being inclined in quite another direction, but could not get the game to give one son two fathers? But if that was the case, the alternative father should have been Roger Mortimer, Earl of March, who was thoroughly dead by the start of this scenario anyway.)

The Edward of Bar character should be Edward I who was born in 1239 and died in 1307.

The problem goes deeper than that. Someone combined the Bars with Edward of England. Edward I count of Bar's daughter Eleanor married Raolf(Rudolf)the duke of Lorraine. Edward I Count of Bar married Marie of Burgundy who was Robert II duke of Burgundy's daughter. A few things would have to be changed. It shows Eleanor, Thomas and Edward as Edward's children. Need to make two Edwards and separate them. Either that or remove all the children and wives. Edward I of England married Eleanor of Castile (Provence) not Marguerite.

Hmmm, maybe they did not mean for Edward of Bar to be Edward I, 'cause none of his stuff is correct.

Maybe this should be moved to the mod forum and made the start of a 1337 scenario bugfix thread?

I'm all for it!

The HYW scenario, for England at least, is sadly wanting. With that unlimited time patch out I'm hoping to go at least as far as Henry VII's accession and the wars of the roses. If anyone wants to try fixing the HYW scenario count me in for researching England. I'd recommend as a great starting point the book THE AGE OF PLANTAGENET AND VALOIS by Thomas Fowler. The names need to be changed too.

Best regards,
Richmond
