Loss of manpower with change of steward

Version 1.02.

I understand the connection between the manpower, you can raise in your demesne, and the stewardship rating of your realm. I also think it's quite logical and works fine.

But if your stewars dies or leaves, you loose the according manpower immedeatly. Even if it's only for a day, that the realm is without a steward, you may loose maybe half your army. And that doesn't strike me as logical.

Playing as the king of Wales (and controlling the Iberian Peninsula and most of the Middle East), I was preparing for the expected attack of the mongols. During 10 years af peace, the manpower-pools of my provinces where filled. Then my steward dies, I appoint a new one the next day with almost the same stats, but I still have to wait several years, before I get to the same level of manpower again.

Wouldn't it be possible to change this? For instance you could let the manpower decrease gradually (with the same rate as the normal increase), if the stewardship-rating went down below the level, where the present manpower could be supported. With such a change you would have a chance to react in due time without catastrophic results.

totaly agree with this one. gradual change, just use the negative growth towards the new level

It might be "WAD" but its very poorly designed ;)

It can takes years to get an army to full strength, and can be knocked down to 1/3 strength in a minute because of a change in your steward. ANTYHING that takes that long to do should have some built in safeguards ..wether it be a gradual reduction in strength or whatever.

As it is now its just ANOTHER frustrating aspect of CK sadly. Spent over an hour pretty much doing nothing but waiting for my army to grow recently, I did a few other things and saved .... only to discover my steward had left for another court and my army had been reduced to almost nothing in one day. Needless to say I quit the game and loaded something more fun ;)

An interesting and good idea. I don't see it as being something that is likely to make it into 1.03 but I think it's worth taking a look at in the future.

You actually do not lose the extra manpower until the end of the month. (When the manpower calculations happen.) If you appoint another Steward with equal or greater stat than the old one you keep the manpower. It will not show it until you get to first of month or you reload a savegame.

Unfortunately you are not always told if your Steward loses his position (like when he gets married) and you can lose half of your hard earned manpower. :(

The problem with the proposal seems to be the difficulty of fixing it in a way that keeps other features intact, especially the effect of diseases on manpower.

Because the manpower is checked at the end of the month there have been proposals in the beta forum about for instance giving an option to auto-assign a steward or make it possible to have a pop-up when an advisor leaves his post. Let's see if they are feasible.

The effect of diseases on manpower is already moot. If you can afford it, all you have to do is mobilize the regiment before the end of the month and you get to keep the full manpower. Granted, if you have several provinces that get diseased it could get expensive, but money is plentiful in this game. Just one more exploit...
