Case of The Vanishing Army

Dont think something like this has been logged and might be releated to Teutonic Order bugs...
Had two armies crusading in Spain, One ( smaller but big enough to take care of itself) led by my kings for sieges, and another bigger army which happened to include ( and was thefore led by) forces belonging to the teutonic order to slaughter whatever moslem armies turned up to contest my triumph.
I was playing on very fast and concentrating on my kings army so didnt notice the exact point this occured but suddenly the army led by the tuetonic order grand master vanished, no it didnt die last time i looked at it it still had over 5000 men and Ididnt notice any large muslim armies around afterwards.
Since then ive never been able to load a save game file from this game which ran longer than 10 minutes although at the time the game didnt crash.
I checked provinces which where part of the teutonic led army, there where armies in the provinces, unmobilised and at around 25% strength which should have been about right if they had been demobilised.

If the GrandMaster is the equivilent of a king then i shouldnt be able to offer him vassalhood...or?

That's quite irrelevant to the bug this thread is about about the order armies.

I'm not quite certain how the orders work, but might they have simply sued for peace?

Has anyone experienced the same sort of problem since 1.02 ?

Are you able to reproduce it in anyway ?

I have experienced this few times today. One of my armies was just marching home, when "puff" they disappeared as if I disbanded them (they showed up in home province as mobilizable, except that there was only about 15% of the men I had when they were still marching...)
IIRC, it happened to me a few times during the withdrawal as well (and no, I didn't get "army annihilated popup", but I could understand that. Well, sort of, as I was 10 times the size of army that beat me, I just hapened to have a rather poorer morale.
Oh yes, I'm playing with 1.03b

yes, it happened to me in much the same way, on two occasions. Had two armies, won a battle, and *magic* the biggest one disappeared. In one occasion I had just saved, so I reloaded and it happened again. I noticed the unit was still there for a while, but it had stopped responding.

I tried editing the file, by moving it to another province, but it never helped. The army would stay there but it would not be responding. 1.03b, of course.

I might still have the file, it's helpful to anyone.

In fact, this bug was annoying me all yesterday, when I was trying to finish my campaign against Litva/Estonia and could not because my armies kept disappearing randomly... I reloaded about six times before I managed to get the armies home and disband them

I know this thread is kinda old but I thought I'd write this here instead of creating a new thread.

I am playing as the duke of Österreich and when the king of Germany died and a new child king of age of two ascended to the throne, he decided to wipe out the Golden Horde and called for all of his vassals to mobilize their troops. I accepted thinking that mayhaps he would be able to do at least something to the horde. So the game starts again and suddenly even before the armies have had time to leave my provinces, all of the armies of the king of Germany disappear. I look back at my provinces and realize that I can mobilize my troops again but they have all lost their troops. I check my manpower and it's gone down by 10k or so. A couple of days go by and the king of Germany calls for me to mobilize my troops again. I accept this time and watch as loads of armies with about 30 or 40 troops pop up all over Germany.

As a sidenote, he couldn't force my vassals to mobilize their troops, not sure if this is WAD but thought I'd mention.

I've seen this happen too, although not as drastically.

I'm playing a 1066 scenario under 1.04a, having risen to King of England from Duke of Norfolk. In the 1100's, I started attacking and occupying Muslim territories in Spain.

By the 1130's, I had enough wealthy provinces like Cordoba that I could fight subsequent wars against Muslims with troops from my Spanish provinces. However, in an extended war against the Emirate of Seville, I had several cases of regiments from Spanish provinces disbanding without warning. All of these regiments were from demense provinces in Spain. After they disbanded, I'd find them back in their home provinces at reduced (maybe half) strength, as if they'd been disbanded in a foreign province. (Which was generally where they were before the disappeared.)

It hasn't happened often enough to see any definite pattern. However, I've never ever seen regiments from English provinces disband in this way. I was beginning to wonder if it was some "feature" that made regiments from provinces with different Religion and/or Culture from your King disband w/o warning. Most of the Spanish regiments that disbanded where Arab/Muslim, but a couple of them were Catillian/Catholic.

The time before disbanding seemed variable, sometimes a regiment would disband after it been mobilized for well over a year, other times after just a few months.

I've had a couple of shorter wars against other Muslimssince than long one against the Emirate of Seville, but I haven't seen a return of the mysterious disbandments yet.

Now I've got a bit closer (as this bug was threatening to kill my campaign).
I have two saves where this is reasonably well replicable.
In the first save three of my armies fight a bunch of pagan ones. Most of the time (in this save), two of the armies rout and withdraw, and the third one manages to win the battle. After the battle the two routed armies disappear (entirely. They home regions will have just very small armies).

In the second save, one army vanishes at the end of the month - exactly. It is a part of a larger army (merged), and when I split/re-merge, the army stays where it was.

So, I'd say that there is a bug in the code that keeps the list of the armies, and sometimes (somehow) the armies get orphaned, and the EOM cleaner/after fight cleaner removes them. I believe it affects both player and AI.

If someone is interested in those two saves, please send me an email (thinking about it, I might now have only one, as one was autosave and I'm not sure whether I re-saved it as something else).

Vlad
