succession of orthodox bishops

Happened to me twice : as prince of Belgrad, I appointed some greek orthodox bishops in a few of my newly conquered territories. After they die, the title was given to some Italian catholic bishops.

The problem cannot come from the religion of the provinces concerned, as the first one is pagan, and the other is orthodox.

Any clue ?

Something similar to me: orthodox bishoprics become papal provinces

If you are positive its a different issue, let me know.:)

Yep, I'm pretty sure the problem I stated is not related to the bishopric demesne given to the papal state issue. The 2 new italian catholic bishops are still vassals to me. I might add that I didn't change any laws that could have influenced the way the succession of bishops is handled.

Besides, I get no special improvement of my piety due to all of my bishops. Maybe it is normal or WAD, but I would have thought giving a part of your demesne to the church would increase your piety. The only factor that is currently increasing my piety is the donation to the church.

So this is just an hypothesis, and I might be totaly wrong on this one, but this gives the impression that the game considers the bishops I appointed as part of the catholic church, even thought they are orthodox. After all, some players have raised the issue of pagan or muslim bishops after a new pope rises, so why not some orthodox ones ?
:D

so to see if I understands this correctly.

You appoint an orthodox bishop, when he croaks, the pope promote a catholic bishop in the province?

That must be it. I only noticed that afterwards, and the pope has changed since then. I appointed those greek bishops, being courtiers in my court. After a while, I guess they died, and I found out the guys in place were italian catholic. They have no parents, so I guess they were "generic" courtiers from the former pope, but I've got no way to make sure of it.

OK, I have logged it, why is it different from the other one ?

Is it still happening in 1.02 ?

Actually, this has been fixed in 1.02 :D
If by the other one, you are referring to this thread, I would say it is related to another issue.
