Excomunnicating all of Europe

Damn i got to be the papal controller, never tried it before, but read about on the forum. My pope had 80 in prestige and i though i better put it to good use. Then i noticed that one count had -80 in piety, and when i excommunicatet him, the Pope got 80 more in prestige totalling 160.

Great! let me have a look around the map!

King of germany -400
King of France -1683

After excommunicating them my pope had 2200 in Piety and i could continue excommunicating everybody near me. It seems that the AI takes a heavy toll because of the crusaders as nobody is crusading at the moment (1152).

Am i just lucky (unlucky) or is this normal? all the muslims are ranking 2-7 after me on the highscore. Im playing 1.02 Normal agg normal diff.

I think that'd qualify as a bug. The Pope loses prestige for excommunicating pious people, but that doesn't mean he should gain piety for excommunicating the impious. In fact, even excommunicating someone at 0 piety should cost some prestige - it should only be free when piety gets significantly negative.

Once, I was so pi..ed off with the pope gaining thousands of bishopric just by inheritance, that I tried to see if I could excomunicate him... And it was possible, poor Gregorius excomunicated himself

I agree, it's a bug...

Also you can revoke excommunication and do it again for the same prestige gain. I think it should cost prestige to revoke as well.

Let's see:

Pope: "I think it'd be a great idea to excommunicate this guy over here, he has low piety and deserves eternal damnation."

Pope: "Oh wait....I changed my mind. Maybe he is not such a bad guy after all. Ok, you can come back."

Somehow I don't see the papacy changing it's mind without some sort of repurcussions in how the world views them (prestige).

WOW! the bug just got bigger

I felt pitty on the king of france when he was crusading, he now had -3218 in piety, so I excommunicatet. But just to test it I revoked the excomunication on him again right away, and VOILA! the pope got 3218 prestige and I was back again

So this is definetaly a bug as you could do it as many times as you want giving the pope 30000 prestige with a couple of clicks.

There should be some way to earn the Pope prestige, like pope controller crusading or the crusade going good, but not this way.

I posted this a couple weeks ago and got WAD. Seems silly to me, but hey, that's just me.

It is certainly a bug IMHO to have the Pope get Prestige for excommunicating himself (that's what Anti-Popes are for!), and the excommunicate - welcome back to the fold - re-excommunicate exploit should be fixed, too.

I can see giving maybe 1/10 the Negative Piety of the target in prestige, but 100% seems overopowered, and results in mass excommunications.

Not that I'm opposed to it. Worldwide excommunication is a worthy goal. However, it should only be possible with a prodigiously potent Pope, not these mediocrities, those whose puny temporal power does not justify such a grand scheme! Only the best should be able to excommunicate a whole world! The best, I tell you! The best!

Yes, I realised now it was first answered WAD.
But I hate loophole.
This is currently being discussed...
