Hey Bipin,

I prefer to use UVW unwrapping, it’s much more versatile especially with more complex models.

This video covers the basics of UVW unwrapping pretty well:

Once you get to the point where you are ready to export, just be sure to not use uppercase in the name of the *.fbx or the textures. Also be sure to name the textures the same as the *.fbx.

And don’t forget to use:

name_d.png for the diffuse map
name_s.png for the specular map
name_n.png for the normal map

Good memory Ayce, your spot on mate, the *.fbm does store all the texture data and whatever else comes over with the *.fbx

cheers
Hello, i an unwraping my model, but the unwrap is resizing the textures, does that video explains how to get around that? Thanks.

Hey Girafe,
you can get great results with trees and flora if you work with alpha textures... It's the only way to go, but it will take some time to learn.

See pictures below which show early versions of my attempts to create flora. I have improved significantly since these screenshots, especially on the conifers.. it is all about great textures and alpha textures.

By the way: the second picture has a zoom factor you cannot reach in the standard game (at least not without mods). At normal closest zoom the models look much better.

it s a good job Alex. I tried to export medium poly plants from Onyx. For bushes it s ok but for trees it s too heavy. I think you are right, with good alphas, result should be fine. And what you achieved is already nice.

Regarding myself, I am not sure I like this C:S style of 3D. It s more texturing than modeling.

Had the same feeling initially :)
But after a while it becomes just as challenging and fun as it was with modelling for sc4.

Good moddels and esp. textures are needed. There are heaps of poor quality models on the workshop. I think we need a BSC label for quality here too ;)

I've done everything as described, but the model still does not appear when I select the fbx file in the import window, and the "continue" button remains greyed out. I've tried different fbx export settings to no avail.

At this point it taking more effort than it's worth. maybe there's something wrong with the model. Can multiple sets of triangles re-use the same uvs?
