I just downloaded the 4 GB patch for Darkest Hour.

It is supposed to make games, more stable, less CTD's...as it allows the game to 'see' and use 4 GB of RAM instead of 2...

Could this also be true for AoD ?

Could this patch (or a modified version of it) be used also for AoD ?

I do not know about this specific patch, but there are several different programs online, which can set an LAA flag.

1.10 has the flag enabled by default and needs not be treated by such programs.

It is hard to tell in this medium, but I take this as meant sarcastically. That written I like humour. You have totally brought this upon you yourself.

Very well. Prepare your anus for exposition (or stop reading here, the foreshadowing should be heavy enough by now):
  • AoD (and Darkest Hour too, if I am not mistaken) is a 32-bit program. Unlike your anus, it can only handle pointers with a circumference of 32 bits.
  • Pointers may have to move inside the program or your anus to find that sweet P-spot for proper pounding.
  • The difference between two pointers may be negative. This happens when the first pointer is smaller than the second one, inverse to the feeling in your anus, where it is the other way around.
  • Therefore pointers are generally assumed to be only 31 bit wide, smaller than could be imagined. Very much like the equipment of men you meet online.
  • A 32-bit program being "large address aware" claims to be ready to take and ride the full 32 bits, all the way down.
  • If it is not actually ready, it may hurt itself. Much like in your anus, such wounds may not be apparent right away, but when you do notice them, they do really smart, and for quite a while too.
  • Now, AoD itself is quite stretchy, but because programs - like your anus - are seldomly satisfied, it also loads up on libraries. Those are essentially anal eggs: at first they go in, and when you finish, they come back out.
  • Libraries are programs themselves. This is where this allegory gets a bit sick.
  • But luckily I just finished this exposition (in your anus), so you now know all about "large address awareness" and that warm, saucy feeling ought to make sure that you will not forget for a while.
... My, this was positively awful. Alas, I have never been much of a writer.

You should be able to use this program wich enables the higher mem allocation for windows users:
http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php
That tool was also first used from users for EU3 back then and later for HoI3 etc..

While in more recent dev tools, you can enable that feature(LAA flag) as default while creating the exe.
(unofficial patch fpr HoI3 -"podcats LAA exe"-)
So if I understood Zsar1 right, with upcoming patch 1.10, such manual work will not be needed anymore. :)
