Client randomly crashes in multiplayer

My and a buddy have been having this problem since 1.1. Whoever joins the game will crash between 5-40 minutes. We were never able to find a certain cause or reason why the crashes happened. For the longest time I though my machine was the problem but then I hosted and he started crashing.

MultiPlayer or tech support subforum?

*flips coin*

MP it shall be then.

@moderators there: feel free to send this back if it's a bug after all. I don't enough of MP to make the decision.

imo

this should have been kept in the bug forum.
Its most likely not because o the connection it crashes.
Unless the isp's involved switch ip's in the middle of the game.

There's always network congestion, my experience from 10h of MP says low bandwidth clients crash more often.

I have the same problem as well. My friend and I play the game on 2 computers side by side via a LAN, and the game crashes anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes after startup, unfortunately most often around the 5-10 minute area. Almost all the crashes are on the computer of the person NOT hosting; for example, if we both have the same save game and I host, my friend will be the one that crashes - if he hosts, I will crash (both after a few minutes).

Welcome to the bug forum

To help us with CTD game, we need to know as much as possible from the conditions of the CTD.

There are known CTD bugs (pressing F2 for example), so please, search this forum to see if any apply to your conditions.

Also, I was part of the team at the Lille CON earlier this year, and we play all night with almost no CTD, on CK 1.02 , so I know personnally that long LAN games are possible.

The more informations you give us, the more it will help Paradox find the bug.

Thanks,

Cat

What happens in the crashes specifically is the person booted goes immediately to the desktop, without warning - so far, I have not noticed any particular similarities between crashes; some have happened while we're both at peace, others while we're at war, different dates, different countries.

All the games we've played so far have been in the 1066 scenario. We have played several different countries in a few different games so far (Vladimir and Novgorod one game, Englind and York the next, and Aragon/Spanish Galacia come to mind immediately). In all the games we've crashed repeatedly, so I don't think the country we're playing is the problem. We are both updated to version 1.02 (haven't tried playing multiplayer in a version earlier than that).

As far as computer specs go, we're using a 10/100 network on a linksys hub. My computer has a 2.7 GHz Athlon processor, nVidia video card with 128 MB video ram, 1064 MB ddr ram; my friend's system is similar, but using an ATI video card, 2.4 GHz Athlon processor, and 512 MB ram.

As a side note, in single player the game runs like a champ, I've seen only one or two crashes in all the games I've played single player. This problem occurs in network play only.

We were playing 1066 as norrland and ostergotland, a couple of irish dukes and a couple of spanish kings. So I don't think its the country either.

For all you other people having this problem is everyone crashing or just the people who connect to the game? When we try whoever hosts the game doesn't have any problems.

Whoever hosts the game is fine, the person who joins the game is the one that crashes. It's so bad that my friend and I switch off hosting after a few hours so we can trade off restarting the game.

Btw, how much feedback would this need to be "upgraded" to a bug? Because the darn thing oh so true, altough supiciously I haven't had the problem in the LAN games. OTOH all except one Internet session has seen the client crashing...

Actually my network connection is 10Mbps (duplex) and I have a low ping but the bug still is there. It looks like the game is directplay7 I quess. If the game used directplay8 then there would be a lot less difficulties playing MP on the net. Correct me if I am wrong...

It happens to me and my girlfriend too, on the Third Crusade scenario. It's never the host computer that crashes. We're both playing via the internet rather than a LAN, both have the same processor - an Athon 1700+, same video card -- Nvidia 5200, same OS -- WinXP. It's odd and a bit annoying, though it does stop us from playing all night without realizing it. It usually hits us about 1.5 hours into a game though.
