Lost conquered Papal provinces when Pope died
I did a search and couldn't find this, so here goes...
I declared war on a Papal State's vassal and the Pope came to his defense. After some fighting I conquered Rome and another Papal province as well as some of his vassal's provinces and had not yet made peace.
Then the Pope died.
I immediately lost control of the two Papal provinces although I was still in control of the conquered vassal provinces.
Is this how its supposed to happen? A ruler dies and his heir gets all the dead ruler's provinces back that had someone else’s flag on them?
As an aside, a bit later I noticed that a dead Pope is ruling in Rome and his death date is around the time of our war. So, I was either fighting an undead Pope at the start of the war (shouldn't I get extra piety?
), or the Pope that died during our war became undead.
I know the Pope problem has been brought up before, but I thought I would mention it in case my loss of the provinces was somehow related to the problem of dead Popes hanging around.
